Spectacular views of the Jemez and Sangre de Christo mountain ranges – Easy access to the acclaimed Santa Fe Opera – Minutes from the historic Plaza and Santa Fe Ski Basin. General description of interior: You enter the house through the piano room, with the dining and living rooms to the right and the media room in front of you. You’ll find many beautiful, original works of art and an interesting book collection for your enjoyment. Hidden away in a lovely antique armoire in the media room is an entertainment center including a large HD television and DVD. This room invites solitary relaxation, intimate conversation or festive entertaining. Just step outside to enjoy the fabulous mountain sunsets on the multi-tiered deck or a meal cooked on the outdoor grill. For the adventurous, there are two bicycles located in the garage.
Main area description: The open concept main living space includes a large living room, furnished in comfortable Western style with leather sofas, easy chairs, interesting art work, including native rugs, a large kiva fireplace and plenty of firewood. The heavy wooden dining table, eclectic chairs, seating six to eight people, separates the kitchen from the living room. You’ll find plenty of dishes, flatware and serving pieces, mugs and bowls and glasses of all types. The small galley kitchen has tiled countertops, pots and pan hanging from the ceiling, and of all the amenities a person who loves cooking would want.
Awesome Mountain Views!: Off the upper master suite, you’ll find a small patio and stairs to the roof deck. Once you’ve seen this awesome 360 degree view of 4 mountain ranges, you’ll never want to leave! Come feel the magic of the mountains.
Because many of the handmade, original art pieces are within a child’s reach, we discourage families with young children staying in our home.
Views were fantastic, home was beautiful with spacious bedrooms. Perfect getaway for those that want to divide their time between being together, but having the opportunity for quiet time away from the rest of the group. Many nooks for reading, writing or surfing the net. Small kitchen, as noted by many other reviewers, was not a problem for us, but does not allow for complicated meal preparation - and who wants to do that on vacation anyway? The owners are the best! I have rented a lot on VRBO and this was the best experience I have ever had. Hope to go back someday soon!
We stayed here over Labor Day weekend, and must tell you that this place is a real find! Although it seems far removed from the bustle of downtown Santa Fe, perched as it is in the hills, it was really just under 10 minutes from the Plaza. The house is fantastic -- full of beautiful objects and local art, and the house itself is a work of art, yet it feels welcoming and cozy and truly as if you are a guest in a spectacular private home. The outside is just as lovely - with several little garden sitting areas and large patios from which to relax and admire the stunning views. We recommend the rooftop for sunset! The owners were a pleasure to deal with, and were incredibly thoughtful in the many ways they took care to insure our stay was a good one.
A few notes on who I'd recommend this rental for: We were a family of five - parents and three adult kids - and it was perfect: each bedroom is like a master suite, and there was plenty of space and privacy for all. It would work well for two or three couples, also. But there are a lot of stairs and uneven floors (we found this to be part of its artisanal charm), so it would probably not be best for those with mobility or balance issues. Additionally, although there are a number of beautiful, well-appointed common rooms, they are of smaller, more intimate scale, and there is no one, large gathering place. It worked perfectly for us - every room had enough seating to accommodate the five of us, and the dining room was more than ample for our group, and we used the large deck often.
A couple of other notes: as described by the owners, the kitchen is a galley kitchen -- we found it to be very small but thoroughly equipped for the dinner and breakfasts we cooked together. Also, as noted, there is no air conditioning. We stayed in late summer, during a particularly hot spell for Santa Fe (temps in the high 80's - 90). The house got very warm during the day and took quite a while to cool down at night. The owners have equipped the house with multiple high-power fans, but the heat drove us out to the patios in the evenings.
We love Santa Fe, and love spending time in town and on Canyon Road, but Casa de Musica was so entrancing that we found we had to tear ourselves away to head to town. It was the perfect venue for our small family get-together, and we hope to return soon!
This house is absolutely incredible! It was very clean and well-stocked with everything for our comfort. We loved the decks, reading nooks, and spacious rooms, but could hardly pull ourselves off of the rooftop deck after watching the gorgeous sunsets. Magical! So much to see and do in Santa Fe, but we were always excited to come back to this house. The homeowners thought of EVERYTHING----communication was excellent, and lots of information on area restaurants/attractions was available, which was very helpful. We absolutely LOVED our week on this stunning property. It is much more than the photos show!!!!
