Peak-A-View:
Enjoy the peace and quiet of your own private sanctuary in the vacation home our family loves. Our kids are still in school so unfortunately we are unable to enjoy August and September, two of the best months of the year. We bought Peak-A-View (so named because of view down the property to the mountains on the west side of the island) three years ago and have only recently decided to offer it to others to enjoy during the time of the summer we cannot be there..
Located just down the street from Long Pond (about 300 yards from the north end of Long Pond near the National Canoe Rental place), this modern home is within easy reach of Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, N.E. Harbor and S.W. Harbor and the other villages and sights of Mount Desert Island. This home is perfect for the family and/or friends who want privacy and solitude, but also want close proximity to restaurants and shopping.
The house has been newly renovated. Both inside and out has been painted.

Things to do near Peak A View:
• Mt. Desert Island.(3 hours north of Portland, an hour from Bangor) Mt. Desert is reached by a short causeway from the mainland. The island is quite different geographically than the nearby mainland. It is about 20 miles across, has about 20 mountains and about 20 lakes and large ponds. Cadilac Mountain is just over 1500 feet.
• Long Pond(they call it a pond in these parts, but it is several miles long with two branches, some would call it a lake) A short walk down the hill is great for swimming, kayak/canoeing and fishing.
• Acadia National Park, the park covers about half of the island, see National Park Website http://www.nps.gov/acad/
The park has 125 miles of hiking trails that take you to top of mountains ranging from 300-1500 feet. Unlike the southern Appalachians (which are generally tree covered), these mountains are bald, so your trek up is rewarded with wonderful views of the island, lakes and the offshore islands. In addition t
For the foggy days, there is a large (41 inch) plasma television and lots of DVDs to catch up on movies in the den. If you prefer a quiet place to read the living room where you can sit by the wood stove and read.
The large gourmet kitchen lends itself to entertaining or just making ice cream and cookies for the family. It has everything a cook could want -including a gas stove with attachable griddle, a microwave, an ice cream maker, coffee maker, and lots of baking and serving pieces.
Long Pond is a 5 minute walk from the house. Canoes and kayaks are available for rent at the National Park Canoe Rental and there is a swimming area to enjoy on warm days. Long Pond is also a great place to watch the sunsets or to see the fog rolling in.
Southwest Harbor is a 10 minute drive that takes you past Echo Lake, through parts of Acadia National Park and several hiking trails. Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor are a 15 minute drive from the house.
Ski:
Cross country skiing is great on the carriage trails of Mt. Desert. For downhill, you must drive 3.5 hours to Sugarloaf or Sunday River. There are some other smaller slopes near Camden.
Golf:
There are three courses on the island. Kebo Valley Golf, an 18 hole course in Bar Harbor, is one of the oldest courses in the country. Kebo is open to the public. The Causeway Club in Southwest Harbor is a 9 hole course located right on the water that is open to the public. Northeast Harbor Golf Club is an 18 hole course that is members only for part of the year and 'visitors welcomed' at other times. Call for information.
