Overview

Highlands Cabin Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, loft, 3 full bathrooms, sleeps 9 comfortably.

Welcome to Log Cabin on Big Creek. You and your family will be very comfortable in our creek-side mountain rental log cabin located in beautiful Highlands, North Carolina. Our cabin is very unique because it sits right next to a very large creek. From both porches you look right down into the water. We have high-speed internet with WiFi and BlueRay. You will enjoy our secluded location off a private gravel road. The only sounds you'll hear while sitting in our large screened-in porch are the rushing of water from the creek, wind in the trees, and if you're lucky, a trout reaching for a mayfly. The cabin sits at an altitude of over 3,800 ft. so the temperature is at least 10 degrees cooler than Atlanta and there is relatively little humidity! There are wonderful hikes throughout the Highlands/Cashiers area to be enjoyed year round. After your hike you’ll enjoy a soak in our jetted tub. If you're looking for a pet-friendly vacation, you've come to the right spot. We consider all pets except cats.

No Smoking: We have a strict no smoking policy in the cabin. If you smoke outside the cabin please field strip cigarettes and throw the butts in the garbage.

We are very good about keeping the availability calendar up to date.

Pets: We accept dogs that don't tear-up the house and landscaping, however, there is an additional $25.00 charge, per dog, for interior clean-up and a $100 refundable deposit. Please do your best to pick-up after your dog outside. Please don't leave your dogs in the cabin unattended for long periods of time. Cats are not allowed under any circumstances as the owner is very allergic! Other pets are okay with prior approval. Finally, although our cabin is pet friendly we are not flea friendly! In consideration of all our renters, please make sure your dogs are free of fleas or you will be charged to get rid of them.

Seasons: There is a lot to do all year round in the Highlands/Cashiers area. Off season can be the best time if you like the many hiking trails all to yourself. Leaf Season is spectacular. We often get snow in the winter to be prepared with a 4-wheel drive or chains.

Great Family Friendly Cabin

  • 4 of 5
This cabin was charming, comfortable and welcoming for our quick family get-away. The kids loved playing in the creek (well supervised, of course) and we kept the fire roaring.

The owners could not have been more concerned for our welfare and enjoyment! We plan to return very soon.

This is an outstanding and unique property.

This is our second trip to the cabin on Big Creek; we visited for a week in August 2013 and posted a review. Our very favorable opinion from the original trip has not changed. This cabin is great and the description was accurate, the property was clean and well maintained, and the owner was anxious to ensure we had a good visit.

Since our initial visit the owner has added another room to the main cabin, and the new addition is outstanding. The owner spared no expense - the room is spectacular.

Our only comment would be that the new room does not have a double bed. There is only one double bed in the house which is in the master bedroom. All the other beds are singles, which might or might not be a problem for couples, depending...

We love this property for all the reasons stated in our original review. This cabin has to be one of the most unique in the Highlands area. We would not hesitate to rent it again and have recommended it to friends.

Owner's Response: We struggled with whether or not to put another queen bed instead of two twins in the new addition. In the end we decided that our kids could bring more friends with the extra bed. Thanks again for your nice review.

I have not written a review before, so trust this is heartfelt:

The setting was like a postcard and the home was so beautiful and comfortable we didn't want to leave. The sound of the water over the stones just below was the most relaxing background I can imagine. So private but just a few minutes from town!

The rooms were beautifully furnished with antiques and "sophisticated cabin style" and the beds so comfortable with good quality linens. (And, okay, I am a bit of a bed snob - think "Princess and the Pea" - but we were there for 5 nights and the beds were perfect.)

There are 2 wonderful vaulted living rooms, a well-supplied kitchen, 2 large outdoor living areas, and more than I could have asked for in a setting.

I recommend you go to Fresh Mountain Grocery and get the oven fired pizzas or try one of the gourmet daily specials or the gourmet take home dinners for 2, don't forget a bottle of wine - then bring back to the cabin and eat on one of the porches.

Basically, this was my first time to rent a home for a vacation, but the experience was perfect from beginning to end. The price? I think it was a bargain. It was only the two of us, but if I had a family with me, it would be a steal.

I'm home now and woke up this morning to have my coffee with no view and no running creek and ready to go back. When I do, I will be hoping to come back here.

Thank you, Andrew. The home was just the quiet vacation I was needing.

Owner's Response: Our cabin is our home away from home. Before we built the addition we thought about buying a bigger place to accommodate our three kids and all of their friends. The problem was we couldn't find a secluded location on a creek that was close enough to town. Now the kids can do their thing and we can enjoy peaceful quiet time all in the same house without stepping all over each other. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay and please come back soon.

Outstanding in every respect

My wife and I enjoyed this cabin in late August 2013. We found that the posted pictures of the property did not do it justice. The cabin is clean, well appointed and the kitchen is more than adequately equipped - according to my wife. All I noticed was the fact that this cabin is paradise for a porch sitter. Perch on the lower deck and be close to Big Creek or sit on the upper, screened in porch and still be close to the creek and also have a great view and a cool breeze - and still be able to see and hear the creek. If you desire a change of scenery from those two porches then sit on the front porch and enjoy the wildflowers if your visit is in the summer. It was too warm for a fire during our visit - if you consider low 70's during the day high temps - but the stone fireplace was large enough to burn railroad ties were it possible to load them on the andirons. The fireplace is unique and should circumstances allow we will be back when cold weather will permit a shin burner.

The cabin is secluded but not remote. Highlands is a delightful little town and we enjoyed trying a few of the restaurants, but for the most part the cabin was too nice to leave for any extended period.

Guests must negotiate a few stairs to reach the living area and a few more to reach the master bedroom but this should not be a problem for most folks.

This cabin has to be one of the most unique in the Highlands area and we would not hesitate to recommend this property to friends and family.

peaceful family vacation

  • 5 of 5
we had such an incredible vacation here this summer that we just had to come back for thanksgiving. Quiet mountain retreat just minutes from highlands. spent some great times on the porch listening to the water flowing. The climate was delightful over 100 at home and in the 70's on the porch. The fire was awesome during thanksgiving. I can highly recommend this for either a romantic or family vacation.

Fantastic location

This cabin was even better than the pictures. Great layout, perfect setting, the stream was icing on the cake. Plenty to do and see for my wife and I, two teenage girls. two 9 yr old boys and our black lab. We will definitely come back, would like to try a weekend when the weather is warm.
