Casa de los Amigos, a home away from home. A home that was put together 4 years ago with a lot of love by two closely knit families because we fell in love with San Miguel the first week we were there and now we want to share our enthusiasm with you. All the colors of Mexico you will find in our Mexican townhouse. Located in San Antonio, a ten minute walk to the center of San Miguel and a eight minute walk to the famous Instituto de Allende. This area is what we would call Soho/Tribeca type neighborhood. You will be among a varied group of people with lots to explore behind every door. Many little neighborhood restaurants where everyone goes for great guacamole and frozen margaritas and so much to explore. Every time we go there is something new to discover. And wait until you see the view from the rooftop garden. So magical!
As stated before, this house is very recent, and each time we are in town we cannot resist to add more artwork for our own pleasure. It is so cozy that you will want to come back, not just to visit San Miguel and all it has to offer but to see what we have been adding. This is really a neighborhood that is so close to all that there is to do in San Miguel. Great restaurants, theater, art, music, local markets, etc. ... and all this can be at your fingertips without paying the price for being in “Centro” with its noise and pollution.
Enter through our beautiful wrought iron door and walk under the trellis we have built that is covered with lovely local flowers, and enter into the main room of the house with its mango colored walls and a cantera fireplace which opens into our fully equipped kitchen where there is a door that leads into a small outdoor area with plants to enjoy while you are having a Mexican breakfast. Also there is a bathroom located on this floor with, of course, Mexican tiles and more colors of Mexico. Follow the great staircase up to the first floor, this is the office corner with a desk, broadband internet connection (ethernet cable and wireless)and a nice comfortable bench if someone wants to keep you company while you are sending emails home to all your friends telling them about San Miguel or checking online for San Miguel's events of the day. Also on this floor is the first bedroom, which sleeps two in a Queen bed with a fabulous newly carved out headboard, ceiling fan, Sony LCD flat screen TV (with cable access to international programs in addition to the regular Mexican programs) and bathroom with again Mexican tiles and a great shower and bath which is all tiled, plus a hammered brass sink. Then take the staircase up to the next level to the second bedroom. This can be either two twins or a King bed with more beautiful carved headboards, ceiling fan, another LCD flat screen TV (with also full cable access) and a full bathroom with a gorgeous ceramic sink. This room opens up onto a lovely terrace with an outdoor couch and beautiful plants. A perfect spot for having breakfast under a sunny sky. You'll get a lot of sun in the morning. Also on this level, there is a brand new washer dryer in a room right outside the bedroom. From the terrace you will take a circular staircase up to our rooftop garden where you can enjoy the view of the whole city with all different kinds of flowering plants and a table and chairs where you can relax and enjoy a nice cool drink.
Truly, it is hard to describe the magic of this city. You need to come down and experience it for yourself, and you will feel at home doing that from this wonderful townhouse in the heart of San Miguel, Colonia San Antonio.

Patrick Villers purchased this house in 2007
My friend and I really liked staying at the Casa. I wish we spent more time there to fully enjoyed this lovely house. We liked the fact that each of us had a private bedroom and a bathroom. The terrace is a delight, especially at night.
The location was convenient, it was quiet at night, and in the morning we loved smelling freshly-baked bread from the bakery next door.
It comes with nice beds, plenty of towels, well-equipped kitchen.
I would definitely stay there again!! Wine that Patrick left for us was a very nice touch and made us feel very welcomed - Thank you and hope to visit again!
We just returned from SMA last week after a wonderful three weeks at Casa De Los Amigos. Miguel met us at the door when we arrived and Isabel was a wonderful and friendly housekeeper. The casa was comfortable and as shown in the pictures except that the rooftop view was more spectacular with front row seats to the Saturday night fireworks over the Paroquia or the sunset facing in the opposite direction. The terrace also had partial shade so I was able to read and enjoy my cerveza while my wife lounged in the bright sun. Just for that Mexican touch, there was a rooster in the area that was somewhat time challenged and apparently never got the memo about crowing only at the break of day.
The location was excellent. There’s a bakery right next door with fresh Italian style buns for 2 pesos, a bodega across the street for cold beer, and a nice little seafood restaurant (Mariscolandia) just a couple of blocks away. The food is quite good and the staff speak English. Just down the road, at Pila Seca and Zacateros, we discovered Casa Payo which has a very romantic setting and good Mexican/western food.
Obviously, fresh food was a concern and we found the Mercado farmers market near Calle San Pedro and San Rafael. Otherwise, the Bonanza at 34 Mesones carried a lot of the ex-pat type foods. We bought BBQ chicken a couple of times on San Pedro and Indio Triste. The walk to the Jardin was an easy 10 – 15 minute walk away where the night life was great and a safe walk home even at midnight.
