THE AREA: Ideally located in unspoiled Palenville, close to Woodstock (12 miles), Saugerties (8 miles), Hunter (10 miles) and Catskill (10 miles). Hudson (12 miles).Winter sports: cross country and downhill skiing within 20 minutes sledding and skating too. Cozy next to woodstove This area hosts many festivals such as Hunter music and cultural festivals (Jazz Festival, Garlic Festival, Woodstock Film Festival). Antique and art lovers will find treasures galore. Saugerties, Woodstock Hudson and Catskill all have excellent art galleries and well known antique centers. Catskill, 'the new hot spot in the Catskills' with art galleries, bars restaurants, river front and historic buildings like the Thomas Cole House is close by. A variety of restaurants (from 4 star to the local diner) in the area as well as farm stands and farmers' markets will satisfy any appetite. Horse lovers note - we are close to H.I.T.S. in Saugerties NY (7 miles away) Fleas markets and tag sales are weekend treats

Great house and perfect spot for hiking and more

Lovely, comfortable house for every season. We came in the autumn for the mountains and leaves, and found plenty of varied trails within an hour's drive. The log fire made for cosy evenings in, or there was a decent choice of restaurants a few miles around in all directions, and interesting towns to explore. Would happily go back in the summer to enjoy the river, the garden and the deck. And everything worked.

If you are in need of a truly peaceful and relaxing week far from the hustle and bustle of the pressure of life this updated, beautful 1850 farmhouse is the one for you. It is as though you are guests of its owners, Jenna and Larry, complete with their favorite things,books, whimsical and natural art. Their home is surrounded by gardens and a running river. Nature photographers would also love it. This property reflects an appreciation of history, nature and the gifts of our planet. What a wonderful surprise for us!

True, the pictures are lovely but the place is even lovelier. Very roomy and really attractive, a charming fusion of the old and new. My family, full of readers, nature lovers and explorers (gorgeous big stream here), loved the place. The stargazers, away from the city, had a treat (always better in a jacuzzi), and we were close enough to convenience stores, art history trails, horseback riding, a great zoo, and restaurants when it was time to spice up that perfect peace in our temporary home.

Country Farmhouse with SOUL – Indeed!

What a spectacular and spacious house! Updated throughout yet it radiates plenty of historic charm. Exceptionally well kept with many amenities, one couldn't ask for more. Free high speed internet access with computer and free landline US phone calling were a welcomed plus (as cell service can be spotty). This secluded and serene location offered our family of 5 a quiet get away from our busy lifestyle. Tucked away in the woods yet ideally located to major roadways this house offered us a great base from which to explore the area and its natural beauty. Mountain hiking trails with spectacular views are a short drive away. The grounds are immaculately kept and the cascading flower garden, natural stone hand laid walkway, and adjacent flowing river were picturesque and postcard perfect. As my wife says, "I just love this house"! What else can I say, other than we will surely stay again.

Perfect getaway

We (a group of friends) stayed here for a break from the city -- and it could not have been more ideal: the house has so many comfortable spaces to relax in, so we could all spread out for writing and reading; we took advantage of the grill and very well-equipped kitchen and nearby farmstands to make excellent meals; we swam in the backyard stream, enjoyed the hot tub, even built a campfire! The owners are warm and care very much about meeting their guests' needs. I highly recommend this house for anyone!
