We welcome you to Hacienda San Fernando. Our property is uniquely situated on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Hacienda San Fernando is made up of thirty acres of both cleared fields and jungle areas. Numerous fruit trees including oranges, lemons, pineapples, bananas, papayas and avocados can be found on the property and available to renters. Our gated driveway is nearly one-half mile long.
There are four homes on the property which all overlook the ocean. The three bedroom, two bathroom main house is situated on the very top of the property. In the main house, all of the bedrooms, the living room, the dining room and the kitchen face the Pacific Ocean. The large living room has six french doors that open up on to the deep-water kidney-shaped pool.
One of the guesthouses has two bedrooms and one bathroom. The other guesthouse has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and large outdoor deck. The main house and guesthouses are all air conditioned. The fourth house is used by our caretaker and his wife.
The sunset views over the Pacific from the veranda are truly breathtaking. Views of Playa Carrillo, Playa Samara, Playa Buena Vista and Playa Barrigona can be seen from the property. The sense of quiet and peace on the property is very calming. Sunsets may also be enjoyed from the pool or from the twelve person jacuzzi which overlooks the ocean.
The property is a nature lover's paradise. Expect daily visits from monkeys, parakeets, iguanas, armadillos and toucans.
Our caretaker, Freddy, and his wife, Luisa, live in a home on the property (far away from the main house) and are very helpful. Daily laundry service and maintenance of the home is included.
Samara is a charming village with natural beauty. The town of Samara and its surrounding area offer a large variety of plants and the shelter of a coral reef offshore. The area is an excellent vacation spot with ocean and river kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, horseback riding, boat tours, fishing, canopy tours and ultralight flights all within minutes of the property. The local restaurants are excellent and serve a range of cuisines including native Costa Rican foods, fish, Italian, barbeque and more.

My wife and I visited Samara, Costa Rica during our honeymoon in 1996. We met a local Samara resident who explained that his family was selling some undeveloped property. Just before sunset one evening we climbed to the top of the property for sale and watched a beautiful sunset over the ocean. Later that evening we negotiated the purchase of the property while eating fresh ceviche.
After returning to the U.S. we retained an attorney from San Jose who was recommended by the U. S. Embassy and soon closed on the property. After hiring an architect and sending plans back and forth between the U.S. and Costa Rica we figured out a design for the main house. Nine months later the main house and pool were constructed.
Over the years since the initial construction we have purchased additional surrounding property and now have thirty acres. In addition to the main house, the property now consists of two guesthouses, a caretaker's home and a detached garage.
Our children have thoroughly enjoyed all that our home and Samara has to offer. They have become accomplished surfers and we have all become tropical nature enthusiasts.
