Lamplighter Area:

Wonderful mountain biking in warmer weather, and trout fishing, mountain biking (major ski areas and trails), horse back riding, hiking and boating and swimming (Lake Tahoe, Donner Lake).
Historic Truckee has many original buildings, center of the railroad passage over the Sierras, Donner Party museum, many fine restaurants, classical western bars, and some of the finest mountain vistas.
Reno is just a quick trip away, 35 miles on rte 80, where you can find gambling casinos, shows and the International Airport.
Ski:
The major ski areas become Mountain Biking facilities with full use of the lifts and terrains (Squaw, Alpine, Northstar and Sugarbowl) all within 15 minutes.
