A little piece of heaven!

Just back from a week at Villa Canteena (July 2008). I stayed with my family of 6 (including a baby) and we had a wonderful time! The accommodations were superb. The villa is separated from the ocean only by a sparkling infinity pool. You could hear the waves at night even with the windows closed. Every window holds a majestic view. The compound is very private. My kids ran around the grounds with the children next door (friends vacationing with us) and were very safe. A very family friendly establishment. They even had a crib set up for my baby when we arrived.
With six adults and 10 kids total in our party, there was something for everyone. The guest director, Mauricio, was extremely accommodating. He made sure we had everything we needed and arranged all of our activities from massages to wave runners, to fishing trips. That said, there was plenty of lay-around-the-pool time and splashing in the surf. Mother nature has diminished some of the sand directly in front of the villa, so for a larger beach area, you have to walk about 30 yards down the beach where Mauricio will have umbrellas, lounge chairs and a cooler with drinks waiting for you. The beach is very private, secluded and safe. The only people on the beach were the ones staying in the surrounding villas, except for Sunday afternoon when some of the locals showed up. Even so, no one bothered us or tried to sell us anything.
We ate all of our meals at the villa's palapa and took advantage of the meal plan. We were very pleased. Once again, the menu is so extensive there is something for everyone. The kitchen was very flexible in accommodating some of the needs of one of my children on a restricted diet. Breakfast, lunch, happy hour, and dinner were all wonderful. Be sure to try the lime soup and the shrimp tacos! (As an aside, with all meals eaten at the villa, no one got sick!)
The owner, Doy, was very friendly and such a gracious host. She treated all the guests to a fiesta night with live singers and drinks! It was fun for all.
Home just one day and my kids are already asking when we can go back! You won't be disappointed!
