This must be Maine at its best

  • 5 of 5

On this rainy, Seattle evening, we are still thinking about our sunny, cozy harbor house in Camden, which gave us a beautiful view of the harbor, the shops across, and the waterfall (which we could even hear). The beds were the best of our whole New England trip, for comfort and the sheer luxury of the crisp, clean, white bedding. Bellore is totally unique--you feel like you're invited to live a piece of Camden's history--wide plank wood floors, big fireplace, a quaint staircase to the two queen bedrooms and bath upstairs. The other side of the coin is a modern, fully equipped kitchen with big windows all across the harbor side of the house, including easy access onto the deck and down to the waterfront for warm nights. Ben is the most gracious of hosts (and the best helicopter pilot!): the cabins are well stocked for coffee, tea or wine lovers. We only wish we lived closer so we could go back to this incomparably picturesque spot more often!

Bellore - A Delightful Stay in a Delightful Setting

  • 5 of 5

If your looking for a New England VRBO that's tastefully furnished and wonderfully appointed in a traditional waterfront setting, this is the place!! Bellore is a charming, wonderfully cozy, convenient and nicely furnished abode that's so perfectly situated on Camden's inner harbor. This is a gem of a place that's romantic in character inside and outside. Lovely deck and yard with a direct view to Camden's waterfront skyline - perfect setting within easy walking distance to downtown. Ben is a really a caring and responsible host. Everything was perfectly clean and nicely stocked for convenience. Bellore is a truly pleasant and memorable place. We can't wait to return for another getaway. My wife and I loved our stay here!

Roscoe's Maine Vacation

  • 5 of 5

The Ship Captain's Cottage (Bellore House) is a wonderful house to stay in Camden, Maine. Ben, the owner is very accommodating without being intrusive. The house is clean and obviously well taken care of. There are great views of Camden Harbor. The house is on a quiet street that is a short and picturesque walk from the downtown village of Camden. The village has a variety of unique stores to visit as well as restaurants with a variety of cuisines, some of which offer truly outstanding meals.

This was the second time we have been to Bellore and are looking forward to our next visit to Maine and will try to stay here again. It is also a great place from which to explore up and down the scenic Maine seacoast as well as going on local hikes that lead up to great vista points.

The house has beautiful wood floors and wood paneled walls. It is very comfortable and updated but honors the rustic ambiance that one expects in Maine.

Early May Was Beautiful

  • 5 of 5

Bellore has the comfort of home. In addition it is spotlessly clean, thoughtfully supplied and furnished (some of which can be absent in my home). The beds are definitely some of the best I've slept in on my travels. Bellore is wonderfully situated to the downtown and shops of Camden. A mere 5-10 minute walk brings you there including to the excellent local cuisine. It's a walk around the head of the harbor, so is a sight to behold. Bellore is right on the harbor (as the picture shows) and the deck is a wonderful place to sit in the afternoon sun and sip your favorite beverage. This is a special location and the feeling is what travelrs seek when wanting to relax. The owner is very considerate and responsive. I hope to return with Bellore in mind, even though it has been at least 20 years since I was last in Maine.

Wonderful location, well-maintained property

  • 4 of 5

We arrived to find a spotless house in an amazing location. As pictured and described in the listing, this house is located right on the quiet side of Camden Harbor; as you look out the back door, you can see downtown Camden and the active waterfront. The waterfront for this property is private with a lawn that leads right down to the water and to a private dock. The walk to town is surprisingly short and we were able to leave our car parked in the drive on the days we were exploring town.

This home is conveniently located near Route 1 and other minor highways which will take you to the area's attractions, including Mount Battie in Camden Hills State Park, Megunticook Lake, and other coastal towns. Camden has enough to offer that you wouldn't necessarily need to go elsewhere, however: there are restaurants for all tastes and a small grocery in walking distance that has nearly everything!! There are galleries and shops and sightseeing ventures right in town. It's a great little New England town.

There is a beautiful breeze that blows through the home when doors and windows are open. One minor negative is that the door to the deck does not have a screen, so, if left open, you may have some unwanted insects. We are from Massachusetts and there seemed to be fewer insects in Maine, so we weren't particularly bothered by this.

The home is kept in amazing condition and is very well-appointed with everything you need and even things you didn't realize you needed! We used the laundry even though we did not expect to and found the basement in such a clean state. There were fans and air conditioners for a hot day but honestly, the windows and doors provided us adequate relief in the 70F to 85F temperatures.

The owner contacted us a few days before our travel and provided all of the information we required. He had us inform him when we arrive and even checked in with us mid-week to make sure all was well and to see if we needed anything.

This is definitely a home we would consider returning to in the future.

Return trip to Bellore House

  • 5 of 5

We have been looking forward to our second trip to Camden and Bellore house since we left last August. The house is as comfortable and clean as our previous trip. The owner attends to every detail to insure the renters needs are met and exceeded. So many things to do within walking distance and even more to explore by car. The town of Camden is quaint, picturesque and peaceful. Thank you Ben for sharing your wonderful home and perfect vacation rental location with us again this year.

Owner's Response: Having our wonderful guests return is happy for all of us who make Bellore House the special place it is because even though there will always be room for improvement, it means we are succeeding at creating our vision of a quiet peaceful and beautiful little haven safe from a busy world. Thank you! Ben
