Waikiki Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-3)

ALOHA, Welcome to our Waikiki beachfront condominium paradise at the Ilikai.

PLEASE CLICK ON 'VIDEO' BETWEEN 'PHOTOS' AND 'MAP' TO SEE A VIRTUAL TOUR OF UNIT # 1738- A BEAUTIFUL UNIT WITH A FANTASTIC VIEW.

Just steps from the beach of Waikiki, the Ilikai is the beachfront hotel that made ‘Hawaii 50’ famous. Our one bedroom condo was remodeled in 2007, 2013 and 2015 with full interior decorator tile floor and features a queen size bed, a sofa bed convertible into a queen size bed, fully equipped kitchen with kitchenware, dining area, living room, large screen cable tv and dvd player, high-speed internet access, upgraded bathroom and generous closet. The view from our lanai balcony is incredible – ocean and lagoon view – fireworks on Friday night.

The Ilikai is conveniently located within easy walking distance of the Ala Moana shopping center mall [which features the Foodland grocery store], Ala Moana Beach Park, the Hawaii Convention Center and the many hotels, restaurants and shops of central Waikiki. The Ilikai is literally steps from the beach and includes a shared pool, bellman and valet service and the famous “Top of the I” gourmet restaurant on the 25th floor, accessible by a separate and private elevator, with fantastic views.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village next door has the same beach and ocean front but they charge $300 - $600 per night and many of those rooms do not have an ocean view or a kitchen. Our condo is less than half the price of the Hilton Hawaiian Village and includes a kitchen which can save you hundreds of dollars if you decide to eat in.

NOTE; All rentals require 20% down payment and final payment 14 days before arrival

Our 17th floor incredible view welcomes you to become a member of our extended family ‘ohana’, to stay with us now and many times in the future. You will experience clear blue turquoise views of the lagoon and ocean during the days, gorgeous sunsets at sundown and beautiful ‘New York’ city skylines at night. We are the best Ilikai vacation rental condo value for the money. Send us an inquiry on VRBO, you will be happy you did.

Would not recomend this unit

  • 1 of 5

Arrival was ok. Check in was easy. Parking next door in ilikai marina was easy (20/day). When we opened the door to. Unit we immediately smelled that "mildew" smell. Yuck! We opened the windows, the view is nice and as advertised. After about 5 minutes my wife asked what happened to my feet, haha they were totally black from the incredibly dirty floors! We spent the next hour mopping the floors so we felt comfortable walking on them without shoes. We were laughing while doing this after paying these high "cleaning fees". The unit is very dated and "old" feeling. The bed squeeks, the couch is dirty and has big stains on it. I think everything would have been acceptable if it didn't smell so bad and was more clean, but not acceptable for this price point.

I couldn't figure out where the smell is coming from. I did notice the ac is very dirty so maybe it is from that. I noticed the unit vents in the kitchen and bathroom have plexiglass covers over them. There is no fan in the bathroom, etc... After a day inside you get used to the smell, then when you go out and come back the smell hits you in the face again.

Needless to say we won't be back to this unit. The rest of the hotel seemed fine as far as we could tell but we didn't see any other units.

