About Peggy & Bill D'Zio

We are retired and live in the home with guest rooms. We are within minutes of Sapphire Beach/Crystal Cove. We are in St. Thomas about 8 months a year. We spend most of our time helping our guests, going to the beach, boating and just relaxing.

Peggy & Bill D'Zio purchased this studio in 2001

Why Peggy & Bill D'Zio chose East End

We both grew up in the Jersey Shore area. We always heard that when it comes to Real Estate, it's location, location, location. And this house certainly has that. We saw the beauty in this house when we first viewed it. It was destroyed during a Hurricane in 1995. We purchased it with no roof, no windows or doors, and terribly overgrown grounds. It has been a long haul, but we now have the house to be what we envisioned all those years ago. Now we offer you a little piece of our dream.

What makes this studio unique

Island living is all about the water, sun and fun. Red Hook is just 1.5 miles away and has numerous restaurants and happy hour deals. Red Hook has ferries that go to the BVI (need a passport) and to St. John on a regular schedule.

A little piece of paradise

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I stayed in the Palm Room at Pelican Beach Sand Castle for 2 nights after sailing with 5 other people in the BVI's for 2 weeks. We required a place to stay before catching our flight out of STT. The Palm Room was perfect for us - quiet and with a view to die for. We did not need to use the air conditioner because of the cooling breezes wafting over the comfortable king-sized bed. Peggy and Bill were so keen to share ideas with us about places to eat and things to do. Peggy provided me with fins for snorkelling at Sapphire Beach, a short 10-minute walk down the hill. Bill even drove us to the airport at 6 AM for a small fee. The Sand Castle is very pleasant and will not break the bank account.

Not quite as advertised

  • 2 of 5
Yes the view was spectacular but there was so much junk lying around everywhere that we never wanted to actually stay on the property. The walk to Sapphire is a relatively easy 10+ minute walk, not 5. The pool was clean enough the lounge chairs were dirty and falling apart. Property owner said new straps were "on order". The room decoration was nice enough though dated. The fridge had rusted shelves and the blinds for the large sliding glass door was inoperable, rusting and falling apart. We hung towels to obstruct the view of people coming up the path below. The AC and fan worked fine, and there is a nice breeze there. The bathroom was sufficient but the toilet is packed into a very small nook, large people beware. The property owner is in the very next room separated by a wooden door and her 20 something granddaughter is on the other side, not exactly "private" in my opinion. They weren't loud but the granddaughter comes in after midnight every night waking us up each time.
Other misleading listings:
Wireless Internet: Guest are given the password to access our wireless Internet Router.>>There wasn't a wireless network available, at least in our room. I didn't pursue this though.
Satellite / Cable: Expanded Cable with some Premium channels.>>Nope. a total of 22 channels, most are shopping. NO premium channels.
Gated community>>Well, there is a gate which is left to swing in the wind. Something about a disputed with the maintenance guy who is supposed to fix it.
Off Street parking>> is on a rocky, root ridden dirt incline. I ran over a small stump that was difficult to see the first day damaging my rental car.
Outdoor grill>> Was the the rusty grill I saw in the bushes? Maybe there's another.
Deck/Patio>> Nope.."under construction"
All in all, it wasn't horrible, but I would have looked elsewhere if I had the real picture.

Great Spot in STT

  • 5 of 5
Breath taking views with amazing sunrises. A lovely spot to get away from it all for a bit and just relax.

The near by beach is not very crowded and very nice. And if you don't feel like making the short walk to the beach you can walk down to the pool on the property for a dip and enjoy the veiw from there.

Owners are very nice and know all the ins and outs of the Island.

Breath taking views

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I were looking for a nice quiet getaway for a long weekend. We were lucky to have found this place. The views will take your breath away. Our room was quiet and peaceful. My husband and I took full advantage of the pool and long walks on the beach. It was like a second honeymoon. Peggy and Bill were so gracious and made us feel right at home. I was a bit sad when we had to leave. But I am already looking forward to our next visit.

A little hidden gem!

  • 4 of 5
THE PROPERTY: This is such a cool property! The pictures don't really do it justice. First off, the property is sooo unique. Peggy told us that it was built as an executive vacation retreat for some corporation (I can't remember which she said.) It has a huge center courtyard with the most insane views I may have ever seen. There are 3 or 4 circular bungalows around the perimeter of the courtyard, with their own views. And there is a private pool downstairs (although we didn't use it). There is also a living room with a TV, dvd player (in addition to the one in the room) that Peggy & Bill welcomed us to use. There are two adorable kittens that come around and visit, Midnight & Nightmare.

THE ROOM: We stayed in the Palm room and were pleasantly surprised how much bigger and more modern it was than what I expected from the pictures. It has a comfortable king bed, a little fridge which Peggy stocked with water for us and a microwave. The bathroom was modern and nice. Peggy gave us many towels for the shower as well as beach towels. Wish we could've gotten the air conditioning colder but might have been our mistake (I think the remote was in spanish).

THE LOCATION: The property is super convenient for a getting to the beach. It is about a 10 minute walk. If you don't rent a car, it is a little trickier to get to Red Hook. You can either take a taxi which costs $8 for 2 people from the main road outside the property, or it seemed as when we had them drive us all the way in (the property has a suppppper long driveway) they charged $10. Or there is a safari bus that runs till sundown for $1 that you can flag down from the main road. The property was only a mile from Red Hook and I assumed we could walk when I booked the place, but the road doesn't really have anywhere to walk. So that was the only thing I hadn't really planned for, but definitely not a big deal.

THE HOSTS: Peggy & Bill were really friendly and helpful. Bill came and picked us up from the ferry and took us to the house. He also drove us to the airport for a small fee the day we were leaving. They gave us lot of good tips on restaurants, let us use their snorkeling gear and were very helpful.

In conclusion, we were really happy with our stay and the price was definitely very affordable compared to the other alternatives on the Island. Thanks again!

Owner's Response: So, glad you came to stay with us. We enjoyed your company also. We try to "help" our guests as much as we can, so their stay in St. Thomas will be as rewarding as possible. Please come and stay with us again.

Paradise Vacation

  • 5 of 5
I have to admit this was our first VRBO rental. We were nervous about renting this way. I can only say WE LOVED IT! It was everything the listing said it was. It's a beautiful home with an interesting history. It has wonderful views (I still look at the pictures every day). The guest house is just the right size for 2 people. It has cute decor, huge bed, a fridge, a private bath and lots of windows. Everything we wanted. We really did enjoy our stay. Peggy and Bill were very nice. They told us of a couple of their favorite spots to eat which made our trip even more enjoyable. We would recomend this property to a friend and we'd love to come back. Thank you again
