The apartment was perfect. The reviews are all true. I was looking initially in the Marais and has slightly worried about the location but it was great. The transport was easy, we used the 21 and 27 bus which pass along Claude Bernard mostly, but also used the underground. The buses in particular were easy to take the stroller on. As we had a restless toddler we didn't eat out, the closest pizza shop across the road towards luxembourg gardens did really good takeaway. We shopped for food in rue mouffetard mainly and just heated it up at home and made salads. The bread and the goats cheeses were a revelation. For us the little parks in the area with play equipment were great, as well as of course jardin des plantes and luxembourg gardens.
The apartment was very clean and easy to live in, it was obvious it was not just a rental but someone's home, it was set out in a way that was elegant and comfortable, with an understated taste. I really liked the plain quality of the cotton textiles, and the way the apartment was decorated in a way that was respectful to the building. The owner and her daughter very helpful and easy to deal with. The information in the apartment about the area was well considered.
The tourist highlights for us were Rodin and Balzac's houses and the de Chirico and Calder exhibitions. In the decorative arts museum, Jeanne Lanvin's bathroom was amazing, so excessive. Our son loved the carousel and pony cart ride at the Tuileries gardens and the big rocks at Jardin des plantes.
