I chose this flat in Istanbul based on what I love as a travel writer - authenticity with all the comforts of home and easy access to the tourist sites without having to be in the middle of them. Most importantly views that will knock your socks off and leave no doubt what city you are in.
This is a renovated flat in an authentic historic neighborhood, just minutes to all the sites. It has 1 enclosed bedroom with queen bed plus a bedroom suite connected to the salon, divided by curtains with 2 twin beds. You can add the studio flat upstairs for a third bedroom for only $50 more per night Nov 15 - March 15, or $80 during regular season, or mix and match with our 2 other flats on the same floor.
Views galore from this bright, light flat in a historic building in historic Galata area. With a small balcony and a shared rooftop terrace just one floor above, it has a view most people who visit Istanbul can only dream about.
We have added many authentic Turkish touches to this flat from rugs, to art on the walls. White washed wood floors. Large windows with views. Huge roof terrace above with teak tables and chairs, food prep area, and barbeque grill.
Neighborhood: Just 1 block from Galata Tower. Kabob stands, Turkish music instrument stores, just up the hill from Galata Bridge which leads you to Sultanahmet with its glorious mosques and palaces and the Grand Bazaar - just minutes by tram, or an exhilarating 15 min. walk across the Galata Bridge over the Golden Horn to the major tourist sites. Some of Istanbul's best restaurants and cafes abound in this area. And the shopping is divine.
A 5 minute walk in the opposite direction and you are at the heart of vibrating Istanbul life - Istiklal Ave. Minutes from Tunel where the city's best live entertainment and dining are. Best of all , you don't even have to leave the flat - you can see it all from your living room/xtra bedroom, balcony and rooftop terrace.Including the ships passing to and fro across one of Europe's oldest harbors as they ply the Bosphorus Strait and the sparkling minarets and palaces pictured on every postcard of Istanbul.
The flat is located on the 5th floor (sorry no elevator, but views are worth it and you'll go home more fit than when you arrived!) of an old building. The flat is decorated with art, Turkish lamps, antiques, textiles from my travels around the world, eclectic artistic design, has a small balcony off the living room, and whitewashed wood floors throughout. The bathroom has floor to ceiling white tiles, a large modern rainfall shower, and teak countertop. The roof terrace will accommodate large groups in a setting you will not believe. Perfect for entertaining or just sitting quietly with a glass of wine, mesmerized by the stunning view.
Dine outside at our large teak table with a view of Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, & the Bosphorus. The terrace has outdoor dining and cooking facilities, all surrounded by the magic of Istanbul...a feast for the eyes and senses. A great place to entertain. Or simply enjoy the view of Old Constantinople with a glass of wine as you watch the seagulls circle the mosques in the moonlight.
Note: Although our 4 flats in this building have been recently renovated, the building itself is typical 'old' Istanbul. There are 5 flights of stairs, AND the view is worth it! You will love this flat and this neighborhood.
It's important to me that you know where you are without having to leave your flat. Your experience of Istanbul will be greatly enhanced by making this flat your home away from home.
2 Nights $ 170.00 per night
7+ nights $160.00 per night
14+ nights $125.00 per night

As a travel writer and former editor of a travel magazine, I have lived in and traveled to over 2 dozen countries, and I always stay in flats rather than hotels as I love to experience 'living' in a place however briefly I am there. I have chosen some of my favorite places on the planet in which to provide apartments for rental to other global travelers - it's the only way to travel as it takes you out of the tourist mode and puts you squarely into the the 'real' spirit of the Place in which you are traveling. All my flats have the following things in common:
1. located just outside, but near the tourist zone so that you can experience the authentic spirit of the city while being close enough to the sites and transportation to get to the 'tourist zone' easily,
2. beautiful views that leave no doubt where you are,
3. At least 2 bedrooms
4. homey and artistic touches throughout
Robin Sparks purchased this apartment in 2007
Istanbul is my favorite city in the world. It is colorful, vibrant, full of history and the melodious sound of Arabic influenced music and the call to prayer, delicious food, and best of all, the Turks themselves. Turks are the most hospitable people on the planet. If you stay in a hotel in this city, you might not ever learn this fact, which is the biggest reason I rent flats. Once you've 'lived' in Istanbul, however briefly, you will never regard Turks in the same way again. This is a country and a city, in the 'middle', which is where I like to be philosophically and geographically. What happens in Turkey will determine the future of Middle Eastern relations with the Western world. A very exciting place to be! I chose this neighborhood of Galata because it is up and coming. It is a delightful mix of the old with the new. Enjoy traditional tea gardens side by side with modern restaurants. This neighborhood once the abode of foreigners, mostly Greek, is gradually being gentrified. Enjoy it now while it still shouts TURKEY! (and is close to all the amenities of modernity.) Large group? Ask about my 2 and 3 BDRM. flats on the same floor. Rent both at discount.
