Bright and airy, 2nd & 3rd floor living right 'In The Village' (see book by Anthony Bailey, 1971), with a great view of activities on Water Street, yet still very private. Historic 19th century building with modern loft living ... vaulted ceiling, sky-lights, spiral staircase, roof-top deck. Large open-space living, dining, and kitchen space with two bedrooms, a full bath, and a 1/2 bath on the second floor, and one bedroom (sleeps 4) on the 3rd floor. Views of Stonington Harbor and Fishers Island, NY from 2 of the bedrooms. 3 short block walk to the Harbor, Small Boat Ass'n launch area (launch your kayaks at this free public launch space), children's playground, & Fishing Docks. Shopping and restaurants on Water Street, Public Library (1 block), Old Lighthouse Museum & DuBois Beach at the end of the Point (approx. 12 blocks - 'The Borough' is a peninsula).

From “The Point” you can view three states--CT, RI, & NY-- or see the last remaining commercial fleet in the state bring lobster and famous scallops and flounder to the Town Dock. The Borough is a major yachting center with all the amenities and our beautiful harbor boasts boats of all types and sizes. From The Borough, you can visit Mystic Seaport, Mystic Aquarium, Watch Hill RI, the RI beaches, and either Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun Casinos .... all with only a 10 to 30 minute drive.

Notes: Apartment is on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building, so the outside deck is on a rooftop with access through a sliding glass door in the master bedroom. It's a relaxing place on the West side of the building to wind down the day.

The Stonington Village Farmer's Market **** every Saturday from June through October, 9am-noon, RAIN OR SHINE. Located adjacent to the Town Dock on the Harbor (only 2 blocks from the apartment) and has proved an enormously popular addition to life in the Boro. 10 to 15 vendors assemble beside the playground to offer locally (CT.) produced vegetables, fruit, cut flowers and decorative plants, jams, all sorts of breads, pies and baked goods, meat, fish, shellfish--and more, depending on the season. The Stonington Village Improvement Association oversees this market under a tent in its center & provides fresh coffee & tea, kindly donated by local restaurants & merchants. Contributions for the refreshments go to funding SVIA projects

6 adults and 2 children stayed in this apartment for three nights. We were in town for several wedding events. The location could not have been better! And the apartment was very spacious. We had plenty of room! The apartment was very clean and ready for us. The deck was a very nice spot. The owner made our stay very easy and enjoyable. She was very helpful. We couldn't have asked for a better stay!
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Here are the things the listing doesn't tell you:

It's in a beautifully charming village that acts like your typical Cape Cod village. You're surrounded by little shops, restuarants, attractions, and the water. The "master bedroom" opens on to the roof where my now-fiance proposed to me. It's a beautiful, romantic apartment located in the equally charming 'borough' of Stonington. If you're planning to stay over a holiday week/weekend, Stonington is THE place to be. The locals in this town are steeped in tradition and seem to live by the credo "Go big or go home." We enjoyed a parade right on the street in front of the apartment celebrating the Fourth of July. Carolyn, the "Boss", is very kind; she went out of her way to see to our comfort and enjoyment.

We live in "small town" Texas where the neighbors sit on the porch and ask about the weather when you walk by. You receive much the same experience in Stonington. The people are friendly, the shops open and welcome.

I have hopes to return to this adorable Stonington apartment every year and implore you to do the same... Just not over Fourth of July :)
