LAKE SUNAPEE RETREAT

Sunapee Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 3 baths, sleeps 6 with great room for extra sleeping

New Hampshire Chalet on Lake Sunapee, 5 minutes from Mt. Sunapee, with shared, private dock and beach access. A fully furnished and linen-ed retreat with a wrap-around deck and grill overlooking our brook. Open living area with separate game room, featuring a ping pong table, darts, and full entertainment center with cable TV. Master suite with 4-poster queen bed and full private bath. Our guest room has a queen bed, and the child's room has two twin beds. Kitchen is fully equipped, share our spices. Bring your ipod and enjoy our ihome setup, bring your life jackets and enjoy our double kayaks and bring your hiking shoes and enjoy our local trailheads and hikes. Our shared beach is a street walk away. Our retreat sits in the trees with a running brook and in the Fall boasts the colorful foliage NH has to offer. A 5 minute drive to Mt. Sunapee for days of great skiing and snow shoeing. The best family Mt. in New England with 32 trails and a great terrane park.

Deeded beach walking distance away: Our home comes with a dock and a deeded beach within walking distance but not visible from the house. Our two Kayaks are kept on the beach for renters use. Sunapee State Beach is just up the road, off the Mount Sunapee traffic circle. The latter, the only public beach on Lake Sunapee, features wide beaches, a refreshment stand, changing and rest rooms, boat rentals, and a public boat launch. There is ample parking and a lifeguard is on duty.

Hikes: 'The Fells' is our neighbor. Beautiful gardens, hikes and trails. Across the street is a trail head for a day hike. The John Hay National Wildlife Refuge is another jewel in Newbury's crown. Spread along three miles of frontage on the Western shore of Lake Sunapee, the property is famous for its superb gardens, woodland hiking trails and beautiful vistas from the old homestead.

Originally settled in the mid-1700's, Newbury was incorporated in 1778. The growth of the town has been closely linked to Lake Sunapee and the imposing Mount Sunapee range. In the 1830's, the town meeting house was built in Newbury Harbor. It was joined over time by other public buildings, still here today. South Newbury has several historic buildings, including a 19th century town hall, a church dating back to 1831, Sherman Hall, home of the Newbury Historical Society, and the Sunapee Lake Grange, more than 100 years old.

Activities: 'The Mountain Edge Resort' Is down the street with great spa services. Our public activities park with tennis and basketball courts is a five minute drive. Public Golf is a ten minute drive. The Sunapee Ski resort is 5 miles away.

A COZY AND NATURAL SETTING- LOVELY!

  • 4 of 5
Birchbrook became our home away from home for 4 nights this past September when my family, including a 9 month old baby, came to NH for a local wedding. There was plenty of room for the 7 of us. More could probably fit comfortably.
We loved the house, the scenery, the pier, the beach and only wished we had more time to enjoy it. The enormous deck has seating all around to enjoy the flora and fauna, including a babbling brook right out back. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying sights & sounds of Fall in New England. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, and a large dining room table with skylights above. The home was clean, well organized, quite comfortable and close to town amenities. We would come back in a heartbeat!

LOVELY SPOT BUT BEWARE OF MOLD

  • 1 of 5
While the house is lovely and the porch over the river is a great spot there was a terrible moldy smell. At first it was confined to the downstairs bedroom closet and was not a problem as long as we never opened that door. As soon as it rained the moldy smell began to permeate through the entire house. By the end of the week the smell was so overpowering we had to leave the house and sacrifice almost all of our second week. If you are in any way sensitive to mold I would not recommend this house.

THOROUGHLY ENJOYED OURSELVES!

  • 5 of 5
Excellent home in the Lake Sunapee Region. Very clean & Mary was great to deal with. Loved the spacious home & ping pong table. Everything we needed was right there in the house. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook in. Loved falling asleep to the babbling brook.

GREAT SPOT

  • 5 of 5
I rented the house for a golfing trip to the Country Club of NH (15 min. drive away, nice course) and it was great. The location is perfect, about a 5 min. drive to the lake but feels secluded also. The back deck is excellent for barbecuing and the sideyard for horseshoes or washer toss. The house was set up with a personal touch when we arrived and very clean. Each room was very comfortable and relaxing, and the basement game room was a bonus. Mary was a pleasure to deal with the whole time and the weekend was great.
