Serene beauty, exquisite restoration, classic PEI

As first-time (but not last) travelers to PEI, we struck gold when we found Sue and Ken Attaway's lovely Bank House in Murray River, on PEI's beautiful, friendly Southeast coast. The cottage is meticulously restored and beautifully decorated, with all new appliances, luxury linens, and no detail overlooked, from supplies provided to the cornucopia of guides and suggestions for day trips and activities.
Our favorite thing was sitting out on the front porch in the evening, watching the tranquil and picturesque Murray River a stone's throw from our front door, and taking a walk down the hill to the harbor full of lobster boats, with the village restaurant that served the best, freshest seafood chowder that we have ever had. We became regulars for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
When we weren't enjoying the home-cooking at the best little eatery on the island (with the friendliest waitresses), we got to appreciate Bank House's wonderful modern kitchen, with every appliance and utensil we could need.
With satellite TV, the Murray River at our doorstep, every room beautifully decorated, a lovely garden, and the most sumptuous beds we have ever slept in, we never wanted to leave. But the lure of PEI's wonderful golf courses, lovely coastline, historic lighthouses and easy crossing on the Wood Islands Ferry to Nova Scotia enticed us away for daily, memorable adventures. (We even snuck over to Nova Scotia on impulse overnight and did a driving tour of Cape Breton's breathtaking Cabot Trail.)
Great golf, great beauty, friendly people, wonderful food, a lovely, working fishing harbor, and the best cottage on PEI - we will always remember our first vacation in Bank House, and we will be back as soon as we can.
Sue and Ken, you were gracious, generous hosts. Your hard work in restoring Bank House to the outstanding example of the classic PEI home that it is, has created a peaceful retreat that will welcome and give pleasure to the many lucky guests that discover this gem in years to come. We came for a week, and wish we could have stayed for a summer. Thank you so much!
