Lance-Aux-Epines, OWL COTTAGE - Beachside Cottage with panoramic views of Bay

Spectacular view, perfect pool, short walk to beautiful beach, authentic Caribbean house...what more could you ask for!
We returned to Grenada after 20 years (too long) and Owl Cottage was a perfect fit for 4 of us. Sitting on the porch for breakfast and then evening cocktails, with the view over Prickly Bay...aaah.The beds were very comfortable, AC, a fan, and louvre windows for the breeze, large bathrooms, with good showers.
We were very impressed with the pool which has a 'stand on' ledge all around, plenty of patio furniture, lovely shade from a pergola and outdoor shower. Even though we travelled all over, I never saw a more beautiful property...the colors, textures and variety of the vegetation were exceptional.
Even though Grenada is more built up this area is non-touristy. L'Anse aux Epines beach is across the way and 20 years later the beach is still lovely and quiet.
Greta made calliloo and a pumpkin soup for us and we chatted about the island and food. Speaking of food...some eating adventures we had...Rhodes at Calabash is a splurge but you can walk along the beach to get there...
The Little Dipper is tiny, Grenadian and cheap with a spectacular view...Charcoal is near the cottage, great fish sandwich and they deliver...The Aquarium is in a fantasy setting on a lovely beach...Coconut Grill at night, tables in the sand, the sea just feet away. If you go just one place for the day, make it La Sagesse...great food and a charming cove beach.
Owl Cottage was quite a find. We loved it.

We spent a relaxing week in November at Owl Cottage. This well-kept home is the exact replica of its website counterpart. It is located in the L'Anse-aux-Epines residential area (versus in the hotel zone) with several nearby restaurants. The Calabash beach is located down the (quite steep) driveway and across the street. Our favorite part of the home (aside from the air conditioned bedrooms) was spending time on the large balcony overlooking Prickly Bay. Particularly attention-grabbing is watching (from the balcony) an American Airlines plane flying right over house around 7:30/8 a.m. Although we spent our days driving (car rental from Ashley Church/Sunshine Tours) around the Spice Island, we looked forward to returning “home” to the beautifully manicured lush gardens and the cool, chlorine-free swimming pool. There’s nothing quite like being in the pool overlooking the bay, sipping a cocktail waiting for the sunset. Spectacular!

Ashley Church is an excellent resource for getting around the Island. Driving in Grenada (especially navigating the narrow roads in the rainforest while driving on the left side) takes some getting used to, but well worth the scare or two we experienced. Make sure to ask Ashley about Magazine Beach and the Aquarium Restaurant.

Greta’s friendliness and eagerness to assist is unmatched. Although we did not ask Greta to prepare daily breakfast/lunch, she graciously agreed to cook some local cuisine—Calaloo soup, mashed white yam and lambi. She also prepared the Island’s holiday drink—sorrel. Needless to say, she kept the place spotless and offered to our laundry.

Owl Cottage is a great place to unwind with almost all the comforts of home—fully furnished kitchen (no dishwasher), telephone for local calls, broadband Internet, television (watch Channel 34—I think—for local guide) with cable/DVD player and CD player. Keep in mind that the home has several sets of stairs and does not have central air—AC only in the two bedrooms, which Greta shuts off during the daytime hours.

We had a great holiday at Owl Cottage, and it is in an ideal position. the place is very well equiped, the pool is fabulous and Greta could not do enough for us she is a real treasure, also Ashley made our holiday trouble free. We would highly recommend Owl Cottage and all of the restaurants which are excellent. You would be spoilt for choice
