Beach cottage with view of Lake Michigan's Pere Marquette sandy beach

We had a WONDERFUL week at Cottage Sankofa. The location absolutely cannot be beat. Not only is the cottage a very short and easy walk to the beach, but it's located in an area of Muskegon with only one way in and out from the main drag. This resulted in minimal traffic and a peaceful week.

As other reviewers have noted, the cottage is very well stocked with most everything you need except for your clothing. The second bedroom is small, but "doable" for my family of 4. It was so very handy to have a washer and dryer in the basement. Denise even provides laundry detergent and softener!

Our only complaint is that it was difficult to cool off the house on the really hot days. There is a self-standing cooling unit that kept the master bedroom and living room area comfortable, but the kitchen and bathroom often became quite hot...particularly when the oven was on. I'm not sure there is an easy fix. This minor inconvenience isn't enough to keep us away in the future.

We really enjoyed the area. One day we drove north to go out on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. Another day we visited the Holland area. Muskegon itself is full of little treasures like the farmer's market and the confectionary. The beach couldn't be any better for our needs. There were no steps from which to access it and there is nothing but pure white sand for as far as the eye can see.

We loved that the cottage backs up to a woods. We often saw deer grazing in the front and back yard. Absolutely beautiful. We would return to Cottage Sankofa in a heartbeat! Thank you, Denise!

Our second time visiting the Cottage Sankofa - it's such a wonderful place! Well-stocked, comfortable, and you can walk right down to the beach to play in the waves or watch the sun set. We will be back again!!

We had a great time at this rental. We were two couples and my only complaints is that the second bedroom is very small. You had to climb over the one twin bed to get to the other, also there was no door on the second room. But with that said it was still manageable with 2 couples. The boys golfed both days and the girls went on a long bike ride to the farmers market. Great bike trails! You must try US 31 BBQ in downtown. Awesome food! We spent most of the time at the beach. Just cross the street and you are there. We had a wonderful weekend and even with the small 2nd bedroom we would totally rent this place again. Very relaxing.