Owner's Response: You are CORRECT and you are NOT CORRECT. There WAS a smell in the unit. Teresa Nelson, my on-site manager found the source of the smell to be in the "Owner Locked Cabinet". The "Owner Locked Cabinet" had not been opened in over a year. I sent the "Owner Locked Cabinet" key to Teresa and, between rentals, Teresa and her housekeeping staff threw away the contents of the "Owner Locked Cabinet" and cleaned the "Owner Locked Cabinet" so the smell issue was resolved. THIS SMELL PROBLEM WILL NOT RE-OCCUR. You are INCORRECT regarding the tile floor. The unit is always thoroughly cleaned, at a cost of $115.18 per rental, including the tile floor, the shower, the kitchen, etc. The bed linen and towels are cleaned. If you had an issue with the tile floor or the cleanliness of the unit, you should have called Teres at 808-946-0716 or gone to her office on the Ilikai first floor. Please contact Teresa with any issues regarding my unit. There is no need to resolve unit issues yourself, that is why Teresa is there. Since the smell issue is resolved, my Ilikai Unit # 1738 remains a wonderful unit with a fabulous view at a very reasonable nightly rate. To further enhance my unit, the unit will be re-painted soon and the futon couch will be replaced by a sofa bed couch. The kitchen is dated but fully functional, featuring a large microwave, a full refrigerator, a new stove with oven, dishwasher and lots of cabinet space. All kitchen utensils, tools and dishes are in the unit. I have added beach towels [available from Teresa] and Teresa has agreed to supply other kitchen supplies upon request. The kitchen is dated and should be remodeled - a substantial expense for the future. My unit # 1738 is very comfortable, functional and beautiful. Please call Teresa 808-946-0716 or call me 949-244-8585 with any concerns. You can also visit Teresa at her office on the Ilikai first floor. My Unit # 1738 is perfect for me and my wife - and perfect for guests. The view from the 17th floor is fabulous, the beach front location is outstanding [right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Resort] and the Ilikai is perfectly located between Waikiki on the one side and the Ala Moana Park and the Ala Moana Shopping Center on the other side. With such a perfect location [lagoon and beachfront view], with the smell issue resolved, and with such a fabulous 17th floor view, my Unit # 1738 is again perfect for your vacation at a very reasonable rate, the best rate for beachfront Waikiki.

Different Strokes for Different Folks

  • 4 of 5

The trouble with reviews is that we are all different....and it's impossible to please everyone. Most reviews of this property are very positive and for the most part, accurate. The rare, scathing review, seemed overly harsh, as these issues didn't bother us as much.

The condo is definitely 'dated'...but clean. There have been some renovations. There is a slight musty, older smell in the condo, which you quickly get used to.

The Ilikai is now surrounded by other high-rises, so while there is a great view of the Hilton lagoon and the beach...it's a partial view. Overlooking the Sunday to Thursday luau next-door is fun. The view of the Friday-night fireworks from the lanai of this condo is spectacular.

Ilikai 'one-bedroom' condos are really 'studios'...with the bed off the living-room. We liked the louvered-divider separating the two, a feature not found in all the condos.

Regarding supplies, some things were provided, some weren't. [Examples would be beach towels and toys, dish and dishwasher detergents, dish towels, and small things like paper towels.] I suppose it's not essential that these items be supplied, but after having them in other VRBOs, it's disappointing when they're missing.

We certainly enjoyed our stay in 1738, in spite of these few minor issues.

This condo owner is very nice and responsive....and the management company in the building is very pleasant.

No pride of ownership

  • 2 of 5

I have to share how disappointed we were with this condo. I guess newer tile floor and shower is considered "remodeled" by some, but not by us. This condo is extremely dated. In fact, I am sure the kitchen is the original from when the Ilikai was built in 1963/64. Plywood cabinets in much need of paint lined with contact paper. Formica countertops, mismatched appliances. When the floors were changed to tile, the new moldings are not as high up the walls as the old ones. There is a build of old paint where the old moldings came to that should have been sanded down and painted over. Looks horrible. There is no fan or window in the bathroom, and as a result, the peeling paint looks terrible. There is about a 4 inch gap between the wall and the bathroom vanity that is dripping with yellow "sweat" from the lack of ventilation. The shower door is VERY difficult to open and close. There also appears to be water damage to the ceiling just above the air conditioner that looks like they have attempted to conceal with paint. The entire unit needs to be thoroughly cleaned and painted. The furniture was very dated and dirty. Sticky rings of something all over the dining table. The white futon cover is very stained and dirty. Our check in instructions told us we were to was the dishes before leaving, and while there is a dishwasher, no detergent is provided. The 2 sponges left for washing dishes were disgusting. I bought a new one. There are no kitchen towels, not even paper towels provided, and no beach towels provided. We much prefer ocean swimming to pool swimming, so were forced to use the white bath towels provided at the beach. The kitchen was so dated and creepy, we didn't even use it. We rented a condo with a kitchen because my husband is on a very restricted diet and it is difficult to find a place where he can eat out, especially 3 times a day. We had friends staying in a condo in central Waikiki that let us cook in their condo. I am sure that the moldy AC vents that the previous guest were referring to are the vents in the shower and kitchen that have been blocked off with some kind of a clear cover and are all dirty and moldy inside. They obviously are no longer functional, but are gross looking. If you are looking for the comforts of home, look elsewhere. There are MANY similar units in this building that have true renovations completed for the same or close to the same price. The only redeeming factor that warranted the fair rating is the view.

