Enjoy a retreat to nature in our privately owned and managed converted and furnished 2-Bedroom Barn. Nestled on 52 Acres of pristine land, the barn provides spectacular Mountain Views from nearly every window. Private Decks make for excellent wildlife and Bird Watching. The barn Sleeps Six in two bedrooms (2 queen beds; 2 single beds), two full bathrooms and fitted kitchen. Kids and adults alike will enjoy the gas BBQ, TV, DVD player and phone.

Located in southernmost Blue Grass Valley, the farm has frontage on East Back Creek. A spring-fed pond offers fishing opportunities for Rainbow Trout. Freedom Hill Farm is within easy driving distance of the areas’ attractions – you will enjoy visiting the George Washington and Monongahela National Forests, Lake Moomaw / Gathright Wildlife Management Area, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park, Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort, Homestead Resort & Spa, and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory.

Thank you for considering a stay at Freedom Hill Farm on Lantz Mountain in Mill Gap, Va - my name is Tom Duncan and I will be your host.

About 5 years ago, I was traveling through Bath County and decided to make a detour to see what Monterey & Highland County was all about. To say I was overwhelmed with the natural beauty of the mountains and pastures would be quite accurate. I immediately launched a search to locate a site for my new home and was lucky enough to locate raw land that extended from the valley bottom to the top of the mountain. During my final visit, prior to signing the closing documents I walked the land asking myself if I really wanted to take on this task. Somehow, the pair of American Eagles flying over my head seemed to speed up my affirmative decision.

I had always wanted a place with a nice view, and, well, now I have a better than magnificent view from Lantz Mountain across the southern Blue Grass valley to Back Creek mountain. Every window in my rental unit shares a portion of this view of Paradise and it awaits every visitor. I enjoy my wildlife and birds every day and want you to do the same. I set no agendas for my guests except to try and have you kick back and relax.

Getting to Freedom Hill Farm will be the easy part of your journey, trying to leave to return home might prove to be a

little more difficult.

We spent a wonderful, restful long weekend at this beautiful location. The accommodations are clean and spacious with an extra separate bedroom with bath downstairs with its own entrance. The owner, Tom, is attentive to the needs of his guests and interesting to get to know. If you want a really nice place with privacy, serenity and beauty conveniently located in gorgeous Highland County, this place is for you!

Peaceful Place

This is one beautiful place! After traveling from Texas and staying in the usual noisy hotels with uncomfortable beds, this place was just perfect. Tom had the fire going in the wood burning stove and you felt like you were just coming home! The beds were comfortable, the place was super clean, and it was nice and cozy. It was perfect. It's very quiet and the scenery cannot be beat. If you like to hike, watch the birds, and just hang out, this is the place. The pictures don't do it justice. We were all very comfortable and enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you Tom for making us feel so welcome and for sharing your beautiful place with us.

Tom also has a friendly orange cat that we liked very much. We thought the cat was seriously considering a road trip to Texas.

Awesome fall retreat

Came down for the weekend with my best friend and sister for a weekend get away, and we all had a wonderful time. The view was breath taking, the cabin was clean and spacious. It had everything we needed, a fully equipped kitchen, wifi, an awesome view.

Tom was super friendly and told us were all the local spots were and the things to do in the area.

It was an awesome deal, and would totally recommend it to friends and family.
Owner's Response: Whenever I host a group of women,nothing is more important than to welcome them and make sure that they feel safe and secure at Freedom Hill Farm.I show them through the entire living areas and encourage them to use my phone to let their famalies know they arrived safely and how they can be contacted if the need arises.
These ladies were treated to an amazing panorama of Fall Foliage ! A nice,nice group !

The drive just to get to Tom's Cabin is spectacular; like seeing hundreds of great works of art all around you. Tom is friendly, with great suggestions on things to do in the surrounding area, while also allowing you the freedom to be alone and just enjoy the gorgeous space. It's a great place to getaway and enjoy the views, do some hiking, or some sightseeing.

Lovely Quiet Vacation-Just What We wanted

We had a great stay at Tom's rustic cabin! There was so much room and so many beds, we could nap on a different bed or couch each day. The view is lovely, peaceful, and a wonderful place to watch animals come over the hills or the clouds shadow play. If we end up in the area again, we'd definitely stay at Tom's again!
