Surrounded by fields of sunflowers and wheat in the rolling hills of the unspoiled Val di Chiana, this lovely and recently restored, classic Tuscan country house is located between Siena and Arezzo, three and a half kilometers from the charming medieval hilltop village of Lucignano.

Podere Dadino is a two-story, stone and brick farmhouse, typical of the area. It has been carefully restored, retaining the original elements of brick arches, beamed ceilings, and some interior walls of exposed stone and brick. The spacious and comfortable, main house totals approximately 3500 square feet.

You enter through a covered portico (porch, with outdoor table for eight to ten). Inside, three large arches divide the eat-in kitchen (with antique farmhouse table), the dining room with a table for eight to twelve, and the sunny living room with large open fireplace. On the other side of the kitchen are a bathroom with shower; a study with large antique wooden table/desk and a comfortable daybed; a TV room with access to the garden and pool area; and a laundry room with plenty of storage space.

A stone staircase leads upstairs to the high-ceilinged, airy, sitting room; four bedrooms (two bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, and two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed); two baths (one with shower, and one very large bathroom with shower and separate jacuzzi tub); and a large walk-in closet.

The house has plenty of space to be 'together' as a family or group of friends - whether at the pool, playing bocce, cooking delicious meals and enjoying them indoors or out, or chatting in the living room. The lay-out also allows for private spaces when you want some time alone - whether working (or dozing) in the study, having a quiet read in the upstairs sitting room, or finding a peaceful spot under the trees.

The attached guesthouse, approximately 430 square feet, has a separate entrance, two bedrooms (each with a queen-size bed), a small bath with shower, and a kitchen-sitting room.

The appliances are new. The kitchens are fully equipped and suitable for gourmet cooking. All mattresses, couches, and armchairs are new, comfortable, and of high quality. The bathrooms have modern fixtures. All windows and doors have mosquito screens. Otherwise, the house has been decorated and furnished in traditional Tuscan country-style, with characteristic colors, fabrics, and carefully chosen antique pieces for an authentic and comfortable Tuscan experience.

Although easily accessible and not remote (it is five kilometers from the A1 motorway exit), no other houses are visible from the house or grounds. A 400-meter (approximately 4000 feet) private, gravel road leads to the house, so the house is well back from the road behind a large field. The house sits on more than 1.75 acres (7000 square meters) of well-manicured private garden and lawns, offering several areas for dining al fresco, entertaining, or relaxing with a book and a glass of wine.

The grounds have been professionally landscaped with lawns, roses, lavender, flowers and shrubs of all sorts, pots of oleander and aromatic flowers set around mature fruit trees (plums, apricots, pears, apples, nuts, and figs), cypress, and shade trees. The garden includes a productive 50 square meter organic vegetable and herb garden with lettuces, heirloom tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and more. Adorable tiny geckoes sun themselves on the stones.

The covered front portico, with table and chairs for 10, is our guests' (and our) favorite place for breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening - watching the morning light or the sunset with the hills in the distance.

A wisteria-covered loggia, with traditional outdoor pizza / bread oven, dining table and chairs, is located on the side of the house near the pool, together with a charcoal and wood barbeque for outdoor cooking. The loggia is a perfect, shady spot for lunch! And making your own pizzas is a lot of fun.

The 6 by 12 meter (approximately 18 feet by 36 feet) swimming pool, with outdoor shower, gets full sun throughout the day. A stand of trees makes a shady spot at one end of the pool, next to the full size bocce ball court - for your evening bocce games. At the other end of the pool, a rustic pergola covered with jasmine and wisteria offers another space for outdoor dining or dozing.

The house is great for a group of friends to relax and catch up; for hosting an extended family or two; for celebrating a milestone birthday, a special anniversary, or a family event; or just as a place to experience Tuscany at its best.

The property is perfectly located for exploring southern Tuscany and Umbria, either by main road or country roads. The house is just over the 'border' dividing the provinces of Arezzo and Siena, giving you the two prettiest valleys in Tuscany - the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia (a UNESCO world heritage site). Charming towns, history, art, beautiful scenery, great restaurants, wine, and artisan foods are found in every direction.

Siena is 35 kilometers away, Arezzo 20 kilometers, Cortona 15 kilometers. Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza, the Colli Aretini and Colli Senesi wine roads (and wineries), the hot water mineral spas south of Siena, Etruscan archaeological sites, and many other places of interest, including events, festivals, local markets, and the designer outlets are easily reached for day trips. We provide a detailed House Book that offers suggestions and advice on restaurants, shopping, places to visit, things to do, and much more.

Please email with any questions, and check our website. We love the house and the area - and hope you will too.

About victoria belco

We (the owners) live in the USA, and rented houses in Tuscany for 25 years before finding, buying, and furnishing Podere Dadino in 2005 and 2006. In our years of renting other houses, we had many good experiences as well as some that were disappointing, so we knew what we wanted and what makes for a satisfying stay in the Tuscan countryside. We have furnished and decorated the house with care - and always keep it perfectly maintained. Our goal is that you feel at home when you come through the door, and that everything is in place to make your stay both relaxing and memorable. It is our vacation home too - and we are very demanding!

