About Daniel Whitney

I was born in upper state N.Y. and moved to Fort Lauderdale florida when I was 11 years old where I graduated high school and got into the flooring installation business for 28 years,I moved to Orlando in 1983 continued flooring, opened a bicycle shop in 1992 , it's my passion to ride a bicycle and have been for 30 years. I enjoy riding my bike at home and in the mountains, I went to the Tour D France 3 times and rode all the mountains the pro's ride with friends and i am working still in the bicycle industry part time, I also have a motorcycle and have traveled the USA on it a couple of times and take it to my cabin to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway as often as possible. I love to be at my cabin with family or friends and in the mountains. I enjoy everything outdoors and on 2 wheels like cycling or riding a motorcycle, kayaking or hiking is always peaceful and quiet in the Beauty of nature and wildlife. Living in orlando the change of weather every year I look forward to with the colorful foliage of Octobers leaves and the snow on the trees with no leaves in winter. I enjoy doing home projects and volunteering when i can, I would like to leave as small of a footprint on the beautiful earth God has given me so I recycle everything I see at home or the cabin and have plans to make my home green and energy efficient to get off the Electric grid soon.

Daniel Whitney purchased this cabin in 2007

Why Daniel Whitney chose Asheville

The developement was nicely located and well maintained plus only 20 minutes to a town and the Interstate and 35 to the blue ridge parkway. The developer I felt was honest when I spoke with him, my builder had years of experience building in this and another developement Fall creek land developed, I looked at 10 different cabins in areas and communities from north georgia to west virginia and rented cabins from 1200 feet to 4000 feet in elevation so 1800 is perfect, I also researched developement in N.C. and what his future plans were in this 1600 acre community as everything he said 7 years ago is complete in 2014. The community if very involved with events at the lake, pot luck dinners, bar-b-que's, ladies lunches, and a new letter with arts, crafts, farmers markets to buy locally. I now have a couple of close friends there and plan to spend months at a time in 2016 there.

What makes this cabin unique

Well maintained with great community involvement plus hiking and fishing or swimming in our lake with a gated front entrance. Easy access to I-40 for skiing or tubing in winter or water skiing in summer. Hospital 14 miles away, Great Views, Paved roads.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This Christmas was a beautiful white christmas and another look with snow on the trees without leaves. there is a 2 mile nature walk that ends at a private waterfall with benches and landscaping to enjoy the peacefull sound of water or have a picknick and just relax. the entire property outside was renovated including widing the driveway with 15 tons of new rock all around the cabin, adding plants and mulching the entire lot. 2 new flat screens too!

Excellent Week Stay at the House

  • 5 of 5
We had such a great time relaxing for the week We were so pleasantly surprised in the cleanliness of the house. It was like "home" from the minute we arrived. The kitchen had plenty of dinnerware, and supplies to get us started. We enjoyed the views of the mountains every day when we arose and definitely in the evening for the sunsets. The pictures here represent the cabin and surroundings so well. It is very open inside and nice light coming through the windows.

We had fun with the table tennis there and one day decided to have tournaments. That sure brought back memories!

We weren't able to use the fireplace due to the wrong time of the season, but sure did look inviting. The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable and noise from someone staying up later did not travel throughout the house.

We put out the corn that was available to draw the deer, etc, but we saw wild turkeys (about 10 or so) instead. It was a sight to see them in the back yard.

The brochures were very helpful in looking over to what we wanted to do for the week besides being lazy and relaxing. I would highly recommend the Courntryside BBQ in Marion. We went there one of the first nights for pulled pork and then decided to go back for the ribs another night. It is only about 20 minutes away and was the best ribs with so much meat. Make sure you go there on Tuesday, Friday, or Saturday for the ribs. If you call 3 hours ahead, they will make them for you on the other days.

I can't say enough about the owner being very communicative and pleasant to work with. Everything that we read in the description and his helpfulness in the emails prior to arriving was great.

We had 3 couples and we stayed on the top floor and the water pressure and getting hot water was fine. It was nice to have a bedroom on each floor and one bedroom on the main floor for people that can't take steps very much.

