Hale Nalo is a heavenly anti-Waikiki! If you're a solo or couple looking for a quiet, peaceful, lush, comfortable, safe lodging on Oahu, this is a marvelous place at a great price. Stylish, modern, elegantly spare, and comfortable, it's two houses from a secluded stretch of Waimanalo Beach. Seriously, if you spot more than two people on this beach, consider it "rush hour." My visit fell during the hottest dog-days of summer, and the silent ceiling fan and breezes from the nearby ocean kept me cool enough. You awaken each day to a tropical bird jam-session and fall asleep each night to the sounds of rolling waves and palm fronds stirred by the breeze. Sublime. A lounge area outside the studios has convenient guidebooks and maps, and your hostess, Herlinda, is gracious, accommodating, and eager to acquaint visitors with the best of island secrets. You're 10 minutes away from great food and shopping in Kailua, 10 minutes away from Hanauma Bay, and 15 minutes away from Hawaii Kai shopping.
