We reside in a unique neighborhood in San Rafael, CA that is almost right on the bay of San Pablo for your morning walks or if you bring your kayak you can walk to the Bay to put out.
You can also see the boat masts from the living room window as you sit back and enjoy the bay view. Our quiet, scenic neighborhood offers an opportunity to relax and kick back after a day of visiting the city of San Francisco or the nearby wine country.
Our close proximity to the town of San Rafael(3 miles) is also easy for you to enjoy the variety of restaurants we have there and attend an amazing concert or view first run movies.
County details: Beautiful Marin County is home to some of the most amazing fresh fruit and vegetables available. There are weekly farmer's markets and in the summer, on Thursday nights, the main street of San Rafael hosts a farmer's market as well as entertainment. The world famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright built his final building in San Rafael. It is home to the county offices. We also have a famous mission that is part of the California Missions Trail which reflects early California history.
We are also near Marin General Hospital as well as Dominican College for those who might have short term jobs at those places as well as Autodesk and Fair Issac.
Weather: The weather in San Rafael is mostly temperate year round except for the winter rains which help our ground water supply. The surrounding hillsides reflect the winter moisture in the Spring when they are covered in lupines as well as the well known mustard flowers. Our rental is so close to the Bay that we get the cool breezes in the summer and more temperate weather in the winter.
Scenery: Because we are located on the Bay of San Pablo, there are times you can see art students with their easels up and painting the incredible views of the bay very near our home. Mount Tam can also be viewed from outside the guest suite and affords many hiking trails and incredible views from many vistas.
We came up to Marin County in 1991 and fell in love with its beauty. Both of us have been in the film and television industry and
where Paul decided to retire, Elise continued to travel to Los Angeles and work on different film and television projects. We both are semi retired now and love to travel as well as welcome those to our lovely area that are fellow travelers.

This area of our rental is truly unique. It is on the Bay side of a quaint area called 'Chicken Point' - perhaps because there might have been people raising chickens - which is a common happening here!- It is not far from central San Rafael and yet it feels rural enough to enjoy walks up in the hills and around the Bay.
The style of our rental is a bit of New England. We have temperate weather due to the proximity of the Bay and since we are near a little beach, it is easy to put out a kayak or stand up paddle board.
Our stay was wonderful. Elise and Paul have made this apartment a peaceful retreat - very well thought out, quiet, clean and the water sounds out our bedroom window were delightful...
San Rafael and San FRan and Elise and Paul will truly be out home away. We now leave for Oregon, back to some rain. We will miss our small space with a great view and the warm sun.

My best friend and I were looking for our "girls weekend" location and we found the perfect place. This is the most charming location we have been to, it is comfortable a bit small but incredibly spacious. The decor was brilliant it made a big difference in the atmosphere with plenty of windows to admire the surroundings - we thought the walk-in closet/changing room was a nice touch. The location was perfect to explore Sausalito, Sonoma and Napa – we did all that and in the evenings returned to our retreat to enjoy a nice bottle of wine. This was a great get away location and we definitely plan on returning.

My husband and I loved staying in your guest suite, even though we mainly used the place for the evening hours. We were in town for a family get together and spent most of our time with family. Your suite was very clean, comfortable, and cozy in a great centralized location. I highly recommend staying there and hope to be back one of these days. I especially enjoyed meeting the both of you. We really enjoyed staying at your apartment, very cozy place to escape from our busy schedule. This apartment has everything one needs and is a great value. Great shower and very cute bathroom. Bedroom has a hugh walk-in closet, the bed is very comfortable! I own three properties and rent all of them on vrbo.com. I highly recommend staying at this apartment, beats any hotel in the bay area.
My husband and I were looking for somewhere to stay that would be close to Napa, and the San Francisco Bay area without having to drive too far. Paul and Elise's place was perfect! It's beautiful, and quiet, and you don't have to drive too far to get to it. We would go do our sightseeing during the day and come back to the peacefulness of this rental to unwind and plan our next day. We found 2 of our day trips just by looking at all of the brochures in the living room that are thoughtfully provided. Andy's local store is an easy walk up the street, as is the beach access. If we ever come back this direction, we would definately stay here again. Thank you Paul and Elise for making our first experience with Home Away a great one, we are already looking on the Home Away website for a future getaway.
The apartment was very clean and comfortable, with a nice grocery store within walking distance. The garden was a secluded relaxation space. We spent several days hiking at the various parks in the area, and enjoyed coming back to a nice evening in the apartment. Great value.
Our quiet, scenic neighborhood feels as if you are in a peaceful, semi rural area. We are close to a boat harbor as well as a small beach where you can launch canoes or kayaks. Our East San Rafael property is also surrounded by open land where you can hike, mountain bike or just enjoy walking around the bay. We are also near historic China Camp and McNears Beach picnicking site. If you want to get some small town feel, we are 2.5 miles away from the downtown area of San Rafael which has a restored, historic mission as well as cute shops and many restaurants. There is also a restored movie theatre that plays a significant role in the Mill Valley Film Festival.
Our property is a jumping off point for visiting the city of San Francisco, the wine counties of Napa and Sonoma, the lovely coastal route from Stinson Beach to Point Reyes and beyond to Bodega Bay. All could be done in day travel.
A wonderful market, Andy's, is within walking distance to our flat.
Other Activities: We have had golfers, kayakers, hikers, sailers, and a myriad or those who enjoy the outdoors. We are very close to the Peacock Gap Country Club which does have day rates as well as McGuinnis Parkway Golf Center for those who just want to hit some balls or play a full round of golf.
Golf: We are near Peacock Gap Country Club and Spa. Normal fees apply. McGuiness Park, which is also a golf course is a bit further up the highway.
Ski: We are 3.5 hours from Truckee and Lake Tahoe ski resort.
