A disappointment

Even after negotiating a significant reduction in rate, it still wasn't worth it. A good location (on the beach) and pet friendly, but that's about it. The house is old, inside and out. It was dirty and dumpy. It appeared to be a family vacation house that was converted to a rental, but nothing was done to prepare it for renting. The owner's personal stuff was all over the place - on all the shelves, in the closets, in the dresser drawers - everywhere. The place was in significant disrepair. The back yard was a big weed patch. Frankly, it was kind of creepy. I'm glad we were only there for 3 nights.
Owner's Response: I am shocked and saddened by this tenant's review. I have been a real estate broker for years, and based on that experiance, I can always get a feel for a client pretty early on. I've learned that those who are intent on getting something for nothing are ALWAYS the biggest critics. I don't know why this tenant didn't call me immediatly with her complaints to give me a fair chance to rectify the situation, if warranted. In retrospect, I should have listened to my instincts and not rented to her, but now, unfortunatley, I am stuck with her review. Please take it with a BLOCK of salt. She wanted a full service rental house, without the cost, so we negotiated a price reduction with a corresponding service reduction. The house was built in the 70's - so, it's older, but very well kept, and updated and cheerful! This house has been lovingly cared for and remodeled. The house was NOT dirty - it was spotless. And, the back yard has a walkway to the beach - that's the perk of an oceanfront property. 5 bedrooms, well decorated, on the beach.. Hard to beat! And, it was made clear that this is, in fact, a 2nd home for me, and, of course, there are personal affects around. Most of the rentals are folks' 2nd homes, and it is very difficult to completely remove your all of your personal affects. Examples of things left behind are family photos displayed on a bookshelf, condiments & canned goods stacked neatly in the pantry, soaps/shampoos, etc - all neatly stored. More than ample space was provided for the tenants' own belongings. April is not prime beach-going season in VA Beach. The weather is still chilly and unpredictable, and the water no less than frigid: most likely the true reason for her disappointment. Creepy? The house is bright, spacious and sunny? Generations of families and children have enjoyed this happy home for 30 years, and I hope you give this home a chance to show you what it proudly has to offer. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any questions. Nan Owner/Broker
