Beachfront Estate with Private Pool 15 to 20 minutes from Cancun Hotel District

We recently stayed at the Casa Playa de Turtugas from 11/1/12 to 11/8/12. We had a wonderful time, and enjoyed the house very much. It is a spacious, beautiful home - clean and well maintained. The house staff was amazing - Vicky, Alicia, and Mari met all of our needs and then some. They cooked delicious meals for us, and accommodated our gluten free diet without any problems. They anticipated our needs, greeting us in the mornings with coffee, and remembering who liked which type of fruit. They were helpful in creating the menu of meals, and getting us a grocery list. They had suggestions for us for sightseeing, and local tips, etc. We cannot say enough good things about them, if we ever return it will absolutely be because of these 3 women - they are worth their weight in gold!!
A few things are worth mentioning. The house description is a bit misleading. This is NOT a beachfront estate. It is an OCEANfront estate. The backyard ends in what is basically a cliff. There is a fence, and a sheer drop straight down to the ocean. Ernesto, the property manager, tells us that Hurricane Sandy swept away the beach days before our arrival - however, we were told that the "beach" is apparently seasonal. In the summer months there is a small bit of beach but in the winter months there is not. This was a big disappointment to us, as we had 4 small children with us who were very much looking forward to a week of playing in the sand, and "beachfront" is exactly why we picked this particular property. Fortunately, there is a small operation about 5 minutes down the road called the Pirata Morgan - you can pay a small fee and spend the day enjoying their beautiful beach. We did that twice, and it was quite nice.
About that road - also not mentioned in the description of the house. The "road" is in fact a very poorly maintained dirt road. From where the real road ends to the house is exactly a 12 minute VERY bumpy and SLOW trip by car. We found that the house was a full 45 minutes from the Cancun International Airport, and it took us about the same amount of time to get to downtown Cancun. This is misleading in the description, where they tell you it is only 25 minutes away from Cancun. Definitely not so!!
The house had some minor issues - ants run rampant, hot water was erratic in the showers, the "hot" tub was really a "whirlpool" with no heated water, etc. None of them were dealbreakers, it is a nice house. Also be aware there are 2 large dogs. They were chained.
