Relax and Enjoy True American History!:
This wonderful home is one of several constructed for a Cape Cod seaman in the mid 19th century in the mid-Cape area and is located in the South Dennis Historical District and featured in that organization's brochures. It is in the process of being recognized as one of the United States National Registry of Historical Places. The home includes a variety of vintage nautical and Civil War memorabilia and our hope is that you, your family, and friends will enjoy sharing your memories of our Nation's history with your children. There is a large collection of both antique books and current magazines and novels, dating back to the late 1700s for your reading pleasure. There are many vintage documents, currency, and written materials from 1849 - the year the house was built - framed and on display throughout the house. The historical Dennis Public Library is history in itself and is a short walk from the house. The BEST ice cream parlor on the Cape is only TWO MINUTES away! Yummy!
Fresh Pond, The Bass River & Local Beaches:
The home is set over 100 yards back from 'Olde Main Street' and since it's original construction has been moved twice to it's present location, the first home on a small, quiet cul de sac of only seven homes. It is literally steps away from the stunning beauty of the 87 acres of Fresh Pond and the surrounding wooded trails. There is a small, private beach area, limited to the use of residents and guests on the cul de sac. Within minutes are sites for bike rentals and small watercraft of most every variety: canoes, sailboats, paddle boats, and row boats, for use on the waterways in the surrounding area, including streams, lakes and ponds. The famous pristine beaches of Cape Cod are a short drive or bike ride away; don't forget your sunscreen! Immediately adjacent to the house and only steps from the brick paved patio is 'the field', a large shrub lined lot suitable for any outdoor activity you choose and frequently the site for wedding receptions and similar formal activities.
Wedding? Anniversary? Family Reunion?:
As noted above, the grounds are often used for large gatherings, including weddings and/or wedding receptions, birthday & anniversary celebrations, or family reunions. Local caterers are available to assist with every need! Hand pick your live lobsters, fresh clams, & corn on the cob for a great clambake, or grill your steaks, burgers, & hot dogs on the propane BBQ on the patio & enjoy sitting on the outside tables & chairs or in the spacious sunroom while enjoying great family and friends, your own home cooked meals, and music to suit the mood. There is abundant parking at the home and on the street as well. A launch ramp for access to the Bass River, leading to the Atlantic, is only minutes away, as are a variety of public golf courses. Try the Cape's famous deep sea fishing for striped bass, flounder, & the BIG ONES: the Atlantic's blue fin tuna, which can range from 30 pounds to 500 pounds! Miss your gym? No problem!