Well, I must say that I have never cried leaving a place before. We have traveled all over including Kenya and Belize, many cities in Europe and in multiple states in the US, and as much as I enjoy the trips, I am always ready to go home. Not this time! I already love Santa Fe so much, but this absolutely incredible home in the foothills took it to a whole new level. The stunning setting, multiple decks, and breathtaking views are more incredible than we have ever experienced. Inside, the tastefully decorated rooms, comfortable beds, numerous seating areas and reading nooks, and of course all of the incredible art made it feel like we were staying in a museum. Carol and Stephen, your love of that home, and of Santa Fe, is so apparent, and we share it with you. I am so grateful that you are willing to share your home. I don't think I would be able to trust others in it if it were mine.
All 8 of us enjoyed making meals in the well-stocked kitchen and taking in the sunrises and sunsets on the decks. Watching the birds at the feeders was a treat. A short 15 minute drive into town for anything you could need, but then to come home to this amazing place, away from it all, was pure heaven on earth. My only disappointment is that I can never again experience walking into this home for the first time! What fun to walk through the rooms, up and down staircases, thrilled to find THREE beautiful master bedrooms, so no one felt shorted here!! The owners, Carol and Stephen, are wonderful people who were so patient, understanding, and flexible with our frequently-changing arrival date. To top it off, my mother left her sweaters in a drawer at their house, and she was so amazed when they showed up at her house! Not many people would go to the trouble to send those back. Suffice to say that the town, the surroundings, the owners, and this house, are all top-notch. You will NOT be disappointed. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back. Thank you, again, for being willing to share this magical place with others.
Casa de Musica proved to be an ideal get-away haven for four of us intent on finding a week's peace and quiet. I love the sparse beauty of the southwest, so expansive views were high on my list for a vacation rental. The house is on the high ground just north of the Veteran's Memorial Highway, which gives it unobstructed views of the Sangre de Christo range and Jemez mountains. I especially loved the perfect view of the lights of Los Alamos at night. There are all sorts of nooks and spaces for anyone wanting to find a cozy place to read (or nap), along with three enormous bedrooms with en-suite baths. The kitchen would be a bit small if one was creating a feast for a dozen, but was perfect for our needs. It is not a house for those with mobility difficulties, as there are steps and sunken spaces (and a tiny step up into the dining room which tripped me for the first three days!) but otherwise the varied rooms and levels provide much of the house's fascination and charm. The owners provided us with ample information prior to arriving, and there are a number of guide books and brochures in the house itself.
There's nothing like having a home when you are away from home. Casa de Musica met every expectation and contributed to a great vacation.
We'd planned a post-holiday getaway with another couple and my choice of Casa De Musica was certainly right in tune. All of us have been to Santa Fe and the surrounding area numerous times and we wanted a house that would fit two couples well. i.e. more than just a master suite and lesser bedrooms. While the house can accommodate more than four (we never used the lower level suite), we found that both the upper level suite and the main floor suite were huge, quiet and comfortable. Beds and linens were top notch and we never ran out of hot water in the large showers.
We found that the smaller, yet lacking nothing, kitchen was good for us, as other than breakfast, we tended to dine out or exist on snacks and wine in front of the television. As we were winter visitors, staying cozy was at the top of the list and we never even touched the perfectly set thermostats. The heated floors in the suites were just warm enough and the radiant heat was silent, just like the outdoors. While is seemed we were miles and miles from town, it was only a 10 minute drive to the Plaza. And the views!
The television display (Directv-powered) was easy to use and had numerous channels and a DVR. Wifi worked fine as well, plus we used the upstairs Mac to check in and print our boarding passes.
The collection of art and furnishings was unique for a VRBO home and fascinating. So many nooks and crannies to go find a quiet spot to read.
This was a great destination and we hope to return for a summer visit at some future time to take advantage of the decks and patios which also provided outdoor grills.
Robb was at the door within minutes of our arrival to welcome us and show us the details, plus any questions were addressed prior to arrival via email.
Spectacular 360 degree views of the Jemez and Sangre de Christo mountain ranges from the roof deck.
