Autumn Splendor

5 of 5
Submitted: October 13, 2009 Stayed: October 2009
We had a wonderful vacation on Blueberry Lane. The view from the main floor is lovely. Stripes of autumn color, fields, tree lined hills, and glistening water laid out before us. The house was private, comfortable, clean and well stocked. There are many stairs to climb but a large clean garage to stage bringing in groceries and bags. Our dogs were in heaven roaming the fields and water. The laundry room/bathroom off the garage was a great place to dry them off and feed them. We enjoyed meeting Peter and Barbara the owners. They were available to answer questions and encouraged us to use their dock and kayak. The river was lovely for kayaking, gentle tidal water with many coves to explore. The bird life is plentiful and a longer paddle brings you out to open ocean. Getting down to the water from the rented property is limited to a narrow ramp but at low tide you can walk out on the rocks. The owners have provided many local guides that suggest places to see and restaurants to try. We climbed in the Camden Hills for amazing views and visited Owls Head Lighthouse at dusk. I would certainly recommend this property to a friend. It is not a place for much nightlife, most places close by 9:00. It takes at least a 20 minute drive to get to markets and restaurants but it was a relaxing vacation that we truly enjoyed.

A Heaven Sent Vacation

I have rented cottages, condos, villas, you-name-it, for many years of vacations. Most places have been as good or better than their descriptions and photos. The Matton's house on Blueberry Lane exceeded all descriptions and expectations. It was truly a remarkable space of utterly peaceful surroundings in sight of bay waters and the ebb and flow of the tides and a much-needed relief from daily routines and demands. The Mattons are friendly hosts who have thought of everything one might need for an ideal vacation -- even an electric lobster pot! What more could one ask of a stay on the Maine coast?

Owner's Response: We just love our guest to enjoy Maine as much as we do! Sharing Maine and our vacation home is so much fun and really our pleasure.

Peaceful, very relaxing, and central to the coast

We had such an incredible time on Blueberry lane. The owners were so very accomadating, and jump to help at the slightest of problems. The house is surrounded by acres of blueberries to make fresh pancakes with.We fished the river for stripped bass, picked a 5 gal. bucket of mussels. Toured the coast from Pemiquid to Bangor. Went white water rafting in catagory IV waters at The Forks in the Moose and River valley region, a 2 hr. scenic drive (we saw moose too). We soared in gliders above Rockland. And best of all we relaxed in this fine home a drank the wine we purchased from area wineries. It was a real treat. John and Diane

A place to get away from it all!

My daughters and I had a wonderful week stay at this house. It was a wonderful escape from the hustle and bustle of life. The house is surrounded by blueberry fields which reminded me of the Scottish moors. The house itself was immaculate. The owners welcomed us warmly and made it clear that they could be called for any information or issues that we might have. They made us feel more like friends than renters. The town of Friendship is a town with few commercial stores though the General Store is a great place to observe the people of this "friendly" town. Within a relatively short drive, you can find plenty of restaurants, the wonderful Farnsworth Art Museum, gift shops, and even ATMs! We actually drove for 2 hours one day and were in Acadia. The house has two outside decks which provided wonderful views of the tidal river and the blueberry fields. And to top everything off, we actually saw the sun on every day exept our departure day!! Overall just a super place!

Blueberries, Mountains, and a River View!

5 of 5
Submitted: August 4, 2008 Stayed: July 2008
My husband, our dogs, and I just finished an 8 day vacation on Blueberry Lane. The house and property are wonderful. Barbara and Peter have provided all ammenities needed for a comfortable stay. The house and property are clean and well maintained. Friendship is centrally located, within easy driving distance, to many attractions. I am not sure what I enjoyed the most: the mountain view, the river view, the fields, the blueberry picking, the beautiful house, the small town, the privacy, morning walks across the fields, etc, etc. I cannot think of anything about our stay that wasn't perfect. We even saw a fireworks display over the hillside while we sat on the couch in the great room! The moon was full and the firework display was superb. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. I felt like we were staying at our friends' house. I certainly hope we can come back to Friendship and stay again on Blueberry Lane!

Owner's Response: We are thrilled our new friends enjoyed their stay at Blueberry Lane and would love seeing them again. It is very important to us that our guest are comfortable and able to spend their time relaxing and enjoying the surroundings. Maine is a special summer vacation spot and we enjoy and love it ourselves and get great satisfaction sharing it with others.
