We are a 41 yr old couple with 2 kids, 6 and 8 yrs old. I graduated from ASU in 1992 and have always loved the mountains. We live in Charlotte and get up to Valle Crucis as often as possible!
It's beautiful and peaceful. I went to ASU and still love the area after 20 years. My dream was to have a vacation property in the mountains and this cabin is perfect. It's close enough to Boone, Blowing Rock (shopping!) and Banner Elk for convenience, yet far enough away to feel 'off the beaten path'. I also love the river and winding road in front of the cabin. We meander down the road in all kinds of weather and play in the river during the summer. We usually see deer, geese, ducks, horses and of course COWS on every excursion.
As soon as the road turns gravel (about 1 mile from the cabin), all of my stress melts away. You cross a small bridge and we call it the 'Ahhh Bridge' because as soon as we get there, I just feel 'ahhhh'. The cabin is cozy and the mountain/pasture view is really peaceful. I feel like I get my best rest when we are there and we definitely enjoy our best family quality time. It's the only place where the TV is rarely on, where we play lots of games and work on puzzles.
The covered porch is probably my favorite spot. I sit in the rocker and read and relax. The view is great and you can sit out there on a rainy day and listen to the rain bouncing on the tin roof. Ahhhh....
