Location and comfort best describe this paradise home on beautiful West Gulf Drive. You'll love the privacy this near beach home has to offer. It's a very spacious 3/2 home with southern exposure, a huge bi-level sheltered pool with jacuzzi and large decking area just across the road from some of the best beaching on Sanibel. Don't miss the roof top deck that offers fabulous gulf views and romantic sunsets. The home has a great floor plan. Main level includes foyer, extra large living space that opens to a patio deck that over looks the pool and spa. Includes a fully equipped kitchen, breakfast counter, and dining area. Your friends and family will look forward spending the night in one of the two guest bedrooms, one with a queen bed, the other two twins, with hall and bathroom in between. If you follow the hardwood staircase upstairs, you will find the private master suite and bath with balcony.
Location is outstanding. This beach house is a five minute bicycle ride away from Sanibel's National Wildlife Refuge, and new health clubs. Staying at Almost Heaven, you'll experience the vacation of the lifetime. Close to a wide variety of great places to dine for that perfect romantic dinner or family meal, along with the beach and nature, you can't go wrong at Almost Heaven.
Almost Heaven Beach house is 280 steps to the beautiful world famous shelling shores of the gulf thats a 31/2

Words cannot describe this beautiful home the minute you walk in you feel right at home ;-) my husband an I spent a very relaxing time here from the short walk to the beach to the hot tub an pool downstairs not only were the amenities perfect Martha the owner is the nicest lady accommodating and providing the upmost hospitality I would definitely recommend renting this home its HEAVEN!!!! Do you know the only true combination for the most positive, absolutly perfect and impressive first visit in an so far unknown country, an unknown continent? You just need three things: A house called "Almost heaven", an island named Sanibel and an owner called Martha. So little could guarantee you the wish never to leave again this paradise, to quit your job, to throw your return flight ticket away.
My husband, my son (13 years old) and me opened the door and felt at home. Athmosphere, coziness, charisma. Everything very clean and prepared with love for our stay of two weeks this october 2012. Perfectly equipped from the garage till the roof. Unnecessary to mention all the details starting with pool, sunbeds, beachchairs, kids sand toys etcetera, continuing to towels, bed linen and clean washing machine, dryer, microwave, air condition, WiFi, telephone, ending with the lovely and tastefully chosen furniture and decoration. The hole property was well maintained, a gardener came to care about the surrounding, the pool service controlled water quality etcetera.
The island is a beauty and the beach accesses easy and comfortable. We loved the close beach patha just across the street, found it fantastic to drive some 5 minutes by bike down the street (beach access 7) to reach another empty, natural, clean section, walking towards Bowmans Beach. Clear water, beautiful birds and dolphins: Swimming in the Gulf of Mexico was a real pleasure. An excursion by canoe, renting a motorboat at the marina, bicykle tours and jogging runnings: We enjoyed every single day.
So you ask me about the final ingredient for the perfect holiday?
Easy to answer and not exaggerated: The owner, Martha! She is incredible. Already in advance she answered every question coming up to our "Non US accustomed minds", full of patience and understanding. During our stay we remained in contact via internet. On the one hand my family and me felt absolutly free to use this wonderful house as if it would be our own, on the other hand we felt protected and secured in a way. A very good and relaxing feeling, perfect to enjoy a real holidaystay.
Tears in our eyes when leaving. Luggage filled with fantastic impressions of a new continent, a new country with extreamly friendly and open minded inhabitants, unforgettable memories and gratitude for a woman called Martha. We are infected now of this US virus, we HAVE to come back, there is no other chance. Soon, very soon.
My husband and I fell in love with Sanibel 19 years ago and have stayed on island several times each year ever since. This has given us an insight into many different rental accommodations from beachfront inns, beachfront condos, canal homes and lots of houses sprinkled along West Gulf Drive just across the street from the beach. However, this is definitely the best home that we’ve found on island. Also, it’s great to know that, if necessary, you can seek advice from Martha, who is a great help with any queries. This clean & beautifully appointed home welcomes you from the moment that you arrive – particularly after a very lengthy journey. It has a marvelous kitchen & dining area, with everything you could possibly need for entertaining guests. If several of you are staying, draw lots for the tranquility of the private suite upstairs! It is also great to have the bikes to explore the island (especially the one with hand-brakes for me … ha ha).
