A HOME AWAY FROM HOME NEAR CENTRO AND INSTITUTO DE ALLENDE

San Miguel de Allende House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Casa de los Amigos, a home away from home. A home that was put together 4 years ago with a lot of love by two closely knit families because we fell in love with San Miguel the first week we were there and now we want to share our enthusiasm with you. All the colors of Mexico you will find in our Mexican townhouse. Located in San Antonio, a ten minute walk to the center of San Miguel and a eight minute walk to the famous Instituto de Allende. This area is what we would call Soho/Tribeca type neighborhood. You will be among a varied group of people with lots to explore behind every door. Many little neighborhood restaurants where everyone goes for great guacamole and frozen margaritas and so much to explore. Every time we go there is something new to discover. And wait until you see the view from the rooftop garden. So magical!

As stated before, this house is very recent, and each time we are in town we cannot resist to add more artwork for our own pleasure. It is so cozy that you will want to come back, not just to visit San Miguel and all it has to offer but to see what we have been adding. This is really a neighborhood that is so close to all that there is to do in San Miguel. Great restaurants, theater, art, music, local markets, etc. ... and all this can be at your fingertips without paying the price for being in “Centro” with its noise and pollution.

Enter through our beautiful wrought iron door and walk under the trellis we have built that is covered with lovely local flowers, and enter into the main room of the house with its mango colored walls and a cantera fireplace which opens into our fully equipped kitchen where there is a door that leads into a small outdoor area with plants to enjoy while you are having a Mexican breakfast. Also there is a bathroom located on this floor with, of course, Mexican tiles and more colors of Mexico. Follow the great staircase up to the first floor, this is the office corner with a desk, broadband internet connection (ethernet cable and wireless)and a nice comfortable bench if someone wants to keep you company while you are sending emails home to all your friends telling them about San Miguel or checking online for San Miguel's events of the day. Also on this floor is the first bedroom, which sleeps two in a Queen bed with a fabulous newly carved out headboard, ceiling fan, Sony LCD flat screen TV (with cable access to international programs in addition to the regular Mexican programs) and bathroom with again Mexican tiles and a great shower and bath which is all tiled, plus a hammered brass sink. Then take the staircase up to the next level to the second bedroom. This can be either two twins or a King bed with more beautiful carved headboards, ceiling fan, another LCD flat screen TV (with also full cable access) and a full bathroom with a gorgeous ceramic sink. This room opens up onto a lovely terrace with an outdoor couch and beautiful plants. A perfect spot for having breakfast under a sunny sky. You'll get a lot of sun in the morning. Also on this level, there is a brand new washer dryer in a room right outside the bedroom. From the terrace you will take a circular staircase up to our rooftop garden where you can enjoy the view of the whole city with all different kinds of flowering plants and a table and chairs where you can relax and enjoy a nice cool drink.

Truly, it is hard to describe the magic of this city. You need to come down and experience it for yourself, and you will feel at home doing that from this wonderful townhouse in the heart of San Miguel, Colonia San Antonio.

Guestbook comments from the owner
My friend and I really liked staying at the Casa. I wish we spent more time there to fully enjoyed this lovely house. We liked the fact that each of us had a private bedroom and a bathroom. The terrace is a delight, especially at night.

The location was convenient, it was quiet at night, and in the morning we loved smelling freshly-baked bread from the bakery next door.

It comes with nice beds, plenty of towels, well-equipped kitchen.

I would definitely stay there again!! Wine that Patrick left for us was a very nice touch and made us feel very welcomed - Thank you and hope to visit again!

A WARM, FRIENDLY HOME

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at this beautiful property for about two weeks and would definitely consider staying here again. When we arrived, we met Isabel, the housekeeper here, who is a very special woman and very helpful. We also found that the owners had stocked the refrigerator with eggs, bread, milk and butter so we could have a meal before we were able to go shopping. We ate many of our dinners in the house. The kitchen is well set up for dining in. In the evenings, we loved to sit near the fire, listen to music, and read or play a game. There are three floors. We chose the bedroom on the top floor as it was larger and had a nice terrace where we could sit outside and enjoy the view and the sun in the morning and shade later on. When there was any question for the owners, they answered immediately.
The walk into the central part of town was an easy one, and the casa was close to the Institute Allende and some of the restaurants where we had excellent meals, such as Hecho in Mexico. There is so much going on in town at all times. One day we took the House and Garden tour from the Biblioteca(library), later after a wonderful lunch, we tried to catch a concert given by a Russian pianist, and later saw an amazing jazz concert at the Peralta theater. If you love life and beautiful things, you will love San Miguel.

A GREAT PLACE...WE WILL RETURN.

  • 5 of 5
We were greeted upon our late evening arrival with food in the fridge for breakfast and a beutiful bouquet of flowers on the table. It only got better as we settled in and found the house to be perfect for our stay in San Miguel. The house is well situated in a nice neighborhood and we were within easy walking distance from el centro, Instituto Allende, shops and restaurants along Av. San Antonio, etc. Casa de los Amigos was a great place from which to enjoy the many pleasures and surprises of San Miguel de Allende. We look forward to a return visit.

