Villa description: Apartment 7002 is probably the best appointed and one of the very few direct beach front apartments for rent in Aquatika. The square footage is approx. 1200 sq. feet, with 3 bed/2 bathrooms. The Master has a Queen bed with Tempurpedic top and a 37 inch LCD, DVD and Cable. Kid's room has a wooden bunk bed w/twin mattresses and a futon sofa that expands to sleep two more guests. The third room has a full-size mattress that sleeps another two, for a maximum total of 8 guests.

Amenities: There is a 42 inch Panasonic Plasma in the living room, Cable TV w/ 20+ HD channels, DVD Home Theater, Nintendo GameCube with many titles, complementary Wi-Fi Internet access, Leather furnishings, stand-alone ice maker, all kitchen appliances and service for 8, A/C in all rooms and living room, equipped laundry room. Located on the second floor, the balcony faces the Ocean, with hammocks, breakfast table, lounge chairs, and a Wine refrigerator. Beach is directly in front of the apartment, a stone's throw away.

Reservations: A 25%-50% Deposit is required to book the apartment, depending on dates. In addition, the following fees apply: A $100 cleaning/utilities fee applies. A Required $200 Damage fee Deposit, fully Refundable after a satisfactory post-rental inspection. Cancellations outside 60 days - full refund. Cancellation fee of $300 applies for cancellations outside 30 calendar days of arrival date. Cancellations within 30 days and no-shows forfeit entire deposits.

Golf: There is a 18 hole mini-golf putting facility. Two 18 hole championship courses are located within 5 minutes from the complex. Another 6 courses are within 20-30 minute driving time.

Great Family Place

We stayed here for 5 days with our Son, his wife and baby. It was great for us, easy access to ocean and all the pools. New gas grill on the balcony...and this unit is one of the few with a view of the ocean. The resort is long with the pools in the middle and parking on the outside but there are only 2 buildings looking at the ocean. The Beach is only a couple of hundred yards wide but basically private for the resort. Restaurant at the club house open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10 to 8 but we didn't try it so can't comment on the food. The only negative about the facilities is that the Water slide is only open on weekends.

Regarding the condo...just great. Equipped with everything you need, pots, pans, linens, towels, etc. Kitchen had a variety of random foods and condiments people had left, not the bare shelves you usually find, so we used a few things and left a few things. Cable TV had many channels including HD, X-box with a bunch of games, a number of CDs, etc. Wifi available but you need to get the code from the MacDonalds. Plenty of pool toys so don't bring those. Pack n play for the baby. Bring your beach towels. No drawers or closet available in the Master bedroom is the only problem there.

Location is fine unless you are interested in casinos and nightlife. The Rainforest, Luquillo beach & kiosks and Pinones beaches are a short drive. Drive down Hwy 187 along the coast to the Pinones beaches, beautiful drive and the back way to the airport. The neighborhood is just normal for Puerto Rico. There are people selling fruit and veggies along the road in different places. Grocery stores, fast food, etc. are about 10 miles away
.
Mrs. MacDonald was extremely helpful when we arrived. We can't say enough about how patient and friendly she was...even though we had problems with our car rental, she stayed with us while we sorted that out and got us started on our vacation with a positive note. We left on a Tuesday and it was the Thursday of the next week before our cleaning deposit was returned. A document listing which remote controls what plus other information such as wifi code would be helpful so the renter doesn't have to sort it out on their own.

We will definitely consider returning in the future.

Loved It! Minnesota Traveler July 2009

We took our family of 6 for a one week vacation at this rental the end of July this year. The owners were fantastic and the property was everything they represented! We have 4 boys aging from 4 years to 13 years. My husband and I traveled to San Juan in Sept. of 2008 and liked it so much due to the affordability, no passport required and endless things to see and do that we decided to take the whole family back less than a year later. Looking for a place to stay with 4 boys versus a romantic get-away with my husband posed many challenges. We wanted them to have the beach experience but not the crowds and hotel room accomodations. I spent hours and days researching options before deciding on this rental. The location worked great and is close to many shopping centers including a couple walmarts, which was great for stocking the kitchen with, and provided us with the ability to eat in most every meal. We took the kids to Old San Juan, the rainforest, and a late night kayaking excursion to the bio-luminescent bay. We had access to the beach and all pools 24/7 which is never an option at hotels and the kids were thrilled with it.
The only thing I would recommend for travelers staying here is to make sure you have your own car, expect travel time to be more time consuming than expected and be aware there are very few street signs anywhere so if you have a gps, use it or buy one. We printed out extensive maps and directions prior to going and still managed to get lost more than once. Needless to say we are quite familiar with most main roads and streets in the north east portion of the island! The property is truely an oasis in it's location. The area around it is run down and very poor, but we never felt uneasy or worried about safety. That was part of the experience we wanted for our children, so they can appreciate and be aware of other cultures and standards of living without jepordizing safety.
Recommendations for the owners! You were fabulous and I will recommend you to everyone I know who is considering going to Puerto Rico. With 4 boys ranging in such a wide age and interests, another tv in the 2nd and/or 3rd bedroom would have been nice, but certainly not a must have. I look forward to going again. I think my favorite part of all was sitting in your hammock watching the ocean!

The Best Beachfront Vacation in P.R.

I stayed at this property for 4 days in April 2009 with my wife and my three kids (6, 12, and 15). The condo had everything we needed for a great vacation stay - beach chairs, golf clubs for the mini golf, beach toys, even children's videos/games. Our kids had a lot of fun in the pools - especially the slide. We had all the amenities needed for an excellent stay. The service by the owner was excellent. The unit was exactly as described and shown in the pictures. We really enjoyed the balcony with an ocean view. Great for families with children. The place is very safe and clean.
We will come back again soon.

Security deposit

I would not recommend this property. It is too far out, in a bad neighborhood and the owner may not be fair with the return of the security deposit.

Prior to our stay, I checked with the owner about my family visiting us at the condo. We were suppose to be able to have family visit and the guards would not let my family in to visit; it was a major issues just to let them in to turn around and leave. As a result, we spent most of our time at their hotel instead.

Be careful to make sure that you read the rental policy so that if an issue comes up, you are familiar with all of the terms of your agreement. We left the condo in excellent condition, bought supplies and left them for the owner and vacated one day early.

Despite paying for cleaning and utilities in advance, this owner wanted to charge us extra for his utility bill and take it out of our security deposit.

DO NOT accept a check for your security return if you pay by credit card...keep your protection.

Perfect for Families with Young Children

Our family (couple with a 4-year old and a 1-year old) stayed in this unit for 8 nights in January 2009. We were very pleased with the condo, which allowed us space to stretch out. The unit was exactly as described and shown in the pictures. We particularly enjoyed the balcomy with an ocean view. The master bedroom had a very comfortable mattress. One of the bedrooms has bunk-beds with Batman bedding - our 4-year old son loved this room. Owner was easy to do business with - answered questions, returned security deposit, etc. The condo had everything we needed for a week - pots, beach chairs, charcoal, even children's videos/games. Our kids loved the pools - especially the slide (open on the weekends). For us, the location was great. We visited family in San Juan, spent a morning in Luquillo and another morning at El Yunque. However, Loiza is not for everyone. It's about a 40-minute drive from San Juan. If dining/nightlife is a priority, I think Aquatika would not be a good fit, as the daily drive back from San Juan would get old quickly. Also if you need onsite spas, golf, dining, etc., then Aquatika would not be a good choice. However, if you have young children and want more space than a hotel room, nice pools, and are not going to do fine dining or engage in nightlife, but will be visiting El Yunque and Luquillo, I think this would be a good location. I know we'll definitely be back!
