Further details for this vacation cabin rental in Julian, California

Dining: We are a 'bed but get your own damn breakfast' establishment but we encourage you to try our outdoor pizza oven. We'll provide you with our own homemade pizza dough, you bring whatever toppings you desire and we'll show you how to make the first one. You won't believe how good they taste.....and dining under the stars in front of a warm fire on a clear night is beyond words. We suggest making a few extras for the next day. If pizza's not your thing, there are several good restaurants in Alpine, Pine Valley or the Viejas Casino and Outlet which has a good buffet.

Pet Friendly: Horses and dogs are welcome, but the fencing is not cat proof. In addition to the fenced patio, the Haylapa is sited in a fenced 2 1/2 acre compound of oaks, boulders and trails and is secure for your pets to play and explore. If you want to take a long hike with your dog, there is a trailhead nearby that accesses a expansive wilderness area that has no leash requirements. It is also a great place to horseback ride. If you want to bring your horses, we have corrals, a large pasture area (.25 acre) under the oaks for them to run and a place to park your trailer. We do not have hook-ups but if you are staying in the Haylapa and would like to have friends with rigs join you, they may park down by the corrals for an additional fee.

Even without dogs or horses, this was one of the most enchanting abodes I've had the pleasure to
enjoy. It seems amazing that this stark and sere landscape can exist just a stone's throw from the
lush coast.

Hiking back up behind the property was rewarded with breathtaking vistas and amazing flora.
Advise that you don't wear shorts, as I did... ouch! Even the thorns have thorns here.

As a woodworker myself, I was astounded by all the charming handmade touches that abound in the
house and on the property, Photos on the web site do not do it justice. Clearly it was a labor of
love, and reflects a refined sense of the use of natural materials that imbue a sense of peace and
harmony. The house stands as a testament to the possibilities of sustainable architecture.

Haylapa changed what had been loosely planned as a coastal road trip. Drawn to the beauty of the
desert, we continued on to the Salton Sea, and on up through Joshua Tree National Park, before
looping back through the mountains to the sea.

Beautiful, beautiful place. Thank you so much...

Avra and Janna

I just spent a relaxing 2 nights at the Haylapa House, and I couldn't have asked for anything more! The gorgeous natural beauty of the surroundings, the amazing house itself, the delicious pizza, the relaxing patio, the endless array of hiking trails, and the 2 1/2 acres for my dogs to run around, I never felt the need to leave the property for anything the entire time I was there! Lane and Laurie were the perfect hosts!

This was the perfect solo retreat for a single young woman, like myself, and my 2 dogs loved having free roaming time and the great dog bed inside the house!

I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick getaway to relax and forget the world for a couple days, and I'm already looking forward to my next stay.

Our stay at the Haylapa was one of the most relaxing and memorable vacations we've ever had. The challenging trails and panoramic views were a wonderful highlight of our trip. Our dogs were in heaven chasing little lizards around the boulders and charging up and down the mountain all day. We spent a nice day at Lake Cuyamaca (right up the road) fishing for trout, bass and bluegill and again, enjoying the mountain scenery. Laurie and Lane were perfect hosts and the unique, handmade furnishings were as comfy as they were beautiful; Can't wait to visit again in the fall!
