Idyllic ocean-front Gloucester cottage

Bedrooms 2
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 90 nights

Gloucester and Annisquam Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6-7

**Enjoy the beautiful New England autumn colors from your ocean-front deck. Now available for October stays of 3 nights or longer!

Endless Summer is a beautiful ocean-front cottage in a quiet Lanesville neighborhood. The beach is large, flat rocks typical of the Northern New England coast. Endless Summer is a relaxing getaway located at the end of a gravel road. Plenty of large, picture windows: front-seat views of sunsets over Ipswich Bay, preeminent perspective on in-rolling thunder clouds, clear-day views along New England Coast from Northern Massachusetts to Southern Maine. Spacious wrap-around deck. Two bedrooms, each with comfortable queen beds and attached bath. Downstairs has a large open area that can be curtained off for some privacy when used as a sleeping area, and has a new full day bed and twin trundle. Washer/dryer, fireplace and gas heat. Cozy living room furniture, wall-mounted flat screen TV with cable, Netflix, and Pandora for music. Well-stocked kitchen with dishwasher. High-speed wireless internet and phone (US only) included. Due to the spiral staircase and raised deck, care should be taken to supervise young children, and the downstairs may not be accessible for elderly or disabled individuals.

The Waterfront- Swimming.: The shoreline is made up of large flat rocks. It's good for swimming, especially at mid-tide or higher. The rocky shore makes for great snorkeling- you might even see lobsters! On the sunset waterfront photo, the rock the farthest to the right curves in a backwards c-shape creating what we call 'the bathtub'. You can sort of see it in the picture-- the 'basin' of water just to the left of that rock. That's our favorite place to swim-- you can sit in it when the tide is coming in or out and the basin fills or empties slowly with water. The water here tends to be fairly calm, except on stormy or very windy days, when the waves can get big.

The Waterfront-: At low tide it's fun to explore the shoreline-- tidepools, baby crabs, periwinkle snails, etc. We also enjoy walking along the shore jumping from rock to rock (on the dry parts!!) Also, if sand is what you're looking for, there is a small sand beach just one mile from Endless Summer. The big sandy beaches are about 5 miles.

Peaceful and Picture Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for an as advertised, PEACEFUL, clean, comfortable perfect location for exploring the area (including an easy one hour train ride into Boston) this is the place.

My wife and I spent a week here and wished we had booked more! The property sits right on the water and the sounds of the waves from the deck and the views from inside the house are wonderful. We found the beds to be comfortable and enjoyed the higher quality sheets and towels provided. Having a washer and dryer was great. It allowed us to pack less. It is the perfect location to visit the surrounding area. Our favorite was Marblehead. It was very easy to catch the train to Boston (if you are a Seniors, as we are, do not forget to mention it when buying your train ticket. Seniors are 1/2 off) and the T connections from the North Station easily connected you to any place in Boston. We have used VRBO/Homeaway over 45 times and would place this property near the top.

Relaxing and peaceful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had the best vacation at this cottage! Our favorite part was the amazing sunsets over the water that can be viewed from the deck of the house or down on the beach. The cottage has a semi-private beach (shared with a few neighbors, whom were mostly family members of the owners and extremely friendly) that is perfect for kids to play on. Our young kids had a blast playing in the tidal pools and playing on the "pebble beach." Beware that water shoes are needed for the pebble beach and that the big rocks get slippery after high tide. We also took our kids to nearby sand beaches during our stay. Everyone enjoyed combing the pebble beach for seaglass and we came home with a large collection.

The home is very well equipped with all the kitchen items you could need and we appreciated that common condiments and soaps and such were also well stocked. It was also great to not have to worry about brining linens with us.

The home is perfectly located with the Lanesville shops within a mile and Rockport restuarants and shops within a 10-15 minute drive.

I would absolutly stay here again and recommend it to anyone. We hope to stay again sometime soon!

There are a few little cons I will point out, none of which would prevent me from returning. First, it is a shame to have such a perfect deck for viewing sunsets and NO patio furniture! There are only uncomfortable benches and 2 cheap plastic hard chairs. That deck is crying out for comfy furniture! Also, as a parent of a 2 year old, the deck made me extremely nervous as there is a large gap (that a child could easily fit through) in the deck railing. There is a bench running along the railing, so my child liked to put her head through the gap in the railing since it was perfect height for her when she sat on the bench. Obviously, a vigiliant parent is necessary on a deck anyway, but beware if you have little ones. And lastly, the cottage has a space saving spiral staircase, which is also not very kid friendly. It's hard for even adults to navigate. My parents stayed in the lower floor bedroom and really disliked having to use the spiral staircase everyday.

We had a fantastic time and hope to come again one day!