I would highly recomment this house to couples or families. With the games there, table tennis and just the beauty of the mountains, there was enough to do or just to relax.

Owner's Response: The Grandview Lodge was built to either enjoy the beauty of the mountains, a time to relax and have fun with the family or play games in the gameroom and check out some of the wild life there. I leave a bag of deer corn so you can get a picture of "bambi" but sometimes the wild turkeys show and they are a funny group to see.

Thanks You!

A Gracious Thank!

  • 5 of 5
I am sending a gracious thank you for allowing me to use your home this past weekend. My best-friend had a wonderful birthday because of your hospitality. The neighbors in your development were extremely nice and helpful. This will not be the last time I reside in your home. I will rent from you with no hesitation. Again, thank you so much for allowing me to rent your beautiful home.

With that, continue to have a wonderful and safe week!

Beautiful Cabin in a Beautiful Setting

  • 5 of 5
Our family enjoyed only two nights in this well-maintained, extremely clean, beautifully furnished cabin in a lovely gated community. It was easy to find and access. Our short stay meant we weren't able to take advantage of many nearby activities and restaurants, but the amenities in the cabin and well-stocked kitchen were more than adequate. We particularly liked that the three spacious bedrooms and adjoining baths were located on different floors...lots of privacy. Also, there was an additional half guest bath on the main floor. The listing description was accurate and the owner provided excellent customer service. Few observations to consider: the sweeping views were somewhat obstructed by beautiful large trees (maybe just this time of the year); and characteristically, sounds carry in log cabins. However, neither of these would prevent us returning to this cabin or recommending it to others. Next time we hope to stay longer!

Owner's Response: Thanks! I try to make every guest comfortable at my cabin and keep supplies, small items in the kitchen, and paper products there so they have the small things when they arrive. I would like to see you in the future!

Owner's Response: I do enjoy speaking with guests on concerns prior to there reservation and during the time they are at my cabin, I would expect everything to be nice so they enjoy a relaxing time in the mountains even if they dont leave the cabin, my developement has a great hiking trail, lake with catch and release trout fishing, swimming, or paddle your own kayak in the lake to enjoy. Guests can walk the area with the wide paved roads or bring a bike and ride as well, never seems like enough time in the Blue ridge mountains.
Thanks

BACK AGAIN AND JUST AS WONDERFUL AS I REMEMBERED IT!

  • 5 of 5
True to my wishes-I visited this delightful home away from home again. Springtime in the mountains is pleasantly cool at night and warm but not hot during the days. The cabin was just as I remembered it-clean, comfortable, organized, well stocked with startup supplies like coffee, tea, sugar, dry condiments and a variety of condiments in the refrig. At this time of year, things are blooming all around. Not all those brambling vines in the back yard are weeds-to my delight they are blackberry bushes. I cannot wait to go back to pick them and make a pie or two. It is fun to see the wildlife scampering in the underbrush-I am still waiting to spot deer; but I hear there are plenty of wild turkeys. This time we brought our bicycles for the opportunity to explore and revel in the majesty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. If you want an opportunity to exercise those legs and work out-cycling in these hills beats them all! There's nothing like spending the better part of the day exploring and coming home to lounge around on the back patio waiting for the sun to set and the moon to rise. The fans and A/C are more than adequate if the days are warm. However, when the nights are cool-turn of the A/C and enjoy the mountain air all cozied up in bed. I have visited this cabin three times and each time has been more delightful than the time before. Visiting the vineyards is a must. With the weather warming up-the lake is a marvelous place to work on your tan, play in the sand, swim or just reading a good book and getting to know the "locals". Will I go back again? You betcha and I can't wait!

Owner's Response: Thanks again! Yes it was great working with the guests, they enjoyed the cabin and the developement very much, the community always has events coming up during the year and if not the silver fork winery is just 15 minutes to drive and they have tastings and music playing on weekends for everyone. Im glad they were able to ride there bikes as the Blue Ridge parkway is beautiful or just leave the cabin and head to morganton on the back roads...
Cant wait to see them in the future!
