Photos and Description of the London vacation apartment rental Two bedrooms, 1 shower and bath, 1 toilet (separate rooms), sleeps four

Quick and easy travel to London without the expense and congestion of a central location! Our home away from home is a clean, roomy and comfortable two-bedroom flat with separate living and dining areas, a fully equipped kitchen, and high speed wireless internet access. It’s located in a quiet SE London suburb, facing a lovely park and surrounded by Victorian houses. An easy three minute walk leads to the rail station, where frequent trains take you to Victoria Station in central London in just 18 minutes. From Victoria there are extensive Underground links to virtually anywhere in the city. An inexpensive “day travelcard” pays for the round trip train ride to London and also allows unlimited travel on the Underground and on all buses.

Location: London < England

Car: not necessary
There is a large, lovely park directly across the street (see photo). Although our typical guests are focused on London, the nearby towns offer lots of vibrant, multicultural shopping and other activities. The Beckenham-Penge High Street is a 5-minute walk away. A convenience grocery store with extended hours is close by, and a large grocery store is a ten-minute walk. There are many local restaurants; almost all of them will deliver to the flat for no charge (we have an extensive collection of menus available for review, including many very good Indian and Bangladeshi restaurants). A public swimming pool is within walking distance. If you have a car, there is safe off-street parking. It's a short drive to the beautiful Kent and Surrey countryside where you can explore stately homes, castles, and country pubs. The homes of Winston Churchill (Chartwell House) and Charles Darwin (in the village of Downe) are within easy reach.

Further details for this vacation apartment rental in London, United Kingdom

Why is the price so low?: Apartments like this in the city center typically rent for two or even three times what we are charging. So why is ours so much less? Though we actually prefer living a bit outside the hassle of central London, many tourists want to be right in the thick of things. So our fees are considerably less in part to make up for the 18-minute train ride to the city. Secondly, the decor and furnishings are traditionally British, not upscale and touristy. And the common areas aren't plush--the stairs aren’t carpeted, there is no elevator, and you won't be greeted by a doorman! When we travel in Europe we always seek 'value apartments' like ours--we’re looking to rent our flat to like-minded people who appreciate a clean and comfortable place to stay as a base for exploring London but don't require upscale, luxurious accommodations.

We're one floor up: Note that the flat is on the 'first floor,' that is, one floor up from the ground level. There is no elevator so you must be prepared to walk up a flight of stairs with your luggage. We maintain a strict no-smoking policy.

Perfect London retreat

vjnv Florida, USA
Review Submitted: June 9, 2009 Date of Stay: May 2009
We stayed at this charming flat during our recent trip to London and loved everything about it! It’s located in a nice quiet neighborhood within a short train ride to Victoria station in London. We bought a 7 day travel card for zones 1-4 and enjoyed exploring London every day.
The flat is clean, cozy, and inviting, with comfortable beds, a fully-equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, and an excellent collection of tour books and maps. There’s a nice park across the street and a mini-mart and a supermarket within a short walking distance from the flat.
The owners provided a very helpful up-to-date guide to the flat and the neighborhood, with links to useful websites about attractions, tickets, transportation, etc.
We enjoyed our trip and our stay at the flat and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting London!

Inexpensive; close to London; owner is a big help

My family of three (our daughter is 10) stayed at the flat in November. For such avid London sightseeing tourists as ourselves, it was a perfect temporary home: quiet and comfortable, only 18 minutes by train to Victoria Station, a grocery store within a walking distance, detailed and helpful owner's advices, and inexpensive. Quite a rare combination for London!

Homey, Convenient, and Quiet

Anglophile Evanston, IL. USA
Review Submitted: October 30, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
I recently stayed at the flat with a family member, and our visit was very pleasant. Everything was in perfect working order--clean, orderly, and comfortable--and the building was very quiet on the nights we were there.

It truly is a short walk to the train to London but a fairly short drive to London as well. We drove into the city over the weekend but used the train on weekdays and found it quick and convenient (the train runs frequently, so if you miss one, there's usually not too long a wait for another).

On a previous trip to England, I stayed at hotels and B&Bs. I definitely preferred the experience of staying in this flat--much homier and in a residential neighborhood rather than an urban setting, so one gets a taste, however small, of life in a UK neighborhood.

I'd like to add that the flat owner was attentive and helpful. We soon came to appreciate his detailed guide to the flat and to getting around London. I highly recommend that others contemplating a visit to London consider staying at this flat.

Pictures don't do it justice!

C. G. New Braunfels, TX
Review Submitted: August 30, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We've just finished a 5-night stay in this flat and loved it! I can't imagine you could do better anywhere near London! The flat is just 5 minutes from the light rail station and you can make it into London in less than 20 minutes! Everything flows together in the flat - so if you're in the kitchen you can talk to folks in the dining area, etc- which is so handy! Another plus is that although there is only 1 bathroom, the toilet and shower are in two separate rooms, greatly increasing their usefulness.

The owner provided every possible bit of information we needed to enjoy our stay - transportation routes, stores, ATM locations, etc.

There is absolutely NO question - if we go back to London, we'll stay here!

Excellent Stay

Review Submitted: July 30, 2008 Date of Stay: May 2007
We stayed for 1.5wks at this rental in May 2007 and found everything to our satisfaction or better. It is located very close to the train station so getting into London was easy. The best part was how thorough the owner (Ken) was with providing us with detailed directions from the airport, as well as for various items around the flat. He also provided recommendations of grocery stores and restaurants in the area around the flat. We still haven't found as good of Indian food as the one place he shared. The price of the flat was excellent for us Canadians as the exchange rate to US$ was much more favourable than that of the Pound. The flat itself was clean and had everything (and more) we could need. We hope to visit London again and would definitely contact Ken to reserve his flat.
