Photos and Description of the Surry vacation chalet rental
Chalet, 4 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Patten Bay Chalet is located four miles from Ellsworth, ten miles from Blue Hill, twenty-four miles from Bar Harbor, the central town for Acadia National Park, and just thirty miles from Acadia on the Schoodic Peninsula. Located at the crossroads of Downeast Maine you are close to everything but far enough away from the crowds.

The Chalet is in a small, private, residential community. Hidden in behind woods the Chalet still has a spectacular view of Patten Bay as well as Mt. Desert Island, across the water. Although not directly on the water, the chalet has direct access to a private beach just 100 yards away for those so inclined. A public freshwater beach, great for family outings, is also only 12 miles away.

Patten Bay Chalet is an ideal starting point for exploring the Acadia/Downeast region. The serenity that surrounds the house only enhances relaxation after a day of activities and enjoying what Maine has to offer.

About The Owner

Mac is a somewhat retired business owner who now spends his summer as a Registered Maine Fishing guide and his off-season as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT and emergency medicine instructor for Pamlico Community College. In his spare time he tries to fish and catch up with his chores.

Deb works full time as a scientific curator and, in her spare time, dances, bakes, manages the house. She keeps things organized.

The Owner purchased this chalet in 2011
Why The Owner chose Surry

Between the two of us we have fifty years in the Acadia region. We chose Surry because it is close to everything but not in the middle of anything. It is quite and, when you open your ears, you can hear the silence. Four separate peninsulas/islands are equally easy to reach and, when needed, Bangor is close by. We love it.

What makes this chalet unique

Patten Bay Chalet has good qui, which is Chinese for 'energy.' The house just 'feels' good. It faces south so is well-lit all day. It looks out over the sloping front yard, to Patten Bay and then across the water to Acadia in the distance. No matter where you are, you catch a glimpse of the space in front of the house. At the same time the house is tucked in between two stands of trees on the sides and trees behind, giving the property a sense of privacy and snugness. If just feels good.

The house is solidly built and, in the distance between the road and the house there is nothing but trees so whatever road noise there is (which is not that much) is muted or overcome by the rustling of the leaves on the trees. You really feel isolated from the noises of civilization. Just sitting on the deck doing nothing is a like a tonic, refreshing both body and soul.

Patten Bay Chalet is a wonderfully private place that is also located near many things that Downeast Maine has to offer. Looking out from the porch it is difficult to tell that you have any neighbors at all and yet the property is less than ten minutes from some of the best restaurants in Downeast Maine in Ellsworth and Blue Hill, thirty minutes to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and only forty minutes to either Stonington on Deer Isle or Schoodic Peninsula (the quiet part of Acadia.) Go further Downeast and you quickly run into small fishing villages tucked in tiny coves along the coast. Move inland just a couple of miles and you start to find freshwater lakes with swimming, boating, and fishing to keep you busy for the summer. Maine starts just beyond your doorstep.

We have just returned from a beautiful stay at the Chalet. The house is even more beautiful than the pictures show. It was ideal for spending a week with my grown children and 2 precious little ones. The Chalet was open and roomy and the 3 bathrooms were a huge plus. The neighborhood beach was just a short walk from the chalet, and ideal for little ones to play, chase waves and explore the ocean critters. It was a short drive to Bar Harbor and majestic Acadia National Park. The days were never long enough to be able to see and do everything the area offered. The owners were extremely helpful in answering any questions about the area. The Chalet and Bar Harbor need to be on everyones "bucket list"

Patten Bay Chalet

Submitted: August 2, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
Our stay at Patten Bay Chalet was very nice, beautiful setting and quite. The property is well maintained and plenty of space for two families and the dog. The owners are delightful and provided wonderful recomendations for restaurants and shopping. Places we enjoyed the most for dinner were Cleonice and Simones's in Ellsworth. Both had great menues and nice wine lists. For breakfast., the Riverside Cafe can't be beat. Friday nights they have live jazz which we enjoyed with a drink before going to dinner. The days spent in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park were very pleasant. All and all, we had a fabulous week and would love to do it again. We most certainly would recommend Patten Bay Chalet to friends and family.