Owner's Response: We certainly love to hear these kind of comments from our guests. My wife and I have worked for many years for a French Hotel and Resort Company and what we like to hear is when our guests feel that they are welcome when they arrive to our home. We are always looking for new ideas to improve the comfort of our guests.

LOVELY HOUSE, EASY WALK TO JARDIN

  • 4 of 5
My husband and I stayed here with another couple and it was a perfect house to share. Both bedrooms are large and have a balcony and private bath, and there is a half bath downstairs. The house is furnished very comfortably and beautifully. Fully equipped. It is an EASY walk to the Jardin, some very unhilly routes. 12 minutes if you walk at a brisk pace (I had to, on one occasion). The cleaning woman is a delight (she comes twice a week), and Miguel, the "concierge", is also lovely and very responsive. He waited for our arrival though we were delayed and arrived late. There is also a bakery next door that will sell to individuals, so you wake up to the wonderful smell of fresh baked bread and you can stroll in and buy your rolls for breakfast. A very charming house, in a very charming town - I would highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: We've tried to decorate our house with good taste and care and have capitalized on our Guests' comments over time to make it really cozy, like at home. Thank you Marjorie for your kind words.

SAN MIGUEL CASA

  • 4 of 5
The house was perfect! 4 of us stayed (2 couples). The bedrooms were on the 2nd and 3rd floors, each with private bath. Which afforded great privacy. The house is very well appointed with every convenience you would want. The local art and decor made it feel very San Miguelly. Located on a quite street within a very short walk to the start of "Ancha de San Antonio". a 12 minute walk to the Jardin.

An added bonus was the bakery next door. Waking up every morning to the smell of fresh baked bread and pastry...It's a good thing San Miguel is a "walking city"! Else we all would have gained a few extra pounds.

I highly recommend the Casa. It will be the first place we contact on our next visit.

I rated it 4 stars, because I never give a 5.

Regards, Roger

FABULOUSLY RELAXING CASA

  • 5 of 5
Setting up our rental with Patrick was incredibly easy as he replied quickly to all of our emails and Casa de Los Amigos was everything the listing promised! The Mexican decor was perfect as it allowed us to feel like locals for a bit, starting with the beautiful entryway from the street and continuing through the tiled floors, ceramic dishes, and artwork on the walls. We particularly appreciated the purified water faucet, the wireless internet, and the wonderful rooftop terrace. Isabel, the housekeeper, was beyond attentive and Miguel, the house manager, even came out on Sunday morning when we ran out of gas for the stove and hot water. Upon our arrival, we had arranged an airport pick-up from Martin (recommended by Patrick). This made getting to the casa incredibly easy and Martin shared many stories (in English) en route. (We opted to take buses back to BJX at the end of our stay, which was less expensive, but certainly not as convenient.)

The casa is an easy uphill walk to the center of town, but also close to local markets and a short walk to the main bus station. We had no trouble taking a bus to Dolores Hidalgo for the day and no trouble getting a local bus to the hot springs another day. (Escondido Place was well worth the trip for a day of complete relaxation!) Taxis were indeed plentiful and we wisely took a taxi to and from the botanical gardens one evening to watch the white throated swifts nesting in the cliffs followed by an amazing sunset over San Miguel. We recommend the walking tour from El Jardin as a good introduction to the town. Every restaurant we tried was great, from little roadside stands to family run places to larger establishments. We also cooked at the casa a fair amount using groceries picked up along our walk home. Every day, it seemed, we explored a different part of San Miguel just by walking in a new direction. We wish we spoke more Spanish, but were able to manage just fine in English.

We would absolutely recommend San Miguel and Casa de Los Amigos to anyone looking for a relaxing cultural experience. Although a week was plenty of time to see some sights, wander the streets, and simply spend time with friends, we would have loved to stay longer.

Owner's Response: My wife and I spent 15 years in the hotel/resort industry and there is nothing more rewarding than Maureen's comments about our Casa, and the special attention we like to show to our Guests. Also a big thanks to our local team who takes such a good care of our home when we are not there.

A LOVELY HOME AWAY FROM HOME.

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I spent two lovely weeks at Casa de Los Amigos in January 2012, This lovely house has a very well equipped kitchen, two very nice size bedrooms with full baths on two separate floors which provides plenty of privacy, in addition there is third half bath on the ground floor. In addition to the very comfortable beds and deliciously soft linens and towels the hosts also provided laundry facilities in the house. Twice a week, Isabel came to tidy up and clean the house and even did our laundry for us.
During the hot afternoons, we lounged upstairs on the shaded roof top terrace. We had no difficulty walking to the town center, to restaurants, stores and to the lovely Juarez park, one of our favorite spots in SMD. We can recommend Casa de Los Amigos as a very nice home away from home. We have rented homes in many places in Mexico and in Europe and the owners of the Casa de Los Amigos are most generous hosts.
