Just last month, a group of us (my family; my wife and our 9 year old daughter, and two other couples with kids) decided to take a trip down south and vacation in the beaches of Nicaragua. During our search for hotels and resorts, we came across this wonderful home located just a few hours from Managua. Las Penitas is nothing short of a dream home overlooking the Pacific Ocean with all the luxury and amenities of a 5 star resort, only better.
The drive is about 1 1/2 hour out of Managua. As you come up to the gates of the compound and you start to drive in, you see this beautiful house with a giant lighthouse and behind it, nothing but Blue Ocean as far as the eye can see.. It’s absolutely spectacular! This house and the scenery is something out of a Hemingway novel only in the 21st century.
From the pictures you can see that the house has a main living area w/pool which is great for having piña coladas and taking in the view of the ocean, and the kids really loved it. The beach itself is lined by a bed of rocks where in some places are so big; you can stand underneath them and enjoy the waterfalls that are formed by them.
Not to mention swimming in the natural pools, some as deep as 10ft. also formed at high tide. It’s really something to experience. I assure you, nothing like this in Massachusetts, Cape Cod, where I’m from. That’s for sure.
The second floor has 3 bedrooms (4th room in the first floor) and an alcove type viewing area with a bay window, great view of the ocean while you relax in the hammock, read a book, by the way, its not uncommon to see whales swimming by, one thing’s for sure, the sunset is something truly magical. You go up this rounded staircase up to the third floor or lighthouse where the view is absolutely breathtaking.
Our tour guide who was there most of the time, assisted us in communicating what we wanted for breakfast, lunch, dinner, you bring it they make it; it’s that simple…and yes, great drinks (bloody marys, piña coladas, cerveza Toña), and everything from towels, to bedding to even setting up our iPods with the house sound system was fairly easy to do.
If you’re looking for something different and a bit more private in a beach setting with a flare for adventure but w/ all the comforts of a 5star resort, this is it.
