The Serenity Stone Cottage is tucked into 5 private acres of meadow, pond and forest in the historic town of HEATH in western Massachusetts. Close to the lovely village of Shelburne Falls & just 5m to Vermont! In the Berkshire Mts, just off the scenic Mohawk Trail. Many fabulous destinations (museums, artisan crafts, bistros, rafting, skiing, concerts and festivals) less than 1 hr away. The original Serenity Prayer was written by renowned theologian Reinhold Niebuhr in this 1930's cottage! Explore the rich social/spiritual history or simply enjoy a peaceful retreat. European design w/balcony porches, courtyard garden, hidden stone stairway. Spacious interior (on 3 levels) thoughtfully renovated to reflect original charm. Antique & vintage decor/loft over living rm./cozy library/skylights throughout/fireplace/hardwood floors/original artwork & a few touches of luxury. Everything is new or freshly re-decorated & sparkling clean. Ideal for 4-6 pp.

How many Guests?: The Serenity Stone Cottage is ideal for 4- 6 guests. NOTE: Rates apply to a maximum of 5 guests; additional guests (i.e., more than 5 pp) subject to owner approval plus a nightly surcharge. Maximum of 7 guests allowed. This is a spacious cottage with many options for privacy.

The Master Bedroom Suite (w/ private full bath) is secluded from the rest of the cottage; it includes a small private porch, and a library/sitting area that offers a quiet retreat where you might read or write after the other guests are asleep.

An open Loft creates a third level above the main living room; light and peaceful, a heavenly place to nap.

The entire lower level of the cottage is an informal MOVIE and GAME ROOM - send the kids down to play while you sit on the south balcony porch and just listen to the birds (or watch the falling snow).

The SERENITY STONE COTTAGE is located in the historic town of Heath (pop. 805), in western Massachusetts. Heath is 3 miles off Route 2, also known as the Mohawk Trail, a gorgeous drive through the Berkshire Mountains. Interstate 91 connects to Route 2 in Greenfield, MA. The Mohawk Trail boasts a national forest, antique shoppes, sugar houses, Native American crafts, the famous 'Hairpin Turn', and ends in North Adams, home of Mass MoCA (Museum of Contemporary Art). Heath is very near SHELBURNE FALLS, a charming village w/ famous Bridge of Flowers, artisan shops, bistros, film and music. The cottage is just 6m from BERKSHIRE EAST SKI CENTER. White water rafting (and tubing and zip-lining) on the Deerfield River just 6m away!     HEAT CHARGE EXPLANATION:
    There will be a surcharge (based on actual usage) for propane fuel during heating season. Surcharge is based on Owner's cost per gallon. Other places often charge a higher rate for colder months, a plan that does not benefit a guest who is sensible/ responsible about heating the living space.

    Our cottage has 4 heating zones (for propane-fueled baseboard heat), is fully insulated, and has storm windows. Also, we have a fireplaces and an electric 'woodstove,' as well as lots of cozy blankets and quilts for your added comfort during nite hours.
  • FREE FIREWOOD IS PROVIDED.

Beyond Charming!

My family and I often rent houses as a way of gathering (we come from several different states so it's the easiest way), and this was by far the nicest home we have yet encountered! It was only part of my family this time but we've already talked with each other about when we might be able to come back. It's absolutely a charming home, vacation rental or not. Beautiful, well kept gardens, quaint details, a warm fire...it was sad to come for so short a time. Simply, just what we needed and what was most important, the cottage is located - away from it all. We certainly made our stay a home away from home. The cottage is cozy, clean and well kept. Heath and the surrounding areas are charming. We can't wait to do it again.

Owner was easy to communicate with and responded immediately regarding any issues. Cottage was very clean and comfortable. Great pots and pans other amenities were excellent. Master bedroom was great; other bedrooms are best suited for children or young adults. Great place to stay if you want to unwind, relax and spend quality time with those you bring with you into the cottage. The owner has done an outstanding job giving directions to the cottage and things to do and places to go around the area. Spending time in the cottage was like going back in time, don't expect anything fancy.

Beautiful and relaxing

My mom, uncle and I spent a beautiful and relaxing week at the Serenity Stone Cottage in September. We loved just sitting on the deck/porch looking over the wild flowers, so colorful, the many butterflies flittering around us, and our favorite: the hummingbirds!! I've never had so many (or any) encounters with hummingbirds - it was breath-taking to watch and listen to them. My uncle and I also took my dog Barney on a hike at the nearby Mohawk Trail State Park up a small mountain. And we enjoyed visiting the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne Falls. The cottage was so well done and comfortable we mostly just stayed in and enjoyed the peace. We will definitely try to get back there some day!!

The cottage was everything as it appears in the photos and very comfortable. Everything was in place when we arrived and felt very welcoming. We enjoyed eggs and cheese from local farms, as suggested, as well as our visits to Shelburne Falls and Salmon Falls Artists Gallery. A lovely day was spent at the Clark Museum in nearby Williamstown, with a great lunch in the Museum Cafe. Hiking Greylock was a perfect afternoon activity, and fishing in the nearby streams was great fun. Something for everyone, and all ages!!!! Don't miss lunch in Elmer's General Store, and a visit to the Bridge of Flowers is always a highlight. We have visited the area before, but this is the first time we rented the Serenity Stone Cottage----and certainly will not be the last. Can't wait to be there in the Fall.