When we are here, we alternate between days of sightseeing and relaxation, swimming and playing bocce, with visits to our favorite restaurants and checking out recommendations of new ones. We cook too, using meats from the famous butchers in nearby Monte San Savino and the freshest vegetables and fruits in season. The traditional pizza oven is a big 'plus.'

We get lots of 'fun' reading done and spend lots of time by the pool. When we had the grounds landscaped, we knew we had to have a bocce court, as we have such warm memories of bocce tournaments with our children and friends in houses we rented in years past. In all, a stay here is the perfect antidote to the rest of the working year.

Our informative House Book describes local restaurants, shopping, events, and places to visit in this beautiful part of Italy. The house itself is stocked with cookbooks, guidebooks, novels and mysteries, dvds and books for all ages.

Why victoria belco chose Lucignano

The location is ideal: the house and grounds offer privacy, peace and quiet, yet easy distance to the most charming and classic Tuscan towns and sights. This is truly classic Tuscan 'postcard' country: hills and valleys; centuries old cypress trees; winding roads between fields of sunflowers, wheat, olives, and grapevines, leading to medieval and Renaissance villages and spectacular views. It is unspoiled and not flooded with tourists - it is still a place where Italians live and work the land.

It is also the perfect place for developing an idyllic routine of breakfast in the garden, then a drive to explore a nearby town of interest, see the historic and artistic sights and do a bit of shopping, ending just in time to enjoy a leisurely lunch at a terrific trattoria or more elaborate restaurant. Come home for a late afternoon swim, doze by the pool or in the shade, read the book you have wanted to get to, or practice your bocce ball game. Then, over a glass of local wine and some handcrafted cheeses, think about whether to cook dinner with the produce from the garden and what you purchased at the market, maybe make your own pizzas in the outdoor oven, grill some steaks, or to go out for another memorable meal. After dinner, relax some more, maybe with your book, a game of cards, or watching a dvd - or the fireflies - as you sip vin santo and plan your next day.

There is always somewhere new to find and explore: last summer we checked out Umbria and Lake Trasimeno. Our guests are always making great recommendations from their stays - guest have gone fishing, hiking, biking, to the spas, the outlets, archeology sites, and discovered restaurants and festivals we never knew about.

What makes this villa unique

We have a lifelong local man (1 kilometer away) who takes excellent care of the garden and grounds and is available for any repairs or problems. A very efficient young woman oversees the house cleaning and can also provide delicious Tuscan home cooking for your family or group. Guests have raved about her cooking! The swimming pool is professionally cleaned and serviced every week. And finally, our friendly and bilingual (English-Italian) property manager in nearby Florence will make sure all is well.

We answer questions promptly via email - or telephone if you would like to talk in person. We are attentive to any questions, needs, or concerns.

If you want to experience Tuscany and Tuscan food at its best, this is the spot - whether you want to cook at home or try a different restaurant every day. Our garden provides the herbs and vegetables (in season). Our kitchen has modern appliances, granite and stone counters, a big country table, and a comfortable rustic feel. In addition, there is both an outdoor grill (for grilling Tuscany's famous meats) and a traditional, outdoor brick oven for making your own pizzas, with plenty of space for outdoor dining.

Wonderful Tuscan Farmhouse

  • 5 of 5
This villa is beautiful and set in a wonderful garden with a large pool. We were 7 people and found ample space for everyone. We enjoyed preparing meals and cooking in the kitchen. We ate very meal outside on the patio and enjoyed evenings drinking wine. The house is set back some 400 meters from the road and is quiet. The flowers and garden are well tended and we even enjoyed a couple of ripe tomatoes.
We would happily recommend this home. Thank you Victoria.

Fantastic Tuscany Villa

  • 5 of 5
We travel around the world and can safely say this is among the best places we've ever stayed. Here are some of the elements that make the villa such a stand-out:
* Great local staff. We hired Lolita (recommended by the villa owner) to cook us pizzas one night on the outdoor pizza oven and a more traditional Tuscan meal on another night, which were both fantastic. On the first night I mentioned to Lolita that I like to bike and by 7 am the next morning there was a mountain bike sitting in the front yard that she had sent over from the local bike rental company (on a Sunday morning even). The landscaper was tending to the garden, pool and grounds every other day of our visit.
* Plenty of space inside and out. There are 4 large bedrooms in the main house and 2 more in the guest house, which was plenty of space for our party of 9. There are also 3 sitting rooms (all with Wi-Fi) which allowed the kids to hang out separate from the parents. There is also a large office, but fortunately we didn't need to use it during our stay.
* Spectacular secluded grounds. The property is quite secluded, at least one-third of a mile from the main road and it has a garden with fresh vegetables and at least 5-6 fruit trees with ripe plums and apricots. We picked fresh lettuce and onions each night for our salads. There is also a bocce ball space that we used during our stay.
* New and well furnished. We soon realized the house had a major overhaul recently, which was confirmed by the owner (in 2005 or 2006). The house had plenty of linens, towels and kitchen items. We were pleasantly surprised to see the house was equipped with screens, which we're told is not that common in Tuscany.
* Centrally located (an hour from Florence, 45 minutes to Sienna and 30 minutes to Arezzo). We made day trips to a number of the cities and villages in Tuscany. I also rode the mountain bike 10-20 miles most days during our stay because there is easy access to some of the less traveled roads (bordered by sunflower fields and vineyards, which was spectacular).
* Great local culture that's not "touristy". Unlike our visits to Venice and Rome during the trip (before and after the villa stay), the area near the villa has very much of a local feel. We were looking to get a feel for the local Tuscan culture which we definitely experienced (we came across very few tourists in the area).

