Just north of San Francisco, historic Petaluma Roost Vacation Rental is a remodeled coop ideally located in Wine Country. Petaluma, known for its antique shops, river kayaking and good restaurants is only 30 minutes from Pt. Reyes National Seashore Park where there are dramatic beaches, biking and hiking trails. Additional spectacular views are at Dillion Beach, 20 minutes away, or Doran Beach in Bodega Bay where Hitchcock's movie 'The Birds' was filmed. Scenic Sonoma County continues to be the backdrop for movies and offers some of the best wine in the world! Drive the backroads through Oaks and Redwoods (wine maps provided), and discover superbly designed wineries in magical vineyard settings.
The Roost is in the country, but not far from old downtown Petaluma. Relax and view wildflowers from the roost deck or from your private patio, watch the fog roll in over a stunning sunset. Enjoy the fire from the wood burning stove in the cozy but spacious coop.
The interior has color-washed and venetian-plastered walls hung with original art work and plush wool rugs on a designer stained floor, where lots of windows, plus french doors create a light airy space.
An adjoining sunroom with a tropical theme has a two person soaking tub and a small table with chairs. A misting fountain rotates soft colors to make this room very romantic.
Our guest house also has a washer/dryer, small refrigerator, micro-wave oven, espresso coffee machine, large bathroom with shower and a TV with DVD/video player which you can watch from the tub or sofas. Many books and games are provided for your pleasure.
Swedish massage is available on Petaluma Roost premises.
Our rates are the same all year around. We do have lower weekly rates.

Erv and Judie Peterson are your hosts for the Petaluma Roost Vacation Rental. In 2001, we remodeled one of the old chicken coops on the farm that once had 80,000 leghorn chickens. The 1830 chicken house where Erv collected eggs as a boy is now the 'Coop', a spacious, comfortable abode with color-washed and venetian plastered walls and beautifully stained concrete floors with lavish rugs which any chicken would approve. Erv, a native of Petaluma, teaches evironmental studies at Sonoma State University nearby and Judie retired from graphic art, then the spa at Sonoma Mission Inn, then nursing and faux painting, still paints in watercolor, oil and acrylic, mostly dogs. We are a foster home for Italian Greyhounds, taking one foster at a time in addition to our two Iggys. Living on the property are also 3 cats and 4 chickens. Many birds, including a family of barn owls make their home here as well.
The Owner purchased this chateau / country house in 2001
We decided to share our place with guests feeling the Roost to be centrally located for exploring wine country, a zip to San Francisco or the many great beaches and parks nearby, including Pt Reyes National Seashore Park.
We have tried to create a place of quiet serenity even though we are only 5-10 minutes from the town of Petaluma. The many birds that have chosen to nest here seem to agree. On our property we've seen deer, one fox, a ring-tail, many, many gophers and some raccoons.
