Photos and Description of the Columbus vacation farmhouse rental
5 BR plus loft, 3 BA, price is 4-6 occupants, sleeps 13 (max)

Peaceful and quiet in a rural country setting, our 1833 log home has been restored and integrated with a new 2001 log home. The house is situated on 55 acres of rolling hill farm country and , conveniently located about 30 miles from Mount Vernon, Coshocton, Newark or Zanesville (65 mi NE of Columbus). Relax in the hot tub and watch the wild life, or sit on the porch or before a cozy, crackling fire in the fireplace. Abundant land to walk or ride horseback on. Horses are welcome (not provided).

Rustic charm and country elegance all in one place. Great for family reunions or gathering with friends. House offers washer, dryer and fully equipped, gorgeous country kitchen. Wonderful place to cook for the family. Satellite TV and wireless Internet. 2 1/2 miles off state highway, 1 mile of gravel road.

Property is managed for deer during hunting season, but lodging available and near Woodbury Nature Preserve (public hunting). Contact us for details.

The Surrounding Area: Set in the heart of Ohio farm country, the house sits on it's own farm. The area is rural, and scenery consists of rolling hills, woods, farms and farm land. We are about as far away from the hectic life as you can get in Ohio (although there are some wilder areas in southern Ohio). There are miles of gravel roads in the area with low traffic, suitable for biking, walking or horseback riding.

The owners live within 1.5 miles and encourage guests to enjoy the farm sights at both locations. Our amount of interaction with you is controlled by you. You can have the peace and quiet, or spend time working on the farm with us - it's up to you.

Come See What the Farm is All About: Our main farm is located within walking or riding distance, about 1.5 miles from the Weston House. We primary keep the stock at our farm, and are doing hay/corn on the Weston Farm. If you like animals, we'd be really happy to share some of our farming practices and let you visit with the animals. Spring time is the best time to see young animals especially the lambs. We are an authentic farming operation raising registered, grass fed Shorthorn cattle and Katahdin Sheep. We also have horses, chickens, dogs, and cats. Our farm operation focuses on management intensive grazing - or pasture rotations. We move stock approximately every 3 days. Typically we have around 25 cows and calves, and between 40 and 100 sheep. Stock is taken to market usually in the fall. Call for current farm activities.

Hunting Season: We are apaproximately 20 minutes drive from Woodbury Wildlife Preserve, a Public hunting area. We lease our farms during hunting season, and do not allow hunting on the premises. We have relationships with a couple of Outfitters in the area, and would be happy to refer you to them if you're interested in hunting in the area. Please call for details.

About Allison or Frank Stahl

My Ex-husband and I operate this vacation rental in rural, central Ohio. Our goal is to have a nice place for people to leave all the city hustle and bustle behind them, and enjoy the simpler life in the country. Frank still operates a working farm within walking distance of the Weston House, and I live nearby. We hope to expand our business someday to include multiple vacation rentals in the central Ohio area to allow me to stop working away from home, and just manage the rentals. Eventually, this will become a family business if our daughter chooses to join us.

Allison or Frank Stahl purchased this farmhouse in 2005
Why Allison or Frank Stahl chose Columbus

I fell in love with the kitchen in this house when we saw it come up for sale. At the time, thinking Bed and Breakfast, I thought this house, with some minor modifications could be the perfect country B&B. Unfortunately, working away from home has limited my time, so we've chosen to operate it as a vacation rental, catering primarily to families and groups of friends that like cozy, unique stays.

What makes this farmhouse unique

The house sits on 55 acres of farm and pasture ground, which is ideal for nature walks and watching livestock and wildlife. The old cabin of the house adds charm and history to the new, elegant log home. It's a great get away for groups of people who may be family or just friends. Built as a family home, it is a wonderful place to spend a holiday, or even a short weekend and just relax in the simpler way of country living.

Exceeded My Expectations!

5 of 5
Submitted: March 20, 2009 Stayed: July 2008
Absolutely beautiful home. Clean, modern, comfortable. The area was really "away from it all" and just the getaway my family needed. Soaking in the hot tub on the deck, watching the family roast marshmallows over the fire in the peaceful night was amazing. The kitchen afforded me everything I needed to cook amazing feasts. Our host stopped by with anything we asked for or needed so promptly. Better than my vacation to Las Vegas!

Owner's Response: We live near the rental home, and are only a phone call away. We manage the property ourselves, so want you to have everything you need when you need it. Additionally, we encourage people to stop by our farm where most of the livestock are, but mostly just want people to enjoy the countryside we love so much!

Second Stay at this Retreat

Submitted: March 4, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
As enjoyable as the first! The pictures accurately show the property amenities and cleanliness. They don't show the quality of the mattresses. No complaints from our group, we all boasted about the comfort of our sleep! Very secluded location with expansive land mass. Equipped to provide total relaxation to recharge for the outside world.
Recommended for:  Girls Getaway, Families with Teenagers
Owner's Response: Thank you for a great review. We try hard to make the house cozy including building a welcoming fire in the fireplace. Our place is great for family and familiar groups comfortable with a home built as a family home. Hope to have you ladies back.

Historic Rustic Charm w/Modern Beauty & Amenities

Historic Rustic Charm w/Modern Beauty & Amenities

This was our 2nd spring break, spent at the historical, getaway retreat! We bring our two sons, and our two dogs. It's a wonderful way to get our kids back to nature, and away from their video games! The charm is in the original cabin, with the cozy fireplace, and years of history. The new part of the property, has all of the beautiful windows, with the varying views of nature. You can see outside from every part of it! I love cooking in the gigantic kitchen, with every modern convenience, while watching my children explore nature with their dogs. I will never forget the feeling of family closeness, which is hard to replicate in the city. I even had a chance to relax, and read my book in the large tub, in the master bathroom.

Thank you, for making us feel like part of the family!

We are already planning our repeat visit, for next year's spring break!
Owner's Response: Thanks - it is families like yours that make it worthwhile doing what we do. For those who don't know, we also encourage families to come to our neighboring farm and see our sheep, cows, horses and chickens as well. But if you're not into Farming, you can easily do all those things mentioned by my renter.

Wish I were back there sitting on the porch.