The owner provided a very detailed house book and was very responsive to our questions.

Our wonderful 2 week stay in Tuscan country farm house

  • 5 of 5
We were 3 generations (ages 11 to 73), celerating our 50th. wedding annieversary. This was the perfect house, the perfect kitchen, and the perfect town. For a 2 wk. stay (or longer), it was very comfortable, with ample storage, space, bathrooms, supplies, everything you would find in your own home. Most times we were 3 cooks cooking and the large kitchen table allowed each of us to have enough space to do our preps. The garden supplied our salad fixins, veggies, and the local outdoor market supplimented the garden's zucchini flowers, which we battered and fried (recipe found in the kitchen's many, good cookbooks), and delicious! Piero took excellent care of the lovely grounds and pool. The pool was the favorite place for the grandkids, the pizza oven was the favorite place for the adults! We took advantage of the 3 outdoor eating areas, depending on the location of the sun and the meal. Our favorite was under the wisteria covered arbor near the pool. The farm house lacked for nothing. There were numerous movies, games (Grandma beat the kids at "Pick up sticks", pool toys, and places to relax, quiet places to read, congregate, or play bocce -a must, every night! If you are lucky to have a meal prepared for you by Lolita, you will enjoy a delicious meal. She is an excellent cook and teacher. All 3 generations were enthralled with her pizza dough making lesson, and devoured all 5 pizzas! Lucignano is a truly lovely hilltop town, and the perfect location for a home base to explore Toscano. The farm house was the best ever homebase -complete with screens!!! It is a very special place.

Beautiful home and location in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5
We recently spent a week at Podere Dadino. The home exceeded our expectations! Three couples shared the home and there was more than enough room for everyone. The house and grounds were immaculate and the photos on the web site don’t do the home justice. We spent our evenings either in front of the fireplace drinking wine or walking the property enjoying the view with a glass in hand. The home is set back from the main road and is secluded from other homes in the area. The actual location of the home is very convenient for visiting the local scenic towns and countryside of Tuscany.
The weather was still a bit cool on our visit and unfortunately we were not able to use the pool. The kitchen comes completely outfitted with everything you need to prepare meals and was a gathering place for all of us during the morning and evenings when we returned home. Lolita met us when we arrived and met with us just before we left. She is very nice and can answer almost any question you have about the house and local area.

I highly recommend this house to any family or group, and I hope to be able to return some day.

Podere Dadino

  • 5 of 5
Our recent stay at this beautiful villa was wonderful, it exceeded all our expectations. Our group of 4 couples took the guest house as well as the main house in order to spread out and were happy we did. We loved the great room with the huge fireplace, the well stocked kitchen and dining area, the grill and pizza oven with loggia where we spent a few nights cooking together and eating great steaks from the butcher shop and making our own pizzas. The location was perfect for visiting Florence, Arezzo, San Gimonango, horseback riding, wine tastings, Montepulciano, etc. While we did not use the pool, we enjoyed lunch by it under the pergola. The grounds were lovely and we had access to the garden for tomatoes, squash, herbs and eggplant (all that were left in October.) The owner was most helpful and quick to answer any questions. We would highly recommend Podere Dadino to anyone wanting to have a relaxing Tuscan holiday in a beautiful villa and setting.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your autumn stay, and that you got to make use the pizza oven and some late season produce from the garden, visited so many nearby towns and cities, and went horseback riding in the area.

A perfect week in Tuscany!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I just spent a week at this house and I can't say enough about this PERFECT property! We were floored when we drove up to the house...it is BEAUTIFUL! The house has everything you need: a big, impressively furnished kitchen, lots of sitting rooms, large, nicely furnished bedrooms with comfortable beds...but best of all, it has spacious outdoor eating areas, a garden with delicious produce, a pizza oven, a huge pool, landscaping that is breathtaking, and is way off the road. My husband called it "a geographic wonder" as it seems to be an hour away from everywhere you would want to go! We actually cancelled a few side trips just to stay at the house for an afternoon! The owners are great and easy to communicate with...they even provide a very detailed "House Book" that makes wonderful suggestions for places to go for food and wine, restaurants they recommend, local markets, and gives specific instructions on how to use all of the modern appliances. The house manager is also great and she and her mother fixed dinner for us on the night we arrived, which was delicious! I could go on and on, but will end by saying that I wish this was my house!
