Northwest Michigan and Frankfort are Special!: Benzie County is south of the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, Glen Lakes and west of Traverse City. The port city of Manistee is about 30 minutes south of Frankfort.There are plenty of things to do and to see around the area, here is a list of a few. During the summer, there are a number of great art and craft shows in Benzie County.Visit the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and climb the dunes. Bring your camera and take the tour of the Point Betsie Lighthouse . Or bring your bike and ride the Betsie Valley Trail. Cities, towns and villages around the area sponsor July Fourth activities. Traverse City hosts the National Cherry Festival in July. Mushroom Festivals, Antique Car Shows, Spring Solstice Days, and a multitude of carnivals and festivals make Benzie County and Northwest Michigan a great place to visit.
Frankfort's Downtown and Waterfront: What a delightful place to spend a quiet week! Only stones throw from the Lake Michigan beach, yet a pleasant walk to Main Street to enjoy an afternoon of shopping in the many fine shops or an ice cream in Frankfort's wonderful business district. The Betsie Valley Trail is at your doorstep. Dining and local activities are all close by as well as Frankfort's quaint shopping and marina district. Elberta, around Betsie Bay features the best-kept secret beach on the west coast according to Traverse Magazine. Elberta's Marina Park with one of the nicest playgrounds in the area is right on the way to the beach. Beat the stress of the world by jogging or walking on the beautiful Betsie Valley Trail system! See nature from the bridges and lookouts along the trail. It's at your doorstep from this great get away.