All in all, loved the Casa and SMA in general, so thank you Patrick, Isabel and Miguel for making our stay so great. Next year we’re coming back for at least a month.
My husband and I spent two weeks in San Miguel at this well-appointed home while we took a 2-week Spanish immersion class. The location worked out very well for us since it was a nice walk to our school and the center part of town and we could explore different routes each day. The home is colorfully decorated with delightful art and the king size bed in the master bedroom very comfortable. There is a fantastic view of the city skyline from the bedroom with a roof patio from which to view the town. The owners were extremely helpful in suggesting a driver from the airport and making sure that we had all the information we needed to enjoy our stay. Our clothes were washed and hung up twice a week and the house kept sparkling clean by Isabel the housekeeper freeing up our time to enjoy the town. We were fortunate to be there on December 6 when the entire town turned out for the lighting of the Christmas tree ceremony at the Jardin with music and people watching. I highly recommend dinner out at Taco Don Felix, about a 5 minute taxi ride from the house. It is set in the beautiful home of Don Felix, the food was delicious, and the family warm and inviting.
My boyfriend and I decided to stay for a week in San Miguel to unwind after a friend's wedding in Mexico City and we are so glad we did! It was our first time in the "real" Mexico (i.e. not Cancun) and we were both blown away.
The house is lovely with the vibrant colors and decor of Mexico; it's even more beautiful than the photos, especially the bathrooms. As mentioned in other reviews, Miguel met us to show us the house. There is a nice fresh food/flea market a few blocks away, a bodega a few yards up the street for all the basics, and a bakery a couple of doors down where you can buy wonderful baked goods in the morning.
Even though we were there only one week, it felt like home, waking up and following our noses over to the bakery and coming back to enjoy a breakfast on the terrace outside the upper bedroom and at the end of the day having a nightcap on the rooftop patio with the amazing view of the town. It makes such a difference staying in a beautiful and comfortable home, instead of a hotel. The house is spotless (gracias, Isabel!) with all the modern amenities you could want and just a short walk to downtown. Although there were just two of us, having the two bedrooms (and full bathrooms) on different floors would made it perfect for sharing with another couple.
As for the town of San Miguel itself, we can't say enough nice things. Our limited Spanish didn't prevent our great pleasure in exploring and enjoying the sights, sounds and tastes of the town. We highly recommend the tour that starts at the Jardin, as it helped us get oriented and learn about the history of the town. There is a binder in the livingroom of the house filled with many fantastic recommendations for where visit and eat. We stayed in early July and besides a few short afternoon or overnight showers, the weather was great.
It was an amazing experience and San Miguel has so much to offer that we hope to stay in the Casa de Los Amigos again.
My husband and I stayed at this beautiful property for about two weeks and would definitely consider staying here again. When we arrived, we met Isabel, the housekeeper here, who is a very special woman and very helpful. We also found that the owners had stocked the refrigerator with eggs, bread, milk and butter so we could have a meal before we were able to go shopping. We ate many of our dinners in the house. The kitchen is well set up for dining in. In the evenings, we loved to sit near the fire, listen to music, and read or play a game. There are three floors. We chose the bedroom on the top floor as it was larger and had a nice terrace where we could sit outside and enjoy the view and the sun in the morning and shade later on. When there was any question for the owners, they answered immediately.
The walk into the central part of town was an easy one, and the casa was close to the Institute Allende and some of the restaurants where we had excellent meals, such as Hecho in Mexico. There is so much going on in town at all times. One day we took the House and Garden tour from the Biblioteca(library), later after a wonderful lunch, we tried to catch a concert given by a Russian pianist, and later saw an amazing jazz concert at the Peralta theater. If you love life and beautiful things, you will love San Miguel.
We were greeted upon our late evening arrival with food in the fridge for breakfast and a beutiful bouquet of flowers on the table. It only got better as we settled in and found the house to be perfect for our stay in San Miguel. The house is well situated in a nice neighborhood and we were within easy walking distance from el centro, Instituto Allende, shops and restaurants along Av. San Antonio, etc. Casa de los Amigos was a great place from which to enjoy the many pleasures and surprises of San Miguel de Allende. We look forward to a return visit.
My husband and I stayed here with another couple and it was a perfect house to share. Both bedrooms are large and have a balcony and private bath, and there is a half bath downstairs. The house is furnished very comfortably and beautifully. Fully equipped. It is an EASY walk to the Jardin, some very unhilly routes. 12 minutes if you walk at a brisk pace (I had to, on one occasion). The cleaning woman is a delight (she comes twice a week), and Miguel, the "concierge", is also lovely and very responsive. He waited for our arrival though we were delayed and arrived late. There is also a bakery next door that will sell to individuals, so you wake up to the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread and you can stroll in and buy your rolls for breakfast. A very charming house, in a very charming town - I would highly recommend it.
