Solta Vacation Rental : Rogac

I travelled alone to Solta in May 2008 and stayed in the lower apartment in “Morski Vuk” whilst my friends occupied the one above. Rather than take the 30 minute free coach ride from the airport to Split and then wait for an available ferry I decided to opt the quicker route by taking a speed boat direct to Solta. This only involved a five minute taxi ride from the airport to the harbour in Trogir followed by a relaxing coffee before the half hour journey direct to the island. You probably can save about 2/3 hours of journey time and feel you are arriving in style. The cost is around 100 euros for the trip one way irrespective of the number of people so can be more affordable if in a group.
When you arrive in Solta you are greeted by picturesque little harbour and immediately know this island is going to be relaxing – it doesn’t disappoint. There is one small café which overlooks the bay and is an ideal spot to stop have another coffee before the 5 minute walk up the hill to the apartment. A rather steep climb, however, you are rewarded by superb views across the bay.
The lower apartment is equipped with excellent air-conditioning and the modern double glazed doors and windows offer a high level of security although I must say this is an island where you can leave your doors unlocked all day and come home finding everything as you left it. There was constant hot water for the shower and the kitchen facilities were more than ample for my requirements. The two bedrooms consisted of a double and a twin and the lounge/dining area had plenty of room for a large circular dining table and chairs.
I preferred to cook outside using the brick built bbq or alternatively taking a 5 minute walk to the nearest restaurant - superb home cooked food and plenty of wine for £10. What a result.
I was fortunate to have friends staying at the upper apartment so was able to enjoy the use of their spacious sun terrace. It is east facing and really is a sun trap - great for early morning breakfast whilst checking out the views over the bay or even just star gazing at night.
By contrast to the tranquil nature of the harbour we were able to charter one of 5 available yachts for the day.
I cannot recommend this location enough. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway this is most certainly it. Should you feel the need for more activity you are only a cheap half hour ferry ride from the many crossings into the centre of Split.
