Very quiet...Very beautiful...Serene...Peaceful - just what we needed to get away from daily "life"!
Your cabin is lovely, thank you so much for the opportunity to enjoy it for a couple of days! The heavens declare the glory of God - the skies the work of his Hands!
The cabin looks just as advertised. We enjoyed the privacy, the peace and tranquility that came along with this gem that sits secluded in the hills. I would highly recommend this property to my friends and family.
The cabin was so beautiful and very big! We were pleasently surprised by how nice the cabin and amenities were. It was very secluded up on top of the mountain and the view was awesome! Also liked how close you were to the town in order to get groceries and what not! We will certainly be staying here again next time we visit the area.
A couple of years ago we passed through this area of southwest Virginia as we traveled up 77 to 81 heading to New England from the Atlanta area. It is beautiful and we vowed to come back and explore. We selected "Reach the Heavens in Virginia" as we planned a last minute getaway for my husband's birthday. The owner was very patient and efficient in communicating with us as we navigated the online payment and contract procedures.
The cabin pictures and location described on the website are accurate. When you walk in the front door you can tell immediately the owners take pride in their cabin. The cabin is well maintained, clean, comfortable beds, and having a full washer/dryer on the main floor is a plus. We cooked our meals in each night and found the kitchen to be quite sufficient with plenty of pots, pans, flatware, glasses, and sharp knives. There is plenty of storage for items in the built in pantry!
While here is plenty of privacy and a feeling of being away from it all, you are only 10 minutes away from the Food City grocery in the town of Independence. We discovered Rixey's Store on one of our drives. They were very friendly and eager to share local history and secrets of getting around on the back roads. Also, the caretaker for the cabin is available if needed. Our second morning, as we were headed out for the day, the key became stuck in the front door lock. Something that can happen no matter where you are, but we fiddled and fiddled and had no luck removing the key. We called Chad, the caretaker, who came right over, was able to remove the key, oil and tighten the lock, and all was good.
In our short visit of 3 days, we explored north on Hwy 21 up to Wythefille and also on highways #52, #16, #58 as well as several interconnecting back roads. Lovely country. We would welcome a return visit to Reach the Heavens in Virginia!
My husband Roger and I planned a week vacation for my husband family reunion in Mouth of Wilson, and it was great spending & meeting all the family during the day, but having the perfect getaway at night. We decided to stay an extra week and were able to go sightseeing, even though some of the days were chilly but still nice. Went to Mount Rogers but part of the park was closed because of the weather, can't wait to come back again to enjoy all the trails.
Chad is great in keeping the property in top shape, and the owners very accommodating in all our needs.
Definitely will come back again soon!
Let me start by saying the house is beautiful. The two star rating doesn't reflect the house itself but annoyances we encountered during our stay and above all the nasty response from the owners when we informed them about these incidents.
First, we couldn't use the jaccuzzi in the main bathroom. Not enough hot water to fill it up, while we had not been home the whole day. We tried the following day, same result, not enough hot water. Pretty disappointing as it was supposed to be part of our romantic getaway and one of the reasons why we selected this property.
Second, the hair dryer didn't work. We checked if there was another one in the second bathroom but there wasn't. With long hair, this was rather unpleasant to remain with wet hair in the middle of winter and having to run to town to buy a hair dryer.
Since we only stayed there for four days and during the holidays, we brought these unfortunate incidents to the owner's attention upon our departure, and kindly requested if they would consider a small compensation for the annoyances we experienced. To our surprise, they replied that we were the first ones making an issue about anything in the cabin in a tone that was both sarcastic and offensive. As if we had planned for the jacuzzi not to work...
So as long as everything works well, you'll enjoy the house. However if by any chance you run into something that does not work properly, do not expect any level of service from the owners.
Last comment, the location. In Homeaway it says it's in Mouth of Wilson while it's in Independence, which is about 30 minutes away. Not a big deal unless you choose the house in order to be close to Mt Rogers or the Grayson Highlands State park for hiking or biking. It will take you about one hour to get to the park. So be aware.
What a pleasant surprise on our first trip to Virginia. We came from Florida and our relatives from NJ met us at the cabin for a delightful visit. Getting out of the heat of Florida was so refreshing. Each morning with coffee and evening with a glass of wine, we sat in the rocking chairs on the porch and enjoyed the cool, crisp mountain air! The cabin was both decorated beautifully and so very comfortable. The fireplace was romantic and we built a fire outside and sat around the campfire telling stories. Most nights we cooked and I have to say the kitchen had all the comforts of home. The Courthouse in town was a wonderful resource of information on what to do and where to go. We enjoyed a couple wineries, went in search for apples and found Foggy Ridge for Hard Cider where we had lunch of pizza made in a pizza oven in the back of a truck, (it was very good!). We hiked in Grayson Highland State Park where we saw the wild ponies. We enjoyed a local Pumpkin Festival with bluegrass music, shopped in Galax for local crafts and art. We drove a short distance on the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway and visited Mabry Mill. But most of all we just had a great time! Thank you for sharing your cabin with us, it truly was a "Perfect Vacation!"
Our cabin is situated in the Blue Ridge Highlands of southwest Virginia, right on Grayson County, just 17 miles from Mouth of Wilson. You can experience 'America’s Favorite Ride' on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just 21 miles, & Boone, NC is 59 miles from us. For those a bit more daring, you are minutes away from Jefferson Nat’l Forest, with its many trails (400 miles), waterfalls & stunning views. There you can find Mt. Rogers, the highest peak in Virginia. The New River is just 8 miles away for all kinds of activities. The small city of Galax & Independence brings to you restaurants and many recreational activities.