A short stroll along the beach access path, leads you to the most fantastic beach, which is virtually for your exclusive use only, apart from the occasional sheller or jogger passing gently by. I have no reservations about thoroughly recommending this home … but just don’t book it when we want to stay there !
My sister, my neice and myself have planned trip to Sanibel for a year, we were going to stay at a motel. Since we have rented houses at other places we have visted decided to look for a house and found "almost heaven". We are so glad we did very nice warm , appealing house, surrounding area very nice, quiet dead end street.
The beach path is slightly overgrown but still very nice and appealing walk, we did find that other people do use the beach, also had boaters that would stop and use it, so we usually timed beach time later in the day or early morning but the beach was so cool with the surf and shells. To make long reveiw shorter, if you like coming into a regular home instead of the motel scene having not to share a pool or hot tub this is for you. We found the deck very relaxing i will return if everything works out next year. Would highly recommend
Firstly I would like to thank Marta for her help and ease of contact and we would definitely look to rebook this wonderful home again in the future.
The house is as described, very clean and tidy and has all the facilities listed that you would require (in fact 6 bikes - pick the ones with the soft saddles if your like us and not proficient bike riders, as its fun and you will spend a lot of early mornings out riding)
The screened pool is great, large and cool on the hot lazy days.
As mentioned on other reviews the master bedroom is also of a good size with a large ensuite (separate Jacuzzi bath and a separate shower), the master bedroom has the balcony that leads to the roof, very hot during the day, with a great view.
The beach is a 5 minute walk if that, out of the house across a quiet road and down a path directly onto the deserted beach. The beach is great early morning for the shell collectors. Later in the day it is deserted for at least 400 yards as the nearest hotels/Inns are that distance (weekends a few locals use that part of the beach not many though).
On early morning or late evening trips to the beach put bug spray on as the path leading to the beach is tropical and has many bugs. Not a problem during the day.
The nearest bar is a short bike ride, walk, drive (1 mile) up the top of Rabbit road (Doc Fords) ok for food a drink. Better restaurants further into the village, but your will need a car.
The best bar for any entertainment is by far the Jacaranda which has live music every night, a short drive away.
We had a great meal at the Mad Hatter restaurant a 15 minute drive away but it is pricey. An alternative for good food priced reasonably is the Lighthouse restaurant just over the bridge to Fort Myers.
Buy your supplies at one of the many Publix stores over the bridge towards Fort Myers as they sell great steaks and fish to cook within the well stocked kitchen and it’s cheaper than the local shops.
It WAS heaven! We enjoyed this spacious, clean, beautiful home with our two small children and inlaws. The owner was friendly and helpful. The layout was perfect...huge kitchen was wonderful for cooking fresh seafood and mixing up batches of frozen margaritas and mojitos. The children loved having a t.v. in their room and we enjoyed having a private master suite upstairs all to ourselves. The rooftop was a wonderful place to stargaze!
The beach was close by through an exotically foliaged path and we had the beach all to ourselves. We enjoyed shelling and watching the dolphins. It was so nice to come back from the beach and have a pool at the house. Our children LOVED the pool and we could sit on the hammock or lounge chairs and read while they swam. The children also liked to chase the chameleons on the outside of the screened in pool. We played games and put together a puzzle on the upper deck. The neighbors were very nice and had good recommendations.
We were able to walk to the fitness center daily (they had a weekly rate) and to Doc Ford's for an incredible meal. Would recommend Key Lime Bistro, Mucky Duck and Dot's Seaside Saloon as well. Thoroughly enjoyed The Bailey-Matthew's Shell Museum.
We would definitely stay again. Excellent, relaxing vacation...wish that we were there now!
