Perfect setting - thanks you for sharing your beautiful cottage - the deck, grill, boats & everything that was provided in your home! By far the best dock on the lake! We enjoyed every minute of spending time with our children.
A total of six of us rented this house for our annual fishing trip. Very secluded, which we like so we don't disturb the neighbors with out noisy fireside revelry. The lake itself was VERY quiet. We saw a few people on it the whole four days. It was fun paddling around in the rowboat looking for turtles and fishing. This lake has steep drops around much of the shoreline leading to good fishing spots.
Lots of panfish right off the dock. You can catch as many as you want, though they're small.
Five beds plus a fold out couch...not bad at all. They have some sweet elk heads n the walls and a bear in the basement. If dead animals freak you out, don't go here.
Gas stove, which we liked for frying up the fish we caught over on Big Bass lake. There is a good bait shop run by a nice Amish fellow near Big Bass lake that has many types of minnows. The property manager of this place also rented us a pontoon boat on big bass lake.
Just returned form a wonderful week-end. The location was great, we loved the seclusion. Beautiful views from the deck. The kids (10 and 13) loved the lake and the boat provided with the house. House was very clean and well equipped to make you feel at home. We would definitely go back and we would highly recommend it.
Our family rents this cottage or the farmhouse next door every July and we also rent in October as well. The lake is very clean and the view from the deck is great. It's a wonderful getaway and a great location to go on day trips. We also go kayaking on the Green River or Pere Marquette. We also find both cottages are very clean and welcoming, thanks to Rose Smith. It's a pleasure to deal with her.
The cottage was decent, however considering the quality of the construction (which was very good) we were a little surprised at the lack of cleanliness and attention to detail. The master bedroom bed has a deep valley and is not at all comfortable; the master bath STILL needs a lighter colored shower curtain in order to actually SEE when using the shower; the dishes and cabinets need a thorough scrubbing; the furniture needs vacuuming, we dropped a throw pillow from the 2nd floor landing onto the couch and a huge cloud of dust flew up! The paddle boats were not operable. The ceiling fan was not operable, and while we were offered additional fans, the ceiling fan also provided the main lighting for the kitchen/dining area and therefore presented a problem. The upstairs bedroom was listed as a queen and a double, but is actually a double and a single. The walkout basement provides just a bathroom and the laundry room, not any sort of "living" area; the indoor/outdoor kennel, which was a big seller for us, was blocked off and being used as storage on the inside. The lake isn't very swimmable, but nice enough for fishing and viewing! Also, there is alot of "clean up" required upon vacating the property particularly since we had to be out by 10 a.m. The positives were that we could have our dogs, the location was nice and quiet, albeit remote and the Smith's were very nice people to deal with. Also, just as a warning: if one was animal-friendly, one might be a little taken aback at the MANY "trophies" hanging on the walls and on display...we have never seen so many dead animals in one place! While we aren't opposed to hunting, some people may be shocked.
Our family enjoyed our stay very much. The house is clean and modern with lots of room for everyone. Love the huge patio doors onto the wrap-around deck. Wonderful view. If I had to note anything slightly negative, it would be that it would be nice to have a swim raft closer to the dock. The one shared with the neighbours is quite far away and it would be impossible to keep an eye on younger swimmers. Other than that, no suggestions. You've got it right. Thanks for all your help, too, Rose. We would definitely return.
P.S. I guess you can tell by our spelling (neighbours) that we're Canadians. lol
We had an amazing time! The house was beautiful, clean, and comfy. Loved the deck and the seclusion. Absolutely we would go back, we think it would be pretty seeing the fall colors there. We were close enough to attractions yet far enough away to enjoy the solitude. Kitchen was well stocked and all appliances worked great. Loved the grill! We would definitely recommend this property to others. On a side note, there were a few things we noticed. We did not see any smoke detectors in the home. Shower curtain made it very dark in the shower. (maybe a lighter one?) Also, there was no place to put the garbage when we needed to take it out. We had to wait until the neighbors put the can at the curb on their property. (maybe a can on the property?)
