THE CAPTAINS HOUSE HAS LOTS OF ROOM TO SPREAD OUT
We came up for the Arts and Crafts Festival (cake) and this house was extraordinary! (The icing on the cake). Attention to detail made our stay like visiting a well prepared relative! Thank You, Thank You.

This place has excellent Energy! Although the decor is a bit dated (1970's), nobody in our group seemed to mind. We LOVED the place. The views are incredible and it is very close to Skyline Marina. I personally stayed in the loft (I snore ;) and it was my favorite part of the house.
My ONLY cautionary note is parking in the driveway. It is extremely steep and requires a bit of mad driving skills. Especially in a big truck with 28 scuba tanks :) I would not recommend this place for anyone with mobility issues, as this place has lots of stairs and a steep landing
I recently visited Anacortes with my family and rented this house for five days. The home is in a nice neighborhood and is a short drive from downtown. The views from this house are excellent, as it's in the Skyline neighborhood of Anacortes. The house was clean and well kept. The management people are very professional and were easy to reach. I would recommend this residence to friends and family.
The residence is beautiful, especially on the main level (living room, ktchen, master suite and powder room). The setting is quiet and the view is great from the upper levels, superb from the famous Crow's Nest. Downstairs is a little dark, being below grade on two sides but it's fine for the two bedrooms and bath down there, and it has access into the garage. The place is in great shape with usual few things needing TLC, but all in all, a great residence. We did virtually no cooking there and were rarely in the house, doing more sightseeing and attending a wedding, but the time in the house was pleasant and quiet. Anacortes is indeed a special place and the property is decidedly special, recommended to anyone as long as they don't mind lots of stairs. The property managers were very pleasant and helpful. Besides the ferry landing and the beautiful Washington Park, major restaurants are in Anacortes proper, a few miles down the road. Great walking area around the park and to the local Marina.
For my husband's birthday, we returned to Anacortes and stayed at Captain Jim's again. The house, on three levels with a sloping yard, is very clean. No mold smells. The Crow's Nest upstairs with a captain's chair, binoculars, and a wet bar; the ground level has two bedrooms, a bathroom, sitting room ... with access from the garage. The main level has a basic kitchen, dining area, kitchen, half bath, and master suite opening to the back yard. There's a big deck wrapping around the front, overlooking a marina. Internet and cable TV. Quiet neighborhood. People who handled the booking apparently also operate a business in Anacortes and seem somewhat scattered; we never got any paperwork so I had to write to confirm where to get the key after our deposit cleared. (This happened last time, too.) When we picked up the keys, there was no receipt or instructions or address provided. Had to double back to get a handwritten receipt with the address at the top. When we got home, I discovered we'd packed a teaspoon from the house and wrote an email to ask where to mail it; they replied asking how many people stayed in the house. I replied 'two' and asked why. They replied because three beds were used. I replied we only used two beds. Didn't care for the accusatory tone but it might have been a case of a housekeeper getting mixed up. And brief messages from a phone can be abrupt. No matter! We enjoyed the house and its location and spent many happy hours at nearby lakes and beaches, not to mention some great restaurants in Anacortes. If you go on a Saturday, the Farmer's Market is spacious and varied. If you stay at Captain Jim's, just be prepared to do more than your share to get information about getting the key and a receipt.
We have stayed in many VRBO houses, but this is by far our favorite. We stayed here for a week and were very comfortable. The house is in a nice, quiet neighborhood, has a spectacular view, the kitchen is very well equipped and the wifi and HD are welcome additions. Our communications with Tom and Elisabeth (the property managers) were easy and accurate and the house was clean and even better than the pictures portrayed it.
We appreciated the detailed welcome letter from the owner, giving instructions for entertainment/communication as well as location of appliance manuals and emergency equipment (fire extinguisher and first aid kit).
The ferry terminal is a quick 5-minute drive, and downtown Anacortes is 10-15 minutes away.
Thanks for sharing this great house and thanks for allowing dogs, too!
From the moment we walked in, until we sadly closed up the house 3 days later, the 6 of us who rented it for a 60th birthday celebration knew we had chosen the perfect place for such an important event. The owners have thought of every detail (well...we didn't find a tea kettle, but hey, the microwave worked just fine), to make their guests feel at home and special - from the comfortable furniture/beds, to the well stocked kitchen including all kinds of spices, to the sauna out back and the "crow's nest" on the 3rd level! Add to this the incredible views, made even more awesome by sunny days and glorious sunsets, and the wide variety of activities close by, (don't miss walking around Washington Park) , and we simply could not have found a better place to stay in Anacortes! We recommend it to anyone wanting to kick back and relax in style.
