Boothbay Harbor is 1 hour away, and for those who need more outlets than what Freeport offers, North Conway is within 1 1/2 hours. Famous Bar Harbor is 2 1/2 hours north, and Boston is 2 hours south. For history buffs, there is the Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain House and the Robt Peary Museum located 20 minutes north in Brunswick. For those committed to antiquing, you have come to the right place! Performances at the Maine State Musical Theatre (arrange for those tickets in advance because they sell out quickly!) will round out the vacation of those looking for a more cultural experience. And don't miss the Old Port in Portland which offers exquisite food and opportunity to stroll on cobblestone streets and through the working waterfront, with a view of the ferries to/from the islands.
