Not a good experience: When we got to the home we realized there was no stores nearby so we ran back down the road 16 miles to the store for food. We then returned to the house and went inside, we discovered there was no paper items provided, i.e. TP, paper towels, or even a sponge with which to wash the counters etc before we left. I was very surprised because altho I knew we had to bring our own towels and sheets, I did not realize we had to bring our own TP. When paying top dollar, one would think TP would be provided. I was also disappointed that when we arrived the home looked over grown;the grass looked like it had not been mowed for weeks- weeds were so tall that when we were running outside it was tearing at our legs. The lawn man did come out early the next morning to mow ( luckily it was not a vacation for sleeping in) however because of my sons allergies he then had to stay in the house, because of the mowing, while we were all outside. The lawn man watched while we backed the boat in....the main reason we rented this home was because of the dock and private ramp. Altho we were told the lake was low, we could see there was more than the 2 feet we needed to put the boat in. We had no sooner backed the boat in and we realized the ramp was not functional; the end of the ramp is broken off and just drops off. As a result the 19ft boat dropped off the ramp (like a cliff) and it sat there at an angle like it was going to flip. It was about this time that the lawn man decides to tell us--"I could have told you, you cannot use that ramp" He proceeded to tell us the end drops off, as we just discovered. Since the home was advertised as having its own boat ramp, I was very dismayed. It was a miracle we got that boat back up....thanks to 4 wheel drive--however in the process it damaged and bent the rim and severed our tire.....which ended up being a huge expense. We all felt we paid top dollar to rent the home and just felt it was a bit misrepresented; staying there took ALOT of effort. Not the relaxing weekend I had hoped for. In addition we all spent alot of time cleaning the home before we left, to be sure it was left in perfect condition. I was told the owner was quick to refund the deposit, however I still had to call to inquire on its whereabouts and then wait almost 2 weeks for it's return. The weekend was VERY expensive in part because we came home with so many additional expenses! Would not have rented the home had I known...
Owner's Response: The location of our home is clearly indicated on the google maps link. There is a WalMart Supercenter that is 9.6 miles from our home. There is a small local grocery/convenience
store and restaurant that is about 2 miles from our home. The restaurant has an awesome breakfast. We don't provide toilet paper or paper towels unless requested to do so. If anyone would like these items please let us know prior to your arrival and we would be happy to honor your request. the grass had been cut exactly one week prior to this renters arrival. it gets cut each and every week during rental season. the renter was told 15 days prior to arrival about the lake levels and specifically told that our boat ramp was only usable for small boats at this time due to the low lake levels. additionally we advised them about the other public ramps that are close by that can be used as well. We alerted this renter > than two weeks prior to arrival so their plans could be changed or they could have rented another home. We made every effort to alert these folks to the current lake level situation. Our contract states that refunds will be returned within 14 days of departure. This renter's refund cleared OUR bank exactly 11 days after they checked out. It was mailed 7 days after they checked out. I do not know why that is a problem since we sent it well within the contracted time frame of 14 days.