Owner's Response: 9/11/14 YES, I have Pride of Ownership. Unit # 1738 is wonderful and has an incredible daytime view of the ocean & lagoon & a New York skyline view at night & fireworks on Friday night. I am very upset. The guest NEVER contacted my on-site manager OR me during their 5 night stay. They waited for 8 days to file this review. When I received this review on 9/9, I immediately forwarded it to my on-site manager for response. She wrote "Your e-mail is the first I've heard of these issues. This comes as a surprise to me that you have received such a negative review from this one guest. After researching the matter with my manager, we have noticed that there have not been any reports from other guests to confirm what this person is complaining about. There were 2 previous and 2 guests thereafter and we have no reports of any issues from them. This guest arrived on 8/27/14 and checked out on 9/01/14, a stay of 5 nights. During this time we do not have any reports from them in regard to issues they were having with the unit. If a guest was to report an issue to us, MHV would address the issue right away. We pre-inspected the unit prior to this guest's arrival and found no discrepancies. We take cleaning issues very seriously. It is Marina Hawaii Vacations policy that we do not supply the following items: dishwasher detergent, dish sponges, kitchen towels, beach towels. Futon Sofa Bed: upon inspection, found it was clean. Dining Table: upon inspection, found it was clean. I will make a work order for the following: bathroom shower door - to clean and lubricate, address peeling paint, address gap between toilet and vanity. The guest checked out on 9/1/14 and I received the review report on 9/9/14. The guest gave a rating of 2 out of 5. If the guest was so disappointed, why did they give such a fair rating ? Manager 9/10/14". I have owned Unit # 1738 since 2006. I have spent a lot of money on upgrades which directly benefit my guests [new tile floor, new tile shower, new bathroom vanity, new window coverings, new kitchen stove, new queen bed, new futon, new microwave, new living room hutch, new sony TV,etc]. As long as the kitchen is functional, I felt the expensive replacement of kitchen cabinets & countertops with granite & unit re-painting could be delayed so I could afford it. The vents in the bathroom & kitchen are the vents running through the entire building and belong to the Ilikai, not me - my air conditioning unit is on the outside of the balcony.

Great location with beautiful views

  • 2 of 5

My husband and I just got back from staying at this condo for a week. Just as you see in the pictures the views of the beach/lagoon from the lanai are absolutely gorgeous. There is a parking garage just a minute walk away around the corner which was very convenient and slightly cheaper than the valet at the hotel which was nice. The kitchen was a little outdated but had all the essentials so it was fine. The best part of the condo that i enjoyed was to be able to sit on the lanai and enjoy the luau show and the fireworks show on Friday night.

What I was extremely disappointed in was the condition of the AC unit and the management of this property. From the very first moment i walked into this condo there was a very strong musty stench that was throughout the whole unit including the kitchen and bathroom which made it very uncomfortable to breathe. Since office was already closed we had to run out and buy some air fresheners to be able to breathe and notified management first thing in the morning. Sadly, due to unconcerned management and their inability to follow through with their word and resolve this issue of cleaning the MOLD/MILDEW in the AC VENTS we spent our whole week coming back to a place that smelled disgusting. Bottom line, the issue was never resolved during our visit. The AC unit vent was FILLED with visible black mold that could trigger potential health risks and clearly needed a thorough cleaning. Upon returning home from our vacation we contacted the owner directly of this issue and was very apologetic for the discomfort we had faced while staying there. Owner agreed to have the ac unit inspected and cleaned as necessary which will hopefully resolve the issue for future vacationers.

If you do decide to stay at this condo and come across any issues I would definitely recommend contacting the owner directly instead of dealing with inadequate management.

