You might think this is just another vacation home, but there's actually a story behind it...starting with our grandfather "Pop's" love of the ocean. Although he lived simply as a commercial fisherman, he and his brother saved enough money along the way for us to invest in a family home in their memory. We chose Kona Heavens because of the ocean's proximity and all of its offerings. Our family has gathered here many times since. In the spirit of Pop's generosity, we wanted to share this oasis with others; so, we decided to make it available as a rental property! We hope you create as many wonderful memories during your stay as we have. This is truly a special place that Pop would have loved. We think of him every time we visit.
The Owner purchased this house in 2005
Our family had visited the islands of Hawaii a few times prior to the purchase of this home, and we all agreed that the Big Island had some very unique characteristics we just couldn't ignore...and Kona was the perfect spot to blend them all together. We loved being in a quiet, secluded neighborhood away from the hubbub of the tourists, while being just minutes from attractions and shops to supply all of our needs. We have enjoyed many evenings out on the lanai barbecuing fresh fish from the nearby harbor. We love going to local beaches to swim, snorkel, and scuba dive...with so many gorgeous options for all of these activities. Downtown Kona is just minutes away, and a lovely spot to stroll, window shop and dine out. The local flavor of upper mountain towns and tropical Hilo also offer a unique cultural experience.
We had compared prices to hotels in Kona...and this was a great deal for its spaciousness and flexibility. You can stock the fridge with all of your favorite foods, have a large living space to watch DVD's or play boardgames with your family, swim 24/7 in a private, heated pool and enjoy tropical edibles right from the garden! Because we work closely with a local management company, your needs are conveniently and immediately met during your stay. The home will be spotless when you arrive and thoroughly cleaned when you depart. It's the perfect blend of quiet oasis and fun vacation spot for you and your family to enjoy. This place truly has it all!
We came here with our 8 month old and it was fantastic. Beautiful home, away from the heat and traffic downtown. AMAZING sunsets every night. It was such a relaxing experience and such a great way to spend a week. We had a rental car so getting to the beach was an easy 15 minute drive, but it was great to be a little bit removed from the resorts/downtown/beach area when we wanted to just chill at night. Also loved the wild chickens and turkeys that sometimes roam the neighborhood. HIGHLY recommend it for any type of family.
We stayed here for a week during the Ironman Race. It was Perfect for us! 7 of us were very comfortable! It is in a beautiful neighborhood, with gorgeous view and sunsets! We found the garage had all kinds of snorkel equipment, water shoes add beach towels were even included! The landscape was beautifully maintained. We picked fruit right from the trees, (although the avocados never quite got ripe enough while we were there). Thank you for a great vacation!
After a few rainy days on Oahu, my girlfriend and I flew to the Big Island to meet up with two other couples staying at the house. As soon as I got off the plane in Kona I thought “now THIS is Hawaii”: warm sun, blue skies, and turquoise waters. A very short drive later we arrived at the house and were greeted by our friends and the million-dollar ocean view. If the only thing you did in Hawaii was lounge on the hammock in this lanai you’d be happy.
Over the next few days we went charter fishing (caught tuna dinner for the whole party), snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, relaxed by the pool and explored Kona. The only activity that required driving more than 30 minutes was a trip to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (about 2 hours and definitely worth it).
There were 6 adults and 2 children in our party and we had plenty of room. Everything was top-notch. If we ever have the chance to get back to Hawaii I’d love to stay in this house again.
My wife and I stayed for a week with two other couples, a baby and a toddler. The house felt totally isolated due to the sense of privacy and lack of any noise. Very relaxing! The kitchen was stocked with all necessities to prepare full meals each day. Great appliances, pots and pans, utensils. The lanai was the most popular attraction of the house; we had so much fun lounging and eating out there by the pool that we never even turned on the big screen TV. The view from the lanai was even better than is represented in the pictures, with amazing sunsets and a cool breeze to keep the temperature hovering around perfect. Sleeping arrangements were very comfortable. Although the house feels isolated, we explored the island easily with 10-20 minute drives to surfing, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, hiking, dining and nightlife. We loved this great home and would recommend anyone looking for a relaxing Big Island getaway to book it...just not when we're trying to come back!
This house on the hillside above Kona is a really great place to vacation. It is a large residence which looks exactly like the pictures. The outside patio and pool are outstanding, and quite frankly we spent a good portion of our vacation days there just lounging by the pool. My only minor complaints were that there was an insane amount of mosquitos on the lanai and the fridge was leaking water on the kitchen floor.
In any case, I would definitely recommend this location to others. It's probably one of the best vacation homes I've had the pleasure of staying in.
Loren, the six of us were perfectly comfortable in your Kona paradise. The setting of your home, the neighborhood, the drive to get to it, all was lovely and easily accessible to all of the sights we wanted to get to, and just within 10 minutes to the Safeway grocery, gas stations, Kona Brewery, a Target, the shops and restaurants along Alii Drive. We found gorgeous beaches north of the airport, ate lunch on our travels at a different place each day. Fabulous fresh fish and ambiance at every location. The higher elevation gave us cooler temperatures. The pool was luxuriously warm. The fresh fruit in your gardens were a daily joy and such fun to pick! The home was spotless when we arrived. Thanks for the beach chairs and umbrellas and pool towels. All of your home's amenities made it truly a home away from home. Breakfast each morning on the lanai was a fabulous way to start each day. We drove the entire island, and like the location of your home the best!
Visit nearby Makalei Golf Club, which is just 5 minutes from the house! It features 18 holes on a championship course. It's affordable and was voted Best Course in West Hawaii in 2009. Other activities include: stand-up surfing, canoeing, luauing, sunset cruising, island helicopter rides, volcano tours.
