I'm pleased you are here to enjoy the house I built. I'm proud of it. The income I make by renting to you allows me to take art courses and to take time to create the art that bring me so much joy so Thank you.
I work but I'm around to help you with questions as you need.
I live in basement apartment in the house. I can not see into any windows or onto your private patio so your privacy is assured. My apartment is under the second bedroom part of the house only and a thick rug in that room buffers any sound. The Only place you might see me is the parking area. You may contact me by phone or email if I can help you with anything during you stay or we could schedule a time to visit. If you prefer I am not at the house during your stay let me know. I have another place I can stay.

I found Orcas Island,WA. in 1990. I had never been to Washington State, let alone the San Juan Islands. I knew I had found home with in 15 minutes of driving off the ferry. This place feeds my artistic spirit and creative side.
I have worked toward my goal of buying property on Orcas Island and building my own place since then.
I started building in 2003. I was my own General Manager of this project. The professionals put in the parts that are controlled by building requirements to met code, like power, water, framing the house, etc.
After that is when the hands on part of the job was all mine. I put in all the slate flooring, wood trim, siding, painting, cupboards, sinks, tubs, slate shower hall, stone patio, etc. I could write a book with all that took place.
The house turned out lovely, if I do say so myself, and you can't beat the views.
I have not had one negative piece of feed-back about the house since I started renting it.
I want you to enjoy this piece of paradise as much as I do.
Thank you for your interest.
The Owner purchased this house in 2003
This Island offered the clean air and lush green landscape that has always been important to my comfort in a place. I need tall trees, natural settings, wild animals and birds as part of my daily life. The ocean being near-by and viewable daily, around nearly every corner I turn or hill I drive over, is a blessing I don't take for-granted. The views of the awesome mountains were a plus, and now I can't think of life without them to gaze at.
The fact that there are no traffic jambs or stop lights have to be listed as a plus too.
The peace and serenity you feel sitting on the patio with the sight of the Cascade Mountains and the Georgia Strait right there. Flowers blooming all around and birds to watch as their songs fill the air. The quiet of living on a 3 acre piece of paradise, on a private road, with no through traffic or city noises. Not another house in sight.
If the weather is overcast or if it has snowed and all is covered, it still feels bright in the Great Room, due to the huge ski-lite over the peak of the roof. The heated slate floors with rich, bold colors feel warm to my bare feet in the winter, and cool when I take feet out of my hot shoes in the summer.
So many things like this are what makes my home special to me, and to you too if you want.
Donna, Thank you so much for such a wonderful place to stay. We loved using your well stocked kitchen
and travelling about this beautiful island. We even enjoyed your VHS collection.
Once again, thanks!
Ah....honestly, we have not stopped talking about our wonderful stay at Delongview. We had four glorious days and nights over mid-winter break at this special getaway. We were blessed with the mild winter days, which also led to starlit nights we were able to enjoy from the comfort of the sofa while gazing out the enormous skylight. Nearly everything you could need is in the house, and if you cannot find it it 1) you have not looked hard enough or, 2) you will find something else that will be a fine substitute. The only exception is if you are traveling with small children, you will want to bring your own equipment and entertainment for them. The movie, game, and book selection is definitely geared for adults, but we were prepared and brought what we needed. As it turns out, the kids ended up chasing each other around in circles in the large great room and kept themselves entertained for many hours doing so! It was a great set up because we could keep an eye on them while still relaxing or while making our meals. The slate floors were definitely very efficient at heating the house - as some have stated almost too efficient, but it also enabled us to just open the doors and let in the fresh air. I have debated whether to suggest an upgrade to the electronics as the TV, while indeed has a flat screen, is not a flat screen TV, and is rather dated. However, the point of spending time at a home like this is that you get away from the electronics. Instead we listened to music on the CD player - had dance parties, and enjoyed our time together without everyone staring at the TV. The wi-fi worked great There was a good selection of books and puzzles for adults. The house was nearly immaculate and I felt comfortable just settling right in without worry that the house needed cleaning. The trees have grown some since the photos were taken, so the water views were not as expansive as the photos seem to indicate, but this did not inhibit the magnificent sunrises from every room in the house. My only complaint is actually my own fault in that I waited until our second night to try out the tub, thus delaying by a day my full relaxation. All I can say is ahhhhhhhhh!!!!! Now I want one too! Caution though - all you need is one or two squirts of the bath gel for MORE than an ample amount of bubbles! Many thanks to Donna for sharing her wonderful home with all it's comforts and special touches. We hope to return sometime soon!
The home was nicely decorated, comfortable and had everything in the kitchen that you could ever need! The location was beautiful and we enjoyed our time there very much.
Please be aware that although the description indicates two televisions, there is no television reception! Evidently, the televisions can only be used for playing DVD's. That is the reason for the 4 star review, instead of a 5 star review.
This is a beautiful, clean house in a lovely, quiet setting. It is very tastefully decorated and filled with amenities, such as the fully-stocked kitchen. Wonderful patio. Good king-size bed. Only reasons for 4 stars (would have given 4-1/2) is that the temperature of the heated floors is regulated by the owner and was much too hot, especially for sleeping. We had to keep the French doors open. Also, we had problems with the VCR and stereo and the owner took two days to respond. Once she did, she came over and tried to correct the problems. All in all, recommended.
Our stay here was wonderful from the very beginning when I contacted the owner, Donna, to reserve a few nights for our stay here. She was so helpful telling me about the home, the island, and even sent us a schedule and told us how the Ferry worked (being from Texas, we were not familiar with this at all). We were traveling with two adult couples. We arrived at the house and found it even more beautiful than pictures. It is away from other homes, and the road does not have much traffic. The house is lovely and up to date. The kitchen had all the comforts of home, and we were told to feel free to use anything there.
The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. When sitting in the den, you felt like you were outside with the large windows, and huge skylight. So much natural light.
The back porch was a favorite place morning and night. This is not "on the water", but we knew that already. We couldn't see the large mountains across the water that show in the picture (maybe too foggy?) but loved the tall trees, the water, and quietness of the area. We enjoyed the fire pit, and grilled steaks one night. (The grill was having a hard time heating so had to finish it inside. We forgot to mention this to the owner so it's not her fault if she doesn't know.) The stars were like diamonds in the clear night sky.
On the island we did a little shopping, went to the State Park, and hiked a little. It was all wonderful and very relaxing.
I would highly recommend this home to anyone coming to the island that is looking to relax. Just wish we lived closer so I could spend weekends there.
Thank you so much Donna for all you did to make our trip so memorable.
The Daniells' and Springers'
We joined another couple for a week at this lovely home, which they had rented from Donna. It was everything advertised, and more (though the pictures of the view are zooms--still, the view is great). The house comes with everything you need--beautiful bedroom accommodations, fully-stocked gourmet kitchen where we cooked fabulous salmon, an outdoor patio overlooking Rosario sound with barbecue and firepit (we made 'smores on two occasions). The locations is tranquil, and about 15 minutes from Eastsound. This is a special get-away home ideal for couples.
We had a wonderful stay at Donna's house over the Memorial Weekend. The house was fully stocked with everything one would need. The radiant heating in the floors made the house nice and warm, which was especially nice on the cold stormy nights that sometimes occur on the islands. The patio was delightful, especially with the portable firepit and lounge chairs. The mountain views and privacy were everything we hoped for, and the house was less than 10 minutes away from town. All in all, a solid 5-star experience.