A Uniquely Wonderful New England Experience

  • 5 of 5

This cottage provided the perfect base for an amazing family vacation. It was exactly what we needed. The cottage itself is very clean and homey, and the ocean-side setting is breathtakingly gorgeous. The landscaping around the cottage made us feel like we were completely surrounded in beauty. The ocean was warm enough for us to swim in everyday during our stay, and our children (6 yrs and 2 yrs) were kept very busy playing on the amazing outcropping of rocks just beyond the cottage. They were jumping and playing in the tidepools contentedly, making up games like "mermaid school" and "fishing" for hours each day. The weather was incredible, and we spent some time in Rockport shopping (I had a particularly wonderful experience in Thistle Hill and Milk & Honey) and exploring the trails at nearby Halibut Point State Park. The views at Halibut Point are also well worth the visit! We also loved visiting the art gallery just across the road in Lanesville, and the walk from the cottage to Folly Cove was beautiful. We really could have just stayed at the cottage the entire time, because it was just so wonderful to be on the rocks and swimming in the ocean. We just can't thank you enough, Becky and Patrick! This was truly a vacation that will stay with us for a long time. We hope to be back again soon!

Extraordinarily beautiful, peaceful, private

  • 5 of 5

This home is a precious and rare retreat, directly on the water. Quiet, private, and within walking distance to both quaint downtown Lanesville in one direction and Halibut Point State Park in the other.

Watch a local lobster fisherman from your dining room table, and walk up to street to enjoy the fresh catch.

Outstanding customer service by owners and local care-taker, and welcoming neighbors during the off-season.

All amenities, including phone, internet and tv make for a very reasonable price for an off-season rental.

The house is easy to care for, although furnishings are beautiful and tasteful. Because the cove is protected, storms blow across the water but not towards the home.

The small private shoreline is a haven for beach glass, small sea shells, bird watching, and ocean gazing. Popular Folly Cove scuba diving site also nearby.

Easy access to both Rockport and Gloucester, with bus service available.

Trash and recycle is picked up by the city, making a longer stay easy and convenient.

The house can serve as a hub for entertaining family and friends in your own ocean-side cook-out, or as a quiet peace-fillled contemplative retreat.

With a master bed and bath on each floor, there is plenty of privacy for two couples, or two adults, with extra bed space for and floor space for more. Part of the house easily functions as a home office, with a desk and enough extra space to unpack some books. Private parking for 2 cars, and extra shed for a bike or two.

The Lanesville section of Gloucester offers the rare and extraordinary combination of reasonable price, quietude, and direct access to the ocean, with easy access to attractions. With the bus availability, an out-of-towner could even function without a car, however, Cape Ann is the courteous driving capital of the world.

During the winter months, swimmers can count on the local YMCA, and join in the New Year's Day Plunge. The live music scene in Gloucester is a national treasure, including Celtic, Folk, and more. Strong local arts and healing communities (massage, Buddhist meditation, etc.), and local hospital all contribute to a sense of safety, support, and community for an extended off-season visitor.

One of the most beautiful cottages ever

  • 5 of 5

We had a most woderful stay at this beautiful location! What impressed us most is that you can watch the sunsets from the great porch over the sea. Swimming on the little private beach is great, there are big rocks, and even our little kids jumped into the sea and enjoyed this combination of warm water and hot rocks in the sun.

The cottage is in good comdition, and it is equipped with really everything you need.

The landlady is wonderful, she organized everything in such a good way, we really felt at home right away!

And the neighbors are great, we and our kids enjoyed the presence of Carolin.

All in all - clearly a place we want to return to, hopefully sooner than later!

Very relaxing

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Endless summer was very relaxing. The house is perfect for a family with a teen. My son had his own space downstairs, which also has a walk way out to the water. The house is very clean and comfortable. There is a sweet coffee shop with in walking distance, about a mile away, as well as a short drive to all the Art galleries in Rockport. I am an Art teacher and being surrounded by so many artists was inspiring.

The sunsets were spectacular!

The ceiling fans kept the house cool. Our stay began at the end of the big heat wave and the cottage was a nice relief from the heat.

The rock area is perfect for fishing and watching the Lobster boats in the early morning or sitting and taking in the sun. The water is perfect for swimming.

The area was very quiet and all the surrounding neighbors were so nice and friendly. We had a wonderful stay and plan on returning.

Gloucester, founded in 1623, is America's oldest seaport. It is the quintessential New England town. Among the many maritime activities offered by Gloucester are: world class whale-watching expeditions, lighthouse tours, stunning destination beaches, the Gloucester Schooner Adventure, the Cape Ann Historical Museum, fishing and boating opportunities in abundance, excellent seafood restaurants, and a lively nightlife rich with live music and theatre. Lanesville, the particular North-Gloucester neighborhood in which our cottage sits, is known for its freshwater granite quarries, its sunsets over Ipswich Bay, and its remarkable immunity to the unpleasant clutter of industrialization.

Rockport is a historical and thriving artist colony. Its local restaurants and art galleries are visited by thousands of tourists each year. Our cottage is only 1 mile from Rockport’s Halibut Point State Park, and 3 miles from its famous Bearskin Neck.

We are less than 1 hour from Boston by car.