Owner's Response: 8/9/14 Boy, in all my 8 years owning my Ilikai condo, I have NEVER had a less than excellent guest review. After my guests flew home, they did contact me regarding their issue with the air conditioning. The air conditioning unit is located in the wall of the balcony [lanaii]. There is a lot of humidity in Waikiki during the summer, which accounts for the smell. I have never had a complaint about the air conditioner, which is about 2 years old. My wife and I stay in the condo and have never had an issue with the air conditioner. Moreover, during the 8 years that I have owned this condo, no other guests have ever had an issue with the air conditioner, either the old air conditioner or the new [2 years old] air conditioner. When my guests contacted my on site manager, she called me and let me know about the air conditioner issue. I told her to do whatever it would take to satisfy my guests. My onsite manager called housekeepong and maintenance and asked them to do everything possible to satisfy my guests. Apparently, whatever housekeeping and maintenance did was not sufficient to satisfy my guests. I am told that the air conditioner filter may have been dirty and was cleaned. I apologized to my guests for their issue and indicated that when they decide to come back to Waikiki for a vacation, they should call me directly and I would move heaven and earth to make sure that their vacation was perfect. Since the air conditioner issue has now been resolved, my condo # 1738 is again wonderful. Interestingly, this week I was told that two hurricanes are due in the Hawaiian Islands. When I heard about the hurricanes, I immediately called my on site manager who gave me the telephone number of the guests currently in my condo. I then called my guests and, after making sure that they were prepared for the inclement weather, offered my help if they encountered any problems with the condo.I gave them my personal cell phone number and told them that I stand ready to assist them in any way I can. As you can see, I am very proud of my Ilikai condo # 1738 and I am very devoted to my guests. If any future guests encounter any issues with my condo that can be corrected and resolved, please call my on site manager, let her know about the issue and, at the same time, also ask for my personal cell phone number. Besides telling my on site manager about the issue, be sure to call me so I can help get the condo issue resolved.

Great location and facilities

  • 5 of 5

When we first arrived we both felt the condo was a little small and dated. But as the days went by, we started to appreciate everything it had to offer, more and more.

The kitchen is quite small but it has everything you need - a good fridge, stove and microwave and all the cooking and food prep items. The bathroom is a good size with a nice shower. There is a dining room table which some of the condos that have had their kitchens renovated do not have. There is a small living room with a TV, which we did not even turn on.

One of the best features was a retractable wall you can pull across to separate the bedroom from the rest of the condo so someone can still be sleeping and others can have the lights on in other locations.

The best feature is the lanai which has a table and four comfortable chairs that can all be positioned to view the lagoon and ocean. We spent a great deal of time out there and thus had no need for the TV. There is so much activity going on to watch and there is always a beautiful breeze. You can also open up the patio doors wide and make the lanai a part of the indoor living space.

Overall, this condo has a lot to offer and it is just steps away from Waikiki Beach.

The Ilikai offers valet parking (they do a terrific job), a few shops for necessities, and a nice swimming pool (great attendants). Also, the Hilton next door has a huge shopping area on their bottom floor which my wife loved.

HIDDEN TREASURE CONDO, PERFECT PRICE & LOCATION

  • 5 of 5

Holidayed in early NOV 2013 my husband and myself (Australians) both under 30 and found this condo to be absolutely perfect. I dont usually leave reviews but had to praise this accomodation just because I would like others to experience what we did. The view is exactly what you see in the pictures. Fireworks from our balcony every Friday night. You can watch the Hilton's Luau from the lanai thats how close you are to it all. 10 mins walking to Ala Moana Centre with bus stop direct in front of hotel if needed. Beautiful beach walk in the other direction towards Waikiki central. Washer + dryer on our floor, all accomodations perfect apart from one negative which was the curtains allow the morning sun in and you cannot get a sleep in, but figured if your on holiday you really should be up and exploring. For the price we were quoted at other places with no beach views etc this place is a hidden gem. Use of all facilities incl pool, lagoon pool etc. To sum it up this place was great and would reccommend to anybody of any age to stay. The owner was easy to deal with, no problems whatsoever.
