What makes this house unique

We supply the boards and kayaks for free for our guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had some of the best surfing and fishing during our stay at Rancho Picaso. In one trip we caught a Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Rooster Fish, and Red Snapper for cooking . The next day we were lucky enough to find a school of dolphin feeding on yellowfin tuna so we circled them and pulled in several which we cut up and had right on the boat with wasabi and ginger. The captains know the waters and take you where you will catch fish! The surf was great and the owners local knowledge helped us read the tides and find waves every day when we weren't fishing. After a busy day it was nice to just chill in the hammocks on the beach and watch the sunsets. Being able to have a bonfire on the beach at night with friends under the incredible star filled sky was also a perk, because you are on 2.5 acres of private property. The locals are friendly and you feel very safe at this 3 bedroom home on the Osa Peninsula, unlike may of my surf trips to other areas in the past!

absolute paradise

  • 5 of 5

After being greeted by a welcoming smile from the proprietor, it's hard not to be in awe at your surroundings. The house is magnificent, all native hard wood and custom cement forming the shower and dual sinks. After settling in, it's a walk through a private rainforest trail to a virtually private beach. I've been going to Costa Rica for almost 40 years, and the osa for over 20 and this is by FAR my favorite place to stay. Already thinking about another trip!

Favourite home rental in Costa Rica!!

  • 5 of 5

This home is right in the middle of paradise. The pictures really don't depict the beauty of Carlo's property. We visited Corcovado for a day tour; however, we saw more wildlife right from our house such as howler monkeys, squirrel monkeys, two types of toucans, scarlet macaws, and countless other small birds. Just a five minute drive down the road towards Matapalo there were more morpho butterflies than anywhere else we had ever seen in Costa Rica. Our teenagers loved the surf boards and we all utilized the kayaks. We saw a sea turtle while out on the kayaks and could see where they came to shore to lay their eggs at night. Carlos cooked a delicious meal on our first night arriving and his price was very reasonable. We were very thankful that Carlos was nearby to answer all our questions and offer advice on nearby activities. On Friday night, Carlos suggested a nearby farmers market. There were various artisans with beautiful jewelry, masks, homemade soaps, homemade veggie burgers, ice-cream, jams and countless other items. The weather was very hot, so you need to be prepared for that. We loved how the home was open-air without windows; it was a very cool experience for the kids. This is the place to stay in the Osa!!

Paradise Found

  • 5 of 5

Best family vacation ever! We spent 10 days in paradise; still pinning for more. Our 7 year old daughter loved climbing up to the top story ("the lookout") and watching all the wildlife in the trees. Saving every penny so we can go back as soon as we can.

Thank you Carlos for sharing your amazing home with us.

Nature's paradise

  • 5 of 5

The first impression coming to Rancho Picasso is that the pictures don't do it justice! You have to come here to realize how beautiful this place is! We really had an incredible time. Carlos is a gracious host, always answering our questions and doing everything he can to make our stay easy, relaxing and fun. What can you say about a place this beautiful, surfing waves and walking on beaches that are practically deserted. We are sold on the Osa and we'll be back next year.

By the way, ask Carlos for the reference to charter a boat. excursions. John is his name out of Puerto Jiminez and he was great. We had a super good time surfing pavones, swimming with dolphins and fishing!

Rancho Picaso

  • 5 of 5

Our time spent at Rancho Picaso was everything we had hoped for, and more. The house is in a great location for any activity you can imagine. It is in close proximity to fishing charters, waterfalls, zip lines, and multiple ecotours. The surf is only a few minutes walk away and viewing wildlife is as simple as sitting on the back porch. We saw spider monkeys, squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, hawks, macaws, blue morphos, jesus lizards, crocs, and otters without ever leaving the property.

Carlos (home owner) was a great host and made our stay much better than it would have been had we not met him. He showed us the best spots to surf, let us hitch rides to the bar, and taught us some of the local cooking methods. The kitchen had all the neccessary utencils to cook your own meals, or you can eat at a soda in town. I recommend the bakery, pizza mailit, or Martina's.

All in all I have nothing but good things to say about the osa peninsula and our time spent at Rancho Picaso. I highly recommend staying here if your considering a trip to Costa Rica. Everyone we met was very kind and everyday was a new adventure.

peaceful with a private jungle & beach

  • 5 of 5

It has been a few years since I stayed here but Rancho Picasso is fantastic! The beach is endless and not commercial at all. You can surf, climb for coconuts, shell, hunt for crabs in the sand, and enjoy the location without leaving. The house is very comfortable with many amenities. The hammocks are strategically placed for the views and the breeze. Birding and tropical garden enthusiasts will find everything they are looking for. Plenty to do within one hour of Puerto Jimenez. Can't wait to go back