This flat is white and blue with bleached wood floors and lots of sunlight . While outside, the mosque and palace rimmed shoreline of Sultanahmet remind you of where you really are - in the most magical city in the world! The bathroom is modern with a big rainfall shower, gleaming white tiles and a teak counter top. The roof terrace above this flat is huge and wonderful for entertaining large groups. Seagulls sweep overhead, you can watch ferries crisscross the Bosphorus and ships from around the world navigate one of its most strategic straits, hear the call to prayer from the mosque-studded skyline. The roof terrace has a small refrigerator, running water and sink, barbecue, outdoor dining furniture, and best of all, a seagull's view of the Bosphorus and Sultanahmet. Really amazing! A view that would cost hundreds of dollars per night in one of Istanbul's hotels. All yours for the length of your stay! Combine with the other 2 flats on this floor for a 10% discount or add our studio flat upstairs for only $80 more per night.
We absolutely loved our time in Istanbul. Davide was very helpful when we arrived. The apartment was lovely. The roof terrace was breathtaking. My wife loved the art in the flat. I would definitely recommend your flat to others. The folders of prior guests research was nice. I loved the coffee table books as well. One thing I have enjoyed at some flats we have stayed is having a few basics stocked. IE sugar, salt, pepper, dish soap. Great job on the flat!
Really enjoyed my stay in Istanbul. The flat was great, just like it looks on photos. Managers Elif and Davide were very helpful recommending best places to visit in Istanbul as well as arranging transportation to the airport. If I'll decide to revisit Istanbul - would definitely stay in this flat again
I stayed on two separate occasions at the Terrace One flat. The location is absolutely perfect. Just down the street from The Galata Tower and far enough away from the closest mosque to hear the call to prayer but not so close that it wakes you up at 5am.
Short walk down the street and you are at the tram station for a 4 min ride into Sulamanet or up the street and you are on Istiklal caddesi.
The views are amazing, watching the sun go down on the Bosporus from the living room or the huge roof deck. The condo was clean, well-stocked and had plenty hot water / towels. This was so much better than staying in Sulamanet as you are away from the big tour groups but still close enough to explore the sights. I will surely stay at Terrace One flat on my next trip to Istanbul
We stayed in this flat with our younger children. It met our needs wonderfully. The flat was tastefully decorated. Everything was very clean. The terrace on the roof is amazing! There are lots of shops, restaurants and groceries close by. It was just a quick walk down the hill to the metro. We loved the views across the Golden Horn. Do be prepared for a bunch of stairs and hills. This is true of anywhere in Istanbul though.
My wife and I stayed in this flat for 4 nights in September- the perfect time to visit Istanbul. Located in the shadow of the Galata tower, the location could not be better for taking day trips to the sights of Sultanahment, and visiting the nightlife of Taksim and Istiklal. The Metra is at the top of the hill, while above-ground trolley is at the bottom, and there are tons of great restaurants within a 2-5 minute walk from the flat. And having some wine on the roof top terrace as the sun sets over the Golden Horn and the mosques is breathtaking (even if you can't really see the sun). You do have to share teh therrace with other flats, but we were lucky enough to have several other people our own age staying at the same time, and were wonderful company. As the other reviewers have noted, getting up and down the stairs can be a hike, but you'll be walking everywhere anyway- at the end of the day you don't even notice it. All in all, it's a great medium-budget flat, and we would definitely stay there again.
We enjoyed our stay, taxi-service was perfect and relaxing, The flat is made for people, who doesnt matter to share sleeping in one room (there is one seperate room: but it is connected by a window to the living/sleeping room). The terrace is very nice with a look at amazing Istanbul (in front with rotten houses). I liked the original charme of the old house and neighbourhood. It is easy to reach the terrace- so we used it for breakfast as well (may be good to have a second sun-umbrella). Thanks for the uncomplicated booking and services.
For us, two adults and three teenage girls it was a cosy good place to stay- and to feel like coming home after a day in this nice and crasy city. I liked the area mixed in between hipness and rotten houses, every day life. Little Balkony and Terace combined with nice flat: we would like to come back.
My husband and another couple shared the apartment for a week in July. I highly recommend the accommodations! The apartment was well appointed, clean and in a fantastic neighborhood. Davide, Elif and Robin coordinated the details for our arrival and departure, making it easy. The 5 flight of stairs helps keep up your cardio and burn calories, not to mention, upon arriving to the the top, you are rewarded with magnificent views of the city. I would definitely stay here again!
1 block away from this charming flat is the historic Galata Tower surrounded by restaurants and tea gardens. Music Street, filled with Turkish instruments is 2 blocks away, Turkish lamp shops across street, historical monuments within steps, 3 blocks to best dining in Istanbul in Tunel area. 4 blocks to best shopping and entertainment. Walk across historic Galata Bridge to Egyptian Spice Market and Sultanahmet or take a ferry or take the tram...just a few tram stops to all the best sites in the city.
