Too Small for Most

I was travelling on my own so this small, slightly more than 400sf studio was adequate for me. My biggest complaint was with the bed, which is a double hideaway type. I am 5'10" and it was only just long enough for me so anyone taller than that would not be comfortable. The unit is located on the road end of the building so the lanai has little privacy and is noisy. It also overlooks the parking lot and not the prettier garden and pool side of the building. The kitchen is adequately equipped and the bathroom and washup area is reasonable. Although there are plenty of beach toys and games available, I cannot imagine a family finding this small unit suitable. Perhaps one very young child with two adults at the most.
My enjoyment of the unit was spoiled because when I arrived I found that the pool and hot tub areas were closed for one month and the parking lot under the lanai was being ripped up and replaced. Guests were able to use the pool and hot tub in the building next door but this was not very convenient and so got used less than one would have used the pool in our own building. Also the dust and noise from the parking repaving made the lanai unusable for many of the days I was there.
Owner's Response: My husband and I are very sorry to hear that our guest did not enjoy his stay at our condo. During his stay, the parking lot area was undergoing a major repair. The entire surface was scraped off, and redone, and the pool was also being renovated. It is not surprising that the lanai was noisy and, I would imagine, unuseable. As of today, May 8th, I have been told that they are almost finished. Other friends of ours who are owners in the building have had similar reactions from their guests, due to the disruption caused by the renovations. The good news is, that once completed, the building will be much nicer for everyone to enjoy in years to come.
Gordon cited the bed as his `biggest complaint.' He described it as a `double hideaway type.' It is actually a California King Murphy Bed. My husband (who is 6'2") and I slept on it for 4 months this winter, and found it comfy and of the same length as our bed at home. I think our guest must have slept on the bed sideways (ie: down the width of the bed, rather than along the length of it). If you look at the picture of the bed on the website, you do not put your head at the end where the decorator pillows are on the photo, but along the length of the bed instead (the pillows do not fall off in the night).
We were in Maui with our 5 children, 3 of whom slept in the condo with us each night, and 2 of whom stayed with their grandparents in their condo on another floor. We found the condo to be a bit squishy on the rare days when we didn't get out much with 7 of us inside, but comfy and cozy with the 5 of us at night. I guess it depends on what you are used to, and what you are willing to pay for. For the posted price, it is a real bargain for couples or families, but you can definitely pay up to 50% more for a 1 bedroom unit in the building, or up to 100% more for a 2 bedroom unit in the building.
At the end of the day, we have been honest in our posting about the size of our unit. We have also taken great pride in remodelling it with high end finishes such as granite, bamboo and stainless steel, and equipping it with many freebies and conveniences (far beyond adequate) to offer something extra for everyone: couples, families and even babies. The pictures on the web say it all.
For most, you will love it, as we do, and appreciate it for the great value that it is. Thank you for taking the time to read our response, and have a wonderful vacation, wherever the wind blows you.
Aloha,
Lisa and Thomas
