What a disaster

The house itself was "ok" but the owner is an absolute disaster. Before i get to the owner i will go thru some deficiences in the house. For a little background I coordinated a 12 person golf trip over super bowl weekend.
- We found 10 dead cockroaches in the main living room in the carpet
- house is outdated. the newest TV is probably from 1998
- the pool/hot tub heat doesnt work well (more on this later)
Overall the house wasnt terrible. It was big enough and slept us comfortable. But the owner is terrible. Lets se where to statt:
- she called and emailed me the week before saying i wasnt paid in full (rent and security deposit) even though i had sent in the money months before and she had emailed me acknowledging such at the time. I immediately sent her copies of the checks that she had cashed. When i spoke to her on the phone it honestly seemed like she was out of it
- she is refusing to refund our full security deposit. she claims we stained the carpet- we meticulously cleaned the house before we left and we absolutely did not stain the carpet.
-she is also billing us for the propane used to heat the pool and hot tub. In theory this is fine, but the problem is the pool and hot tub werent heated after the first night. yet she is charging us $400 for the propane. The day we left there was a bill for $300 left on the front door from the propane company- we took a picture of it and figured we would talk it thru with wendy because the heat didnt work the majority of the time. So not only is she trying to charge us the $300 but she is also trying to get us for an extra $100. unbelieveable. Luckily we have evidence to back us up
The past few weeks after we got home from our trip has been a disaster. Wendy has been unresponsive and refuses to speak on the phone. She only emails regarding the security deposit, propane, and alleged carpet stains.
Bottom line is that there are a million cool houses in the scottsdale area that you can rent and not have to deal with an owner like wendy. We are pursuing our legal avenues and have hired an attorney to deal with the security deposit issue. We are also in contact with the arizone secretary of state.
Other than wendy our trip was great. i recommend scottsdale highly. i dont recommend wendy and her house.
Owner's Response: The ONLY disaster was the BIG MISTAKE which I made in renting to this group of 20 something year old guys!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!
I haven't even met "John" although I did check in a few of his friends.
The House was METICULOUS when they arrived, as it always is!
I take great Pride of Ownership and make sure everything is perfect for my guests .
They left the house in a HORRIBLE STATE!
The carpets throughout were all stained with food and beverages!
There was massive amounts of garbage piled up and some items even gone missing!

The house is far from outdated! There is a 42"HDTV! On which they watched Super Bowl and trashed the house!
The review is a total misrepresentation of everything!
It's so bizarre it's pathological...lol.
Upon the tenant departing he sent me a text message which I quote "
"THE HOUSE WAS GREAT!! I WILL DEFINETLEY BE WRITING A GOOD REVIEW on VRBO."
So why are we reading his malicious review now.....?
Once he received the photos of the damages, to which of course, he denied, he wrote the review and also threatened me with his resources etc. if I didn't compile to his demands!
He even actually accused the cleaning crew of doing the damage. Hmmm.
Then it was the prior tenant, ....the list goes on and on.
To me it really wasn't such a huge deal, The carpets could be cleaned.
I never should have rented to them in the first place.
His cost was only an additional $200.00 for cleaning carpets which is more than fair.
He was not charged for missing centerpiece etc,
The tenant has received his refund and cashed his check .(he told me he wasn't going to cash it...)
In any event, huge mistake on my part!
Never again!
THIS IS SUCH A FABULOUS HOME and HAS 23 AMAZING REVIEWS TO PROVE IT!!!
